WonkeyDude98 Analysis: Here

I didn't make this post because I like the song, even though I do. I made this post to clear up the fallacies and misconceptions of this song. A lot of people have called this pretentious and whiny, and they only look at the song from face value. That's why I'm here, to clear that up.

This production is nice, but flawed. The crushing synths, the ascending chime, and the piano make the song really dark, perfect for a drunken, "I need to get out of here" feel, which is what the song is trying to convey. Your attention span when listening to this has to be just right though, if you zone out too much or think about the song too hard, the piano will become grating and start to stick out. Additionally, the beat requires the song to work, it's not very strong on it's own.

Alessia Cara is an absolutely fantastic singer. Her voice, while limited in the range department, is filled with personality and emotion, incredibly distinctive from her peers like Lorde and such. She has the perfect voice for literally anything, shown by her covers, but her performance here is astoundibg. It's not even her voice that's the best part. She goes on and on and on without stopping, and she doesn't even take a breath. It's incredible, but it can be either the best or worst thing about the song. It can be the best in that it's impressive, or thw orst in that it is droning. I can stand it.

These lyrics are so misunderstood it's not even funny. It's about how Alessia goes to a party with her friends and discovers she doesn't enjoy it. Here's the thing: she didn't go to the party knowing she wasn't going to enjoy it. She thinks she's gonna have fun, and she doesn't. Another misconception is that people ask: "why doesn't she just leave?" There are lyrics like "pardon my manners" and "nothing wrong with your outfit", showing that Alessia doesn't want to come off as rude, but she doesn't enjoy the party, so she's stuck. As for the "music with the message" line, she may not be talking about party music in general. She may like Fetty Wap and Pitbull for all we know. Maybe she doesn't like the song in particular that's on. Maybe it's ilovememphis or Rae Sremmurd. We don't know for sure, but you can't think about this so hard.

To be honest, if I were to make a list of the best hit songs of 2015, and only of songs that released in 2015, Here would be #1, plus the fact that party music has forgotten what it is lately, I don't mind if someone talks about not liking a party. This song gets a 4/5 from me, because it still has flaws. Nonetheless, I hope Alessia Cara prospers greatly in the industry. This is WonkeyDude98, signing out.
