Top Ten Mario Party Games You'd Most Like to Rate

Mario Party is one of the more known spin-off franchises from Super Mario, but it's still far behind in discussions compared to its competition Mario Kart. So, let's look at Mario Party games, and the ten ones you'd like to rate.
The Top Ten
1 Mario Party 9

10/10 = Masterpiece

Everything about this game is just amazing. The fresh start this game delivered in my opinion was full of colour and confetti. The new party mode is a breath of fresh air after nine previous games having all used the same formula, and it delivers itself its own little quirks and fun moments. It's not as great for a long 2 hours+ evening with friends, but the shorter length of the boards make it more efficient if you can't hang out too long with friends, or if you're a busy person (like me).
Moreover, even if you don't like the car formula, you can always check out the many minigame mode which in my opinion, are the best this series has to offer! Stuff like Garden Battle, Choice Challenge and High Rollers are just amazingly original and it's hard to not enjoy them, as they're more than just "win minigames to get points". The minigames are also some of the best the series has to offer. Stuff like Peak Precision, Pit or Platter, Pizza Me Mario, Growing Up, ...more

While a fresh take on the Mario Party formula for the most part the game just isn't that good, 7/10.

2 Mario Party 7

9/10 Amazing

Mario Party 7 is the gold standard for Classic Mario Party as it has about everything that would make for an amazing board game with amazing gimmicks and unique traits. Up until 6 at least, Mario Party was just like any other generic board game with the only unique substance being minigames. Like, there's barely anything to brag about between 1-5, but 6 throw boredom out of the window and welcomed unique board rules and gimmicks, and 7 took those gimmicks as well but refined them (although removing day/night at the cost).
The game's theme is around the world, seeing as each board is based on a real world location. For example, Padoga Peak = China, Pyramid Park = Egypt, Windmillville = Netherlands, etc. A lot of the board gimmicks from 6 is brought over as well, such as star stealing, but new to the game is investing money in windmills to get stars (something that was brought over to 8 and further improved). On top of that, there's 8 player mode, which is cool ...more

3 Mario Party: Island Tour

9/10 Amazing

I've always had the softest spot for this particular Mario Party game. What Mario Party DS is to some fans, Island Tour is to me. Even though I personally must admit 9 is an overall better game, both critically and personally, I still do have some of my finest Mario Party memories with this game.
The boards are a very unique part of this game, as each of them has a different type of gameplay and gimmicks. You have one that combines the car and seperate paths, another that require cards to move forward, and another where you must be last to win. This makes the game stand out very well from the rest of the games. The rest of the games follows this formula: "Simple, but not stupid". The minigames, story mode aren't the stronngest point in the mario party series, but they aren't really bad either, as they work just fine. I guess a complaint I could have with the game though is that despite all interesting boards, none play like a classic game. But it's a minor price ...more

4 Mario Party 6

9/10 = Amazing?

I have actually only played nine Mario Party games in total, so I needed to have a filler item I can somewhat judge, and that had to be 6. I'm planning on getting it, but for now it hypothetically stays at #4 based from a couple of walkthroughs on youtube, and from what I've seen, it's basically a slightly weaker version of 7, and you know how much I love 7.
The main gimmick is of course day/night, as every third turn, it becomes day or night, which means new routes open up, significantly changing the gameplay. If that wasn't enough, each board FINALLY has their own rules for getting a star, instead of just "find it and pay 20 coins". While there are some boards that use that rule, there's one that requires you to steal stars from other players bribing a dog a few coins and then rolling the dice, hoping to reach that player. Another one has a set star space that never changes, but the price of it changes every time someone buys it, plus you can buy as many as ...more

5 Mario Party 8

8/10 = Great

This was my first classic Mario Party game, having gotten it roughly around the same time as 9, so if you call me a biased Car fanboy who only grew up with 9, know that you're dead wrong. Anyways, Mario Party 8 was clearly the game when the Mario Party series was starting to run out of ideas, evidently by the boards being weaker versions of stuff we've already seen before, and the overexposure of motion controls. However, the good stuff was freakin' amazing here. The minigames are my favourite in the entire series, the good boards are really fun, and the music is so too. The roster is the best the series has seen, only beaten by Super. Other than that there's not much to say about the game though, other than I have huge nostalgia for it.

Pretty bland and not much to say it really felt like they ran out of ideas for this installment 6/10.

6 Mario Party: Star Rush

9/10 Amazing

A lot of people say that Mario Party: Star Rush is a better game overall than Mario Party: Island Tour. Well, there's a lot of reasoning behind it, as it revamped the main formula yet again to resemble the classic one, but with huge improvements, as now we all move at once, plus the maps are much more free, as you can walk literally anywhere now, instead of following linear paths. This new mode is called Toad Scramble, and you must walk around the board, recruit allies to get more dice blocks, and defeat boss battles to earn stars. And yes, this is miles better than the original formula (come at me).

However, there are a number of flaws this game posseses though. While the boards are really open-world and fun to play on..., they lack any substance that makes them interesting. No joke, they're all divided just into five "worlds", and each world contains three similar worlds with a similar theme. It works fine, but it also makes the worlds lack any point of ...more

7 Mario Party DS

7/10 = Good
The only Mario Party game with the classic formula on a handheld and for this reason this game gets a lot of love, and it happens to be the childhood favourite of many people. I got it a lot later ironically, in my early teens just last year, and my opinion on it has been pretty consistent in that I like the game, but not too much.
The game itself is focused on one theme: big house, and this is obvious when you look at the boards and minigames. But while the boards are pretty interesting and of good size, the minigames are where it gets underwhelming. While there are a crazy lot of them, most of them are seriously just stuff we've seen before but with BIG HOUSE plastered onto it, or it's too simple. Chips and Dips is Deck Hands from 7, Pedal Pushers is Slot Car Derby from 1/2, All Geared Up is Gun the Runner from 8 but without the gun, and Hot Skotch is Lob to Rob from 8 (as well), Soap Surfers is Bumper Balls from 1/2, etc. The big house theme just gets old after a ...more

8 Super Mario Party

6,5/10 = Good

It's pretty enjoyable game, but one I kind of like to trash on because of how overrated I feel it is. I got it for christmas in 2018 and I hated it back then, but I got back into it some weeks ago and my opinion was highly boosted, but it's still a bit mediocre. My main complaint is that the game itself was only created as revenge agianst the car parties because salty fans weren't happy with nine similarly-games, and as a result, it falls flat because it doesn't try to innovate. It has a total of four boards, all of which are pretty lazy and uninspired, plus none of the side modes scream original either. I like Sound Stage and Partner Party, but the rest is pretty meh. Mario Party is bare bones of what made some of the originals good, River Survival gets boring after a while, and Challenge Road is a one-time side mode.
However as I said, I loved Sound Stage and Partner Party. The former has you playing a bunch of rhythm minigames, which includes shaking your ...more

9 Mario Party 10

6/10 = Decent

It's OK. Not a particularly good game at all from objective standpoints, but it's not abominational either. Most of the time people only go on and hate on this game because it brought back a feature that wasn't even that bad from 9, the car. The thing is though, most of the problems stem from other things in the game, whereas the car is what makes this game somewhat fun. In a nutshell though, you can call this Mario Party 9 but without many of the things that made that a great game, for example soundtrack, interesting board gimmicks, and a lack of side modes. The only modes we have are Mario Party, Bowser Party and Amiibo Party, all that come with huge downsides, as the boards are shallow, Bowser Party gets old quick and Amiibo Party is stale at best.
However, this game also has amazing minigames, some of which are my favourites of all time, which include some engaging boss fights. I get minigames are for the most part, a subjective thing, but I can't really ...more

Plays exactly like Mario Party 9 the only new addition is the Bowser Party mode which is pretty much gives the player controlling Bowser an unfair advantage though some of the mini games are decent overall pretty meh in my opinion 5/10.

10 Mario Party 3
The Contenders
11 Mario Party
12 Mario Party 2
13 Mario Party 4
14 Mario Party 5

3/10 = Bad

It's the earilest Mario Party game that I own, and I remember only buying it for a single minigame's sake, and boy was it a freakin' regret. To make matters worse, THAT is the one minigame I still haven't unlocked yet. I can't imagine how 1-4 are if this game is this bad.
It was the first Mario Party game to have 3D boards, and while that is an accomplishment that should've been reached with the first game, it's not celebrated well as the boards are absolutely crap. They all feel uninspired and empty without any atmosphere, and they all have the same rules, same atmosphere, same everything. Everything is made out of dreams in this game, but I dare to say it's more of a nightmare how lazily bland everything feels. And don't even get me started on the horrific minigames.
There are some decent ones, like Defuse or Lose, Frozen Frenzy, Hotel Goomba and Frightmare!, but they're a minority. Pretty much half of the minigames are all button-mashing, the single-handedly ...more
