Top Ten Animals and Mythical Creatures to Have as a Patronus

If you haven't seen or read Harry Potter, you won't know that a Patronus is essentially a spirit guardian which exists in animal form, and is a wizard's strongest line of defense. Its form represents what you identify with in positive spirit, and is thus a topic worth debating.
The Top Ten
1 Dragon A dragon is a legendary creature, typically with serpentine or reptilian traits, that features in the myths of many cultures.

Dragons are giant winged, fire -breathing reptiles. Widely regarded as terrifying yet awe-inspiring, they can be found all over the world and are frequently referred to in Asian and medieval European folklore.

Naturally a meat eating, destroyer, loot stealer to keep it in a den, kidnapper of princess, everything you don't want.

I'm pretty sure my Patronus would be a dragon. A naturally intelligent, wild and energetic creature.

I thought this was going to be my Patronus! Unfortunately, it was just a Newfoundland.

2 Phoenix

I love the mythos about the phoenix and how it rises from its ashes. It's such a powerful symbol and a very unique patronus to have. But then Dumbledore was a very unique wizard. But I really enjoy the story about the mouse patronus. The man who had this mouse patronus was thought of as "weak" and laughed at because it was so small but his patronus ended up beating the dementors that plagued his village when all the other "strong" patronus failed. So he was proclaimed the hero and his small lil mouse patronus hailed as the strongest. It just goes to show you that it doesn't matter what form your patronus takes but the feeling and strength of will behind it. (Rowling wrote this story as an article on Pottermore in case anyone wants to read it or check it out on the Harry Potter wikia page.)

Phoenixes are made of FIRE. They can live 6x as long as any human. Phoenixes are altogether AWESOME. Plus, why just breath fire when you can be made of fire?

Albus Dumbledore's Patronus. Phoenixes are awesome. These immortal fire birds are my favourite animals.

Absolutely majestic. Wanted one since forever. I think a Pheonix would make a very cool patronus!

3 Dog The domestic dog is a wolf-like canid in the genus Canis, and is the most widely abundant terrestrial carnivore. It is active all around the world, and is one of the most popular domestic pets as of 2021. They come in more than 350 breeds.

I would get a Shiba Inu because they protect their owners so if my overprotective mom or relatives sees me walking with other dogs nearby I can trust my shiba to reassure them that the other dogs will not harm us.

they are amazing and super friendly
they have a positive vibe which helps strengthen the positiveness of the Patronus. It is my Patronus and I love dogs. I also love my Patronus

Dogs deserve to be the third place as a Patronus because they are loyal and protective. My Patronus is actually a Bernese Mountain Dog!

Probably a bit biased as a husky is my Patronus, but still!

4 Hawk Hawks are a group of medium-sized diurnal birds of prey of the family Accipitridae which are widely distributed and varying greatly in size.

My online namesake is a hawk. And you all know I'm perceptive and powerful.

My patronus is a hawk as well.

I think I am a hawk.

I like peanuts.

5 Pegasus

The Pegasus represents pride and majesty, which is why it's a perfect Patronus. The Pegasus is a loyal creature that is not defeated easily. It's a perfect beast to have under your power.

I would love for my Patronus to be a pegasus. Majestic and graceful creatures, if they existed.

I try to see online exam telling that what is you patronus and I got pegasus... I think so..

It is a amazing creature. Beautiful, majestic and awesome.

6 Dolphin Dolphins are a widely distributed and diverse group of fully aquatic marine mammals. They are an informal grouping within the order Cetacea, excluding whales and porpoises, so to zoologists the grouping is paraphyletic.

My Patronus would definitely be a dolphin, they are naturally protective, intelligent, and swift!

A highly evolved creature, and the animal we're closest to communicating with.

What about Kanzi the bonobo and Coco the gorilla? We've already established communication with them to a certain extent.

I think this would be mine. If always had a soft spot for dolphins

7 Eagle Eagle is a common name for many large birds of prey of the family Accipitridae; it belongs to several groups of genera that are not necessarily closely related to each other. Eagles are also one of America's national symbols.

Intelligent, fierce, & graceful. A Ravenclaw's or Gryffindor's patronus.

8 Snow Leopard The snow leopard is a large cat native to the mountain ranges of Central and South Asia. The name "Snow Leopard" is due to its white fur, and the black spots dotted over it.
9 Cat The "House Cat", also known as the Domestic Cat or the Feral Cat, is a small feline, a good hunter, and comes in a variety of colors and fur patterns. Contrary to popular belief, however, they are not truly domesticated. They are highly intelligent and good at problem solving.

Love it. Sometimes I wish this was my patronus, but I'm happy with my otter.

10 Owl Owls are birds from the order Strigiformes, which includes about two hundred species of mostly solitary and nocturnal birds of prey typified by an upright stance, a large, broad head, binocular vision, binaural hearing, sharp talons, and feathers adapted for silent flight.

I identify with birds in general. Though it does suit you PetSounds!

However, I'm on my third all nighter this week, so don't blame me for feeling owl-ish too...

This probably the bird I identify most with. It suits me, don't you think.

Votin for owls just because there are lots of owls in Harry Potter.

The Contenders
11 Centaur A centaur, or occasionally hippocentaur, is a mythological creature with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a horse.

How exactly can a centaur be a patronus? It can only be an animal...

12 Snake Snakes are elongated, legless, carnivorous reptiles of the suborder Serpentes that can be distinguished from legless lizards by their lack of eyelids and external ears. About 600 species are venomous, some of which can be fatal to humans if no medical help is sought.

The snake may have some dark connotations in the Harry Potter series, but the snake has its positive attributes. For one thing, I have a thing for snakes.

This is what I got in Pottermore. According to some site:
" If you have an Adder patronus, you most likely are a very lovely person to be around, until someone pushes your buttons."
" People with Adder patronuses have a soft spot for those younger than them."
Cool. I guess it describes me...? Lol

13 Wolf Often in/from packs, Wolves are carnivorous Canines that come in various colours and breeds, and have evolved to Dogs. Some breeds of Wolves are, like Dogs, domesticated, to become a Working Dog.

Wolves are brave, intelligent and brave.

Loyal and they always find the path, they are pathfinders and all knowers

That will be awesome!

14 Mermaid A mermaid is a legendary aquatic creature with the head and upper body of a female human and the tail of a fish.
15 Lion The lion is one of the big cats in the genus Panthera and a member of the family Felidae. The commonly used term African lion collectively denotes the several subspecies in Africa.

Bravery, strength, & unwavering loyalty. A Gryffindor's or Hufflepuff's.

16 Griffin

My patronus. Gryphons are beautiful, powerful, and extremely intelligent.

How is this not in top 10? Griffins are amazing. Half lion, half eagle.

Wise, fierce, loyal, magical, and they can fly!

17 Monitor Lizard
18 Unicorn The unicorn is a legendary creature that has been described since antiquity as a pure-white horse-like beast with a large, pointed, spiraling horn projecting from its forehead

I have a unicorn as my patronus!

19 Shark Sharks are a group of fish characterized by a cartilaginous skeleton, five to seven gill slits on the sides of the head, and pectoral fins that are not fused to the head. Sharks have been around before the earth's first dinosaurs and even the earth's first trees.

Underestimated, brave, & calm except under attack. A Ravenclaw's patronus

20 Hippogriff

They are a duplicate of griffins except with a better name. But I still love them.

This is my Patronus and it is awesome.

21 Elephant African elephants are elephants of the genus Loxodonta. The genus consists of two extant species: the African bush elephant, L. africana, and the smaller African forest elephant, L. cyclotis.

Strong, protective, & kind. Either a Gryffindor's or a Hufflepuff's patronus.

22 Falcon
23 Occamy
24 Fox Foxes are small to medium sized animals and belong to the Canidae family along with other animals such as jackals, wolves, and domestic dogs. There are 37 species of fox but only 12 are considered true Vulpes. A fox's prey is small mammals, birds, reptiles, frogs, eggs, insects, worms, fish, crabs, more.
25 Thestral

One of the most ethereal creatures unknown to most.
