The Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world. It covers an area of about 10,000 sq km . Of which, forests in Bangladesh extend over 6,017 sq km and in West Bengal, they extend over 4,260 sq km. The forests provide habitat to 453 faunal wildlife, including 290 bird, 120 fish, 42 mammal, 35 reptile and eight amphibian species.
