Top 10 Alternate Motives for a Slasher Movie Villain

We usually know very little about slasher villains at the start. We just assume that they're there for a reason. And when that reason is revealed...

Well, it's usually some variation of "he died and he's looking for revenge" or "his friend/parents died and he's looking for revenge by murdering anyone that looks at him funny". But what if it wasn't the case? What other motives could this mystery maniac have to loosely justify his cold-blooded murder?
The Top Ten
1 Because he can

Not good enough. The lunch one is more realistic though.

2 Someone stole his lunch and that pushed him over the edge

Remember, never ever steal some kid's lunch or he'll be conducting a killing spree when he grows up.

3 He's a contract assassin who's been tasked to hunt down the protagonists
4 He comes from a place where slicing someone in half with a chainsaw is a form of saying hello

Are there other forms of saying "Hello" in your country?

5 He wants to try out his shiny new axe

Why not try it out on a bit of wood? That's much more sophisticated.

Huh. A good reason I suppose.

6 He's giving the protagonists a lesson about weapon responsibility

Then the protagonist can go after him in the after life

7 He thinks the protagonists are aliens from another planet who can only be stopped with brutal murder
8 He thinks his weapon is fake and won't hurt anyone, which turns out to be a fatal mistake

You see, this is why we perform scientific experiments on animals.

9 He's bored and has nothing else to do on a Saturday night

Damn it, you found out my guilty pleasure!

10 The protagonists are secretly maniacs as well, and it's his job to eliminate the competition

Survival of the fittest, it's how he lives.
