81 Purple Rain - Prince

There has always been too much hype and drama over Thriller and while it had some classic tunes it always seemed more like it was a circus with a dozen different writers and a whole room full of session musicians trying to be taken seriously. That was an album begging for attention. Prince was cool, he did it his way, no hype, just a musician and his music...here's the album, I think you'll dig it. He let the music do the talking and didn't try to impress anybody with choreographed big time budget videos and dance moves. Anyway check out Purple Rain the deluxe edition. - frankmartin

Prince has to be the most talented guy ever. If Sign O' The Times was on this list I would've voted for that one but Purple Rain is still an excellent album. I love every single song, but my favorite off this album is The Beautiful Ones, the way he screams in that song always gives me chills and makes me wish I could have the voice to sing with the passion and raw sexual energy that he had! He's my favorite artist ever.

Let's Go Crazy, The Beautiful Ones, Darlin Nikki, I Would Die 4 U, Baby I'm A Star, WHEN DOVES CRY, and PURPLE RAIN

Easily the best of the 80s, has to be the best of all time considering the great decade that was

82 All Hope is Gone - Slipknot

So I scrolled all this time and there it is

83 Illmatic - Nas

Why is this album not at least in the top ten on this list. Christ is seems like the people who vote on these lists think that music died with nirvana. I personally do not strive to be hipster but I do believe that music is all just a matter of taste and opinion but God the hipster type always put down hip hop as being meaningless just because they have only heard mainstream hip hop. Well, hipsters I challenge u to listen to this album and not respect the pure genius that is Nasir jones

This album was not only astounding on every level, providing it's audience with every single one of it's exceptional tracks, but it also revolutionized a genre, a remarkable feat that I can't speak for every album of this list, but I must say it's rather hard to believe that many others have done so as well.

Best Rapper of all the Time! And One of the Best Rap producers make a Album! = ILLMATIC = Best Rap Album Ever!
I've Never listened to Album with so much Quality, I would change nothing On it. It's THE perfect Album of all the Time.

This should be right below Dark Side of the Moon on any greatest albums list!

84 Painkiller - Judas Priest

One of the greatest albums of the history metal music.

This album is a masterpiece of metal. It gives me so much energy that I can do a Genkidama

85 Tonight: Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
86 A Rush of Blood to the Head - Coldplay

Should be in the top ten! Every single song on this album is incredible and beautifully written. Clocks, politik, god put a smile upon your face, are all amazing but then again so is everything else on the album. It really shows Coldplay's true talent and versatility with each song. Incredible album

A lot of the albums above this, they just have two or three standout songs. This should be in the top ten because every track is a classic and is worth listening to.

Coldplay's most distinctive album, not just because of the made for radio hits (Clocks and The Scientist) but more importantly the more artistic statements made through the title track and Amsterdam. The best top to bottom album the group made.

Best Coldplay's album.

87 Dirt - Alice In Chains

In terms of sheer heaviness, there aren't many album I have heard that are darker, moodier, heavier, and more emotional than this. Every song is a masterpiece. Key tracks: Rooster, Down In a Hole, Would? , Them Bones, Rain When I Die

Arguably the most influential rock band of the 90's. Every song sang by Layne Staley is a thing of beauty.

Viewing the album as a whole, I actually think Dirt is better than most of the Nirvana albums.

In my opinion, Alice in Chains are more musically influential then Nirvana, how many bands take Nirvanas sound and just add a slightly different vocalist, none that I can name, but Alice in Chains has Godsmack, KoRn, and 75% of 2000s metal bands.

88 Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols - Sex Pistols

The greatest punk album of all time. This is THE album of the people. Even though it's rough around the edges, without it, music as we know it wouldnt exist

Uncompromising in every way. It felt like a declaration of war when it came out.

Raw punk at its finest. London calling and dookie are also good.

It is an album, but they started something very important.

89 Minutes to Midnight - Linkin Park

Full of great songs, such as "Leave out all the rest", "What I've Done" & others, there was no way I was going to leave this album out -

Am I the only one who thinks that this is better and more meaningful than Meteora.

90 Moondance - Van Morrison V 2 Comments
91 Ray of Light - Madonna

Shame to the people who say pop music is shallow. This album written and produced by Madonna along with William Orbit is amazing and influenced the mainstream by bringing electronic music into its work. This album deals with themes of motherhood, loneliness, selfishness and death. The vocals are Madonna's strongest and compositions range from trip hop inspired ballads to techno/drum and bass lite dance songs. This pop album is worlds better than Thriller.

Madonna's Ray of Light is purely and simply, a work of art. Just listen to it and be engulfed in its ambience and artistry. Certainly an emotional, mature, and introspective album. Definitely some of Madonna's best work.

Love it. Every single track.

Madonna's best album

92 Metropolis, Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory - Dream Theater

Seriously. This album. Go and listen right now. Honestly. Please.

I thought Dream Theatre had a least a dozen great ones...how do choose which is the greatest? - frankmartin

Dream Theater fans need to vote, this is by far the greatest album of all time.

Best album ever. - ActOfGenesis

93 Bat Out of Hell - Meatloaf

An iconic album which should be in the top 10 albums of all time. Every song tells a story, powerful emotive lyrics, classic ballads like Heaven Can Wait contrast with up tempo tracks like Dead Ringer for Love, and some tracks combine the two with a level of light and shade that modern artists today cannot emulate. Truly superb.

Somebody once told me that Bat Out of Hell was an all time classic and someone else answered just because it's a classic doesn't mean it doesn't suck. I'm sure it's a great album, I've only heard the radio hits. - frankmartin

'Dead Ringer for Love' is not on this album, it's on, as the title almost gives a slight hint, 'Dead Ringer for Love'.

One of the best selling albums ever

94 One X - Three Days Grace

This is one of the best albums on the planet, but gets very little recognition. The lyrics tell about Adams fight against addiction and the music really touches the heart.

Greatest album ever. Some of the best sons including Never Too Late, Animal I have Become and the best Gone Forever.

This song is definitely my favourite! There is not a single song on it that I find any less than amazing.

95 Brand New Eyes - Paramore

I love this album so much. I realize it's not a legendary album or a very famous/mainstream one either so it will probably never get to the top but it is definitely one the best albums I've ever heard. All the songs were unique but the album was organized very well, it's really relatable, it was really emotional too but it wasn't whiney at the slightest and lyrically wow it's just perfect. I just want to inject this album into my bloodstream

This. Is by FAR the most underrated album ever. Paramore's never really been mainstream or successful, but there's honestly so much unrecognized glory in this album. I can't vote for it, since I honestly consider Rumours more deserving of the spot, but I highly encourage people to do so.

This may not be the best album in the world... But it's worth listening to

96 Death Magentic - Metallica V 1 Comment
97 My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Kanye West

This album is perfection! The songs are all genius and they all go with the theme that he is trying to express. Definitely top 5 album of all time.

Very artistic approach to hip hop, a music genre many people disrespect because of its reputation. This album surpasses the "lack of meaning" people believe in when they think about hip-hop, and in general it is pretty much perfect when it comes to music. Perfection comes in many shapes and sizes and this is one of them. Thank you Mr. West for showing the people that hip hop has much more depth than what the average person perceives.

One of the best albums of the decade.

Easily a top 10 album of all time"coming from a huge Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Radiohead fan!

98 Vulgar Display of Power - Pantera

Its hard to believe people are voting for sissy boy bands over this tough heavy album. What the hell people

That's because this is way too much power for mere pop ears to handle - frankmartin

One of their best. Great ballads. True power.

Best album ever. It contains "Walk" and "Mouth for War"; isn't it enough to be the best?

First 6 or 7 songs are great, then it slides a little bit

99 Warning - Green Day
100 The Great Twenty-Eight - Chuck Berry

Kind of the cream of the Berry crop. Most anything that you would want to hear is right here and considering that most of the songs start to have the same rhythm you won't need all his albums. - frankmartin

Wouldn't this be shocking if this actually was #28?
