Top 10 Animals Whose Noises are Featured in Music

The Top Ten

1 Horse Horse

Used in "Sleigh Ride" by the Ronettes

Horse noises are everywhere in metal (and sometimes used outside metal) - from galloping rhythm to horse whiny imitated with a whammy bar:
The Trooper - Iron Maiden
Spirit Horse of the Cherokee - Manowar
Vain Glory Opera - Edguy
Bad Horsie - Steve Vai
Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden
Barracuda - Heart - Metal_Treasure

2 Nightingale Nightingale

In Spring by Vivaldi one can hear many birds and I guess there are nightingales in the bird choir but I can't be sure (I am no expert and can't identify the bird noises).
Also, I think Bobbejaan Schoepen imitates nightingales in his song De Jodelende Fluiter but again, I am no expert in bird sounds. - Metal_Treasure

It's the most used noise in classical music. Examples:
"Sweet bird" in L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato - Hendel
"Nightingale chorus" in Solomon - Hendel
Beethoven's Third Symphony
Organ Concerto "No. 13", known as "The Cuckoo and the Nightingale" - Hendel
Hippolyte - Rameau - Metal_Treasure

3 Wolf Wolf Often in/from packs, Wolves are carnivorous Canines that come in various colours and breeds, and have evolved to Dogs. Some breeds of Wolves are, like Dogs, domesticated, to become a Working Dog.

6 Cuckoo Cuckoo

This is the 2nd most used sound in classical music after Nightingales. Examples:
Concerto in A, The Cuckoo - Vivaldi
Pastoral Symphony, 2nd movement - Beethoven
"The Cuckoo and the Nightingale" (Organ Concerto "No. 13") - Hendel
On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring - Delius - Metal_Treasure

7 Seagull Seagull

In Echoes by Pink Floyd the "seagull" effect is achieved with a guitar. This is a quote from wiki:
"The high-pitched electronic "screams", resembling a distorted seagull song, were discovered by Gilmour when the cables were accidentally reversed to his wah pedal. After observing the song being created, Nick Mason noted: "The guitar sound in the middle section of 'Echoes' was created inadvertently by David plugging in a wah-wah pedal back to front. Sometimes great effects are the results of this kind of pure serendipity, and we were always prepared to see if something might work on a track."
Also, there are many birds featured in the song Aerial Tal by Kate Bush but I think it features seagulls at the very end (I'm not 100% sure these are seagulls but the song deserves to be mentioned) - Metal_Treasure

8 Elephant Elephant African elephants are elephants of the genus Loxodonta. The genus consists of two extant species: the African bush elephant, L. africana, and the smaller African forest elephant, L. cyclotis.

I would save this explanation for zxm (he did it on another list and I liked it) - Metal_Treasure

9 Duck Duck Duck is the common name for a large number of species in the waterfowl family Anatidae, which also includes swans and geese.

13 Blackbird
14 Eagle Eagle Eagle is a common name for many large birds of prey of the family Accipitridae; it belongs to several groups of genera that are not necessarily closely related to each other. Eagles are also one of America's national symbols.
15 Shark Shark Sharks are a group of fish characterized by a cartilaginous skeleton, five to seven gill slits on the sides of the head, and pectoral fins that are not fused to the head. Sharks have been around before the earth's first dinosaurs and even the earth's first trees.
