Albums With the Best Vocal Performances

metalmaiden
Which albums have the greatest overall vocal performances? Which albums make you say "WOW" every time you hear the vocalist singing? I'm surprised nobody has thought of this list yet... that is unless I didn't check thoroughly enough?

The Top Ten

1 Awakening - Jackie Evancho

Another example of pure song from the most beautiful voice around today.

Amazing. Another step-up for this talented singer.

She has done it again!

I am addicted to her...she is,amazing...beautiful...talented...great family and she is loyal to them as they are to her...VOTE JACKIE

2 A Night at the Opera - Queen (Freddie Mercury)

Obvious, because he was (and is) the greatest singer of all time. Nobody beats him, not even Jackie Evancho. No way.

3 Dream With Me - Jackie Evancho

And just like that, the next great superstar was born.

She was 11 years old with big dreams that are coming true when she recorded this album. Now at age 14 she is just starting a world tour, and is signed to record by Sony Master works. Her future is as bright as the star Jackie wishes on. She has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard.

Astonishing vocals from a young lady with a bright future. - BobG

Superb!

4 Sad Wings of Destiny - Judas Priest (Rob Halford)

This album to me is the pinnacle of what vocalists can do when singing on an album. Rob Halford sounds beautiful on this, hitting every note with precise control. Every song on this album is sung differently as well. It's as if Rob Halford is just there to showcase to everyone just how amazing he is. This is also my favorite Judas Priest album and Rob Halford's vocals/singing contribute a lot to that reason. - metalmaiden

5 Demons & Wizards - Demons & Wizards (Hansi KÜRSCH)

The most passionate vocal performances I've ever heard and also the most beautiful tone. Very powerful and versatile metal voice that can be very soft and very harsh at the same time. Incredibly well crafted melodic screams.
Try: Path Of Glory, My Last Sunrise, Heaven Denies, Fiddler On The Green, Poor Man's Crusade. - Metal_Treasure

6 The Warning - Queensryche (Geoff Tate)
7 Grace - Jeff Buckley

For me jeff is much better than tim, his voice is more beautiful and more powerful, tim has a more concrete voice. Grace proves this, listen Grace, Hallelujah, Last Goodbye, So Real, Corpus Christi Carol, Last Goodbye and see how powerful and pure your voice is.

Somewhat overrated, his father was the better singer and writer.

I would also favor Tim Buckley [father] over Jeff Buckley [son]

8 The Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden (Bruce Dickinson)

Since Freddie doesn't sing every song on A Night at the Opera, I'll go with this instead. Bruce Dickinson is easily the best metal vocalist of all-time. Even at his worst (his voice was shot during No Prayer for the Dying) he's still impressive. - truckturner

9 In Rock - Deep Purple (Ian Gillan)
10 Keeper of the Seven Keys - Helloween (Michael Kiske)

The Contenders

11 Badmotorfinger - Soundgarden (Chris Cornell)
12 Holy Diver - Dio (Ronnie James Dio)
13 Horror Show - Iced Earth (Matt Barlow)
14 Songs from the Silver Screen - Jackie Evancho

The music of this album is also performed in Jackie's second PBS Great Performances concert "Music Of The Movies". See YouTube, Vimeo, or PBS for video clips. - Trancas

What a wonderful voice she has!
That's real singing

On this album, Jackie revisits and reinterprets familiar songs from well-known movies. In so doing, she makes each piece her own.

15 Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin (Robert Plant)
16 Quadrophenia - The Who (Roger Daltrey)
17 Nightfall In Middle-Earth - Blind Guardian (Hansi KÜRSCH)
18 Elvis - Elvis Presley

Also called "The Comeback Album", which was an NBC-T.V. special, and showed he was still The King.

19 The Doors - The Doors

Morrison's performance on "The End" all by itself warrants this being in the #1 spot.

20 White Album - The Beatles
21 For Those About to Rock (We Salute You) - AC/DC (Brian Johnson)
22 After the Gold Rush - Neil Young
23 Heavy - Iron Butterfly
24 Talking Book - Stevie Wonder
