Best Albums to Get You Into Death Metal

So you wanna start listening to death metal, and you don't know where to start?

You can't just start with the brutal stuff, you gotta ease into it. So here are the 10 best albums to start yourself off on a huge, great world of Death Metal.
The Top Ten
1 Symbolic - Death

Great riffs, technicality, and vocals. Chuck Schuldiner had one of the greatest death growls ever. As for the newcomers, you can understand what he's saying quite easily.

You could pretty much put any Death album at #1, because they never had a bad one.

The first death metal album I gotten was scream bloody gore and blackwater park. But this will always remain my favorite

2 Twilight of the Thunder God - Amon Amarth

Melodic Death Metal usually has a slightly different form of vocals than traditional death metal, but not Amon Amarth.

This guy has one of the better Death growls out there, and its chalk full of great riffs, melodies, and catchy choruses.

This is my case - Amon Amarth got me into DM. Currently I like many other bands, including bands from other DM subgenres but I still like Amon Amarth.

3 Seven Churches - Possessed

One of the first Death Metal bands ever. Possessed has a good vocal style for beginners, similar to Death's, and it takes a thrashy approach.

Possessed can from the Bay Area Thrash Metal scene, and played alongside Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, and Testament in the early 80s. Seven Churches is a great starter album if you already enjoy Thrash Metal.

4 Altars of Madness - Morbid Angel

That old school DM sound just like death. Its not as technical, but its got great vocals. Its one of the most popular death metal albums ever, and a great starter album.

5 Heartwork - Carcass

Carcass has a very diverse sound, but this album is the most popular in there discography. It's a melodic death metal album, and with the vocals of Jeff Walker, this album will lure you into DM

6 Kill - Cannibal Corpse

The main reason I had trouble getting into cannibal corpse at first was because I don't really like Chris Barnes like most people do. Once I heard Corpsegrinder-era CC, I became a fan instantly.

CC is on the brutal side, but there's a reason why they are the most notorious and popular Death Metal band. Corpsegrinder has one of the best growls out there, and the heavy riffs and drums add to a great recipe for metal.

7 Human - Death

As I said, the top spots could've all been death, but I restrained myself. This album is another DM masterpiece. There's not much to say that I haven't already about Chuck, so listen and enjoy

8 Blackwater Park - Opeth
9 Figure Number Five - Soilwork
10 Deicide - Deicide

This album was one of the first non-Death albums that I really loved. Deicide is just amazing, really. They were one of my first death metal bands, and they should be one of yours.

The Contenders
11 Reroute to Remain - In Flames
12 Follow the Reaper - Children of Bodom
13 Haven - Dark Tranquility
14 The Anthropocene Extinction - Cattle Decapitation

This just might be one of my all time favorite albums. Travis Ryan is the best DM vocalist today, in my opinion.

These guys have a heavy sound, with good vocals. The catch is, almost every song has melodic vocals, which makes it very appealing.

15 Leprosy - Death
16 Epitaph - Necrophagist

Technical Death Metal at its finest! This album has a heavier style of death growls, but this album is chalk full of bass and guitar solos, and great riffs. Who can hate such a thing?

17 Spiritual Healing - Death
18 Still Life - Opeth
19 Into the Grave - Grave
20 Hate Crew Deathroll - Children of Bodom
21 Those Once Loyal - Bolt Thrower
22 My Arms, Your Hearse - Opeth
23 Genexus - Fear Factory
24 Virus - Hypocrisy
25 Nocturnal - The Black Dahlia Murder

It has complexity and melody while retaining brutality. This is the album that got me into death metal.
