Best Albums of 2016

The Contenders: Page 5

81 Victorious - Wolfmother
82 Death of a Bachelor - Panic! at the Disco
83 Deadpool Soundtrack
84 Vibe - Fler

It's amazing how Fler evolved. When he started in the early 2000s, he was one of the first big German rappers who had mainstream attention. He was an authentic street rapper, but had little skill, he barely rhymed words and he sometimes came out unintentionally funny. He had several moderately successful albums over the years but was always overshadowed by other rappers. In 2016, he came back with this massive album and all of a sudden was on top again. It's a perfectly produced record with real content that was well performed, he has a great flow now that was lacking on older records. The intense feud with Kollegah (propably the best German rapper of all time) pushed him to a whole new level, "Vibe" is not only a good rap album, it has serously good music and is very melodic, and it's like a look into Fler's mind. He said he wanted this album to be nothing less than a masterpiece, and he succeeded. You can really feel the "Vibe" in each song. - Martin_Canine

85 Lost In Forever - Beyond the Black

Not only were Beyond the Black the most promising newcomers last year, the follow up to their debut, "Lost in Forever", has the chance to become the best album of 2016 as well. As I write this, it's May, so there is still a lot to be released, but I'm sure Beyond the Black's second masterpiece is without a doubt going to be an album I'll be listening to for a very long time without it losing any of its magic. - Martin_Canine

87 Islah - Kevin Gates
88 The Human Condition - Jon Bellion
89 Unleashed - Skillet

90 Mambos Levis D'outro Mundo - Various Artists
91 The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser - Rob Zombie
92 Magma - Gojira
93 Soul Searchin' - Jimmy Barnes
94 The North Corridor - Chevelle
95 Paradise Lost - Delta Heavy

Delta Heavy have always intrigued me, with heavy dnb and dubstep remixes of already catchy songs, and combining that style with funky house, gives them an experimental reputation that iften has great effect. But only now are we getting a full-on album, and I really don't know what to say. Delta Heavy, despite having different styles of music, have always made me think of Nero, with their weirdness but skill to put unlikely attributes together. And Nero have so far released two albums which they claim to tell post-apocalyptic thrillers when the tracks are put together. And that totally makes sense, but you don't get a full sense of what they envision. I don't know if Paradise Lost is doing the same thing, but as I listen, it does also seem to be telling you a story. According to my imagination running wild as I listen, I picture that this is what is going through someone's mind as they are losing their grip on life, perhaps the black hole is a metaphor for an overwhelming depression, ...more - PositronWildhawk

96 Mind of Mine - Zayn
97 Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not - Dinosaur Jr.
98 In Our Bones - Against the Current V 1 Comment
99 I Like It When You Sleep, for You are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It - The 1975
100 The Brightest Void - Tarja

Tarja reinvents herself on this album, the first volume of a two part series with the second, "The Shadow Self", due in early August. It features a variety of styles, with symphonic metal only being present on the Within Temptation collaboration "Paradise", ranging from pop rock to almost musical touches, also some country rock, alternative and even a bit of Björk-like electronica. Fans and critics alike may be devided over this new styles, calling it unfocused, but to me it is Tarja's most creative, inventive and varied album (and, with 9 tracks lasting for about 44 minutes, it has no filler tracks). - Martin_Canine
