Top 10 Best Anime Series

My own personal list - which is what many people have done. I apologise if I have left out any series you believe are good. Please comment on them if they are good 'cos I would like to watch them.
The Top Ten
1 Death Note Death Note is a Japanese television drama anime series based on the manga series of the same name by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. The show is centered around Light Yagami - a promising highschooler and aspiring detective with a strong sense of "justice".

I know it's practically a cliche to have this well known anime on my list, but what the hell ever. This series has something that I love in anime, a moral dilemma. I mean, you have this seemingly perfect guy, the protagonist, Light Yagami, who in reality is a serial murderer like no other with zero respect for human life and a massive god complex. Yes up until about halfway through, Light was magnificent to watch. He could scheme like no other, his intelligence only rivaled by L's, a world renowned detective with terrible posture and a pension for sweets. These two characters perfectly contradicted each other. While Light considered himself a god, L had no ego to speak of, preferring to stay in the shadows. Like many fans although I did enjoy the whole series, it did lose some of it's pinaz after (SPOILER ALERT) L died. Fabulously thrilling with amazing characters and some pretty impressive detective work on both L and Kira's part. I will always love this anime, no matter how many times I have to listen to Lights creepy ass laugh.

2 Dragon Ball Z Dragon Ball Z is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation. Dragon Ball Z follows the adventures of Goku who, along with the Z Warriors, defends the Earth against evil. The action adventures are entertaining and reinforce the concept of good versus evil. Dragon Ball Z teaches valuable character virtues such as teamwork, loyalty, and trustworthiness.

Best and memorable anime ever made. How happy they used to be with each other I loved that. How Goku sacrificed himself for others just to save beloved ones. I love that show. That old times when I was four and I watched dbz. And I was the biggest fan.

Where would Anime be without DBZ? Same place that Tim Tebow's career is going... Nowhere. DBZ started Anime. It made Anime. All these other shows came after it.

This series is so GREAT it has made so many references. Do you see any Death Note references in Teen Titans GO! Nope.

3 Naruto Shippuden Naruto: Shippuden is the ongoing sequel to the original Naruto anime and covers the Naruto manga from volume twenty-eight on. The TV adaptation of Naruto: Shippuden debuted in Japan on February 15, 2007 on TV Tokyo. It is developed by Studio Pierrot and directed by Hayato Date.

Naruto Shippuden, best thing calmed to film and television. The English dub was pretty have his own special of good voice acting, anyone have good voice acting, even if the Japanese was pretty s-lanky-aired-out, this is everybody's cartoon/anime.

If you haven't watched this anime... You are really missing out. This is by far the best and my personal favorite anime out there. It has you in this hold that you can't pull away from. It's amazing and is really interesting. I give it a 10/10 truly a masterpiece

Good anime, but way too much filler/posturing. Highly recommended, but be prepared for some truly horrible filler arcs and fights that are spoiled (and unnecessarily dragged out) by all of the cheesy dialogue.

4 One Piece One Piece is a manga franchise created by Eiichiro Oda. The manga has been adapted into an original video animation (OVA) produced by Production I.G in 1998, and an anime series produced by Toei Animation, which began broadcasting in Japan in 1999 and has aired 851 episodes to date.

Amazing plot, incredible combination of seriousness and comedy, and wonderful action scenes! It's a very emotional anime that let's you get in the mood of the events and characters. It's empty of useless fillers like in other animes, and it'll keep on going for a long time.

Number 1 by far. One Piece has the best characters, the best story and ist the most creative anime I ever watched. Dragon Ball Z or Naruto just can't compare to the greatness that is One Piece!

I know the people of this generation does not watch one piece very often and I know dpz is older than one piece (or not) but for one piece being 6th is just sad.. And one piece is way more awesomer than dpz so one deserve 2nd place.. And death note was briliant so I have no comment on his 1st place

5 Bleach Bleach is a Japanese anime series based on Tite Kubo's manga of the same name. Bleach adapts the first 54 volumes of Tite Kubo's manga series of the same name. In addition, 4 anime-original arcs were broadcast in-between and during the adaptations of original arcs of the manga.

Bleach follows the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki, a high school student with the ability to see ghosts. The early... read more

Bleach and Fairy Tail are my favorites animes of all time, but if I were to pick one I'd go for Bleach. Why? Because it is big, and by that I not only mean the world (Hueco Mundo, Soul Society, the world of the living and even hell). There are many characters and I like every single one of them. They're fun, they're interesting, and they're real. The main character, Ichigo, is how a hero should be. Someone who's strong and fights to protect. The anime looks beautifully and the fights are thrilling. The bad guys (espada and Aizen) are really great too. They're evil, but still manage to make me sympathise with them on a certain level, expect Aizen maybe. Also the anime has some really funny moments, and the whole concept of Shinigami with Zanpakutou is just plain genius. I honestly don't understand why Naruto is higher up in this list than Bleach (and Fairy Tail).

COME ON NOW! Bleach deserves to be something like 3rd place or 2nd. The protagonists is an above average unlike Luffy and Naruto who are somewhat idiots who only care about food. Although I understand Narutos ramen obsession. Ichigo is true amazing. The villains are totally incredible and there is such a large variety of interesting characters. Ichigo looks super cool with bankai and thousand year blood war arc looks so cool when Ichigo gets his true Shikai Zanpakuto and that sub-zero Rukia looks awesome. The story is also super long because this year 2018 they will be continuing bleach in the final arc which I mentioned the name already. The final season is as said thousand year blood war arc also none as Quincy arc.

6 Attack on Titan Attack on Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese, created by Hajime Isayama, is one of the most popular Japanese anime series to be released. It was first watched in Japan during 2013 and was dubbed in English to be watched in America in 2014. It is best known for its emotional moments, apocalyptic setting, and its dramatic story line, and action packed scenes.

Absolutely brilliant. The breadcrumbs for the reveals of this world come many episodes before you would have even started to look. Give this a watch if you haven't already. The first 4-ish episodes can drag a bit, but after that it just kicks into high gear and you can't NOT keep watching.

Despite so much buzz around the show, it seems as though it's relevance is disintegrating, even with the new season that came out. (Or is still coming out? ). I would definitely recommend Death Note over this.

This anime is the best! The plot lines and spoilers make the anime much more interesting. Even though this show is very gore, you've got to admit, it's still an amazing show.

I thought this would have been higher up! Everyone seems to love it... It's an okay anime anyway, even though it doesn't appear to have any deep points like Death Note.

7 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is an anime and manga franchise originally written by Hirohiko Araki. It centers around the perilous journey of the members of the legendary Joestar bloodline.

This show should be #1, most of the shows on this list were inspired by or based on the original manga, they're all wannabe's!

The Fate series and Shaman King is also worth checking out.

Such a great show and manga. I just love it

8 Code Geass (R1 and R2) Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, often referred to as simply Code Geass, is a Japanese anime series created by Sunrise, directed by Gorō Taniguchi, and written by Ichirō Ōkouchi, with original character designs by manga authors Clamp.

Code Geass is one of those wonderful series that abandons logic at the door, only occasionally coming back to buy it a drink, before jumping back into the dance floor with lunacy and thrills. Now, this series is a total mess, but it is ridiculously entertaining. Lelouch had got to be one of the most blatantly evil hero's I've ever seen in any form of media, movies of otherwise. With a body count that has got to be in the 100,000's, Lelouch manages to be likable and despicable at the same time. Because, you know, everything he did was for his blind and crippled little sister. In the end he was willing to pay the price for peace, and pay he did. Although Suzaku kind of pissed me off sometimes, watching Lelouch put together his legendary battle strategies was thoroughly gripping.

Never in my life watch something and got so frustrated. Yes, I'm that into it. The plot is amazing and the ending is legend.

9 Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood‎ Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is an anime series adapted from the Fullmetal Alchemist manga by Hiromu Arakawa.

This is by far the best anime of all time.
Beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, clever...throughout the whole series. Yes, the show depends a little too much on seeing the 2003 version, because they are rushing through the first episodes. But damn, the show is absolutely amazing.
Death Note on the other hand, Part 1 is perfect. Part 2 is just boring/lackluster.
But jeez, it's even below the 2003 version which doesn't even have an ending without seeing a movie. (The 2003 version is amazing as well by the way)

How is this not top 3. Check the other rating sites, watch it and see that it is clearly superior to the other anime

It should be on the first place!

10 Fairy Tail Fairy Tail is a manga franchise created by Hiro Mashima. The manga has been adapted into an anime series produced by A-1 Pictures and Satelight, which began broadcasting in Japan on October 12, 2009. Fairy Tail is such a beautiful anime. The characters each have their own unique and amazing personality. This anime portrays awesome battles, beautiful romances, hilarious moments and teary moments.

Fairy Tail contains so many genres and teaches so many lessons. It has friendship, romance, comedy, action, spirituality, sad moments, family and so much more!

FAIRY TAIL! Actually the best part in the series is Natsu... He's something like super funk! Truely fairy tail is best. Second thing is the story that the characters are having...

The Contenders
11 Hunter x Hunter Hunter × Hunter is a manga franchise created by Yoshihiro Togashi. The most well written and breathtaking anime I have ever seen. Such a lovable cast of amazingly written characters, lighthearted humor mixed with a dark and serious plot line. If you enjoy adventure or action style anime, I can assure you this will definitely be worth a watch. The story itself gets quite heavy and serious later on in the show, especially the fifth arc, and I can understand if you become uninterested by that kind of story, but it puts a more lighthearted twist of the dark plot with witty and silly humor and an array of colorful characters. Hunter x Hunter is an amazing anime/manga and deserves a lot more love than it gets.

This anime is not about a little boy living in a village that likes fishing and tries to find his father. This anime is one of the deepest I have seen if not the deepest. The characters are so well written that it's not believable, same thing can be said to the chimera ant arc. It's a shame that Naruto, Death note, and specially dragon ballz are considered better than HxH... Personally I think it's the greatest anime of all time. Nothing comes close.

Not a single arc that isn't worth watching and that means no boring fillers that last for 40 episodes. It keeps your attention till the end and in the very last few episodes you enter a state of depression where you're praying that there's a second season. At first I thought this anime would be like a weird version of Dragon Ball Z but it is the BEST SHOUNEN ANIME I've ever seen and I have seen a LOT of anime my friend, this definitely deserves to be in the top 5.

Gon Freece is a boy living on a small island. He learns that his fater who he doesn't remember is an extremely famous man and an amazing hunter. Gon takes the hunte rexam to seek out his fater, but he soon learns that the challenges he must face will be beyond his imaginations. He's wondering why did his father chose to be a hunter instead of being with him. And Gon meets Killua and became bestfriends. At first Killua was too conceited but Gon changed him.

12 Naruto Naruto is an anime and manga franchise Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto. The manga was later adapted into a television anime, which was produced by Studio Pierrot and Aniplex. This was the first anime I watched and made me want to watch even more.

Best anime... From deep of my heart

13 Parasyte: The Maxim

Great animation and action. With good storyline. And far better than Tokyo ghoul.

14 Full Metal Alchemist Fullmetal Alchemist is an anime series adapted from the manga of the same name by Hiromu Arakawa. It is about two brothers, Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric, trying to restore their bodies after failing at bringing their mother back to life. It aired in 2003 and was remade as Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood in 2009.

It should be Top 5, according to me. Although the only anime I ever finished and technically, the only Anime I ever watched, it is a really powerful show. To this day, when I think of it, I still feel my heart literally feeling heavy yet happy.

Fullmetal Alchemist has changed my life. It had life lessons, like to be grateful for what you have, and it's definitely number one on my top ten anime series. If you haven't seen it, GO WATCH IT.

This will always be my favorite. The story is fantastic riddled with tragedy, humor, action, and much more. The characters are lovable and the ending, no matter which version, are bound to bring tears to your eyes

15 Black Butler Black Butler is a Japanese anime television series produced by A-1 Pictures. It premiered in October, 2008. It was based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Yana Toboso. The series follows Ciel Phantomhive, the twelve-year-old Earl of Phantomhive serving as the Queen's Watchdog. Ciel told me how much variation of fashion line can be match for a 12th boy who an English nobleman in 19th century.. Contract with a Devil? Just like Death Note which has a contract with shinigami.. Hoho.. I like this kind of story..

This is the best anime I ever watched even after I watched death note code grass and attack on titan I don't think I will find an anime better than this.

Great storyline! also they all have different personality traits than others.but I recommend this anime for anyone.

16 Cowboy Bebop Cowboy Bebop is a 1998 anime television series animated by Sunrise featuring a production team led by director Shinichirō Watanabe, screenwriter Keiko Nobumoto, character designer Toshihiro Kawamoto, mechanical designer Kimitoshi Yamane, and composer Yoko Kanno.

The episodes stand all on their own, with no necessity to see all of them to get a perfect idea of the plot. Yet, the series grips you to the point where you WANT to watch all of them. The cast is incredible and completely engaging. No character is left behind.
Also. That SOUNDTRACK

This show is amazing, and there is nothing I can said about it. Just go watch it and you'll understand what I mean.

Why isn't this already on this list? Are you people kidding me?

17 Angel Beats! Angel Beats! is a 13-episode Japanese anime television series produced by P.A.Works and Aniplex and directed by Seiji Kishi.

A truly brilliant anime in every respect. I cried so much during most episodes. It has very inspirational characters with there own problems. And it brings on a whole new take on what it means to alive. I highly recommend this anime to anybody who needs a little warmth in there day. Also I recommend having a box of tissues, trust me you will need them.

This anime is emotional and tear-jerking. The characters are all youths who live in the afterlife because they weren't able to achieve the lifetime dream they should had, so they are there fighting against 'God', for giving them such terrible lives.
Overall, a masterpiece anime that haunts you all the time, and makes you realize, life is worth it.

The first episode was really good, but sadly I couldn't find any high quality English subbed or dubbed episodes. Darn my Englishness! Well, I kinda like being English... Oh well.

This anime is great it made me cry. But it also teaches you that life really is worth living. The en of episode 13 was one of the saddest parts in the series

18 Neon Genesis Evangelion Neon Genesis Evangelion, commonly referred to as Evangelion or Eva, is a Japanese animated television series produced by Gainax and Tatsunoko Production, and directed by Hideaki Anno.
19 Dragon Ball Dragon Ball is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation. It made anime popular in America and is based on the manga of the same name by Akira Toriyama. It was dubbed in English on Cartoon Networks Toonami block and still has many fans today.
20 Hell Girl
21 Soul Eater Soul Eater is an anime series directed by Takuya Igarashi and produced by Bones, Aniplex, Dentsu, Media Factory, and TV Tokyo, which adapts the Soul Eater manga written and illustrated by Atsushi Ohkubo.

I love soul eater! I just finished all 51 episodes in just 3 to 4 days. There is a very disappointing ending which could have been much better. The ending ruined the last episode and made it turn into something that 4kids would make.
It is a wonderful anime with fascinating characters and lots of variety. There are so many characters and you will like at least 1. Also, it has an excellent storyline which has lots of twists and turns. The only downside is the ending. The last episode is the worst and after the 30th or 40th episode, it doesn't go off the manga any more but it is just to be able to make an ending for it.
Overall, it's a good anime that I recommend you to watch, whatever genre you like.

Soul Eater is real good and people are missing out, this is a excellent planned out anime. Even though with 51 episodes it still is the bomb. I think the only reason is people only watch mainstream animes like bleach and Naruto, if only Soul eater was posted on shonen jump then it would have surpassed 51 episodes right now.

22 Tokyo Ghoul Tokyo Ghoul is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Sui Ishida. It was serialized in Shueisha's seinen manga magazine Weekly Young Jump between September 2011 and September 2014, and it has been collected in fourteen tankōbon volumes as of August 2014.

Mirai Nikki is Future Diary and already in this list.

24 Kaze no Stigma Kaze no Stigma is a Japanese light novel series written by Takahiro Yamato and illustrated by Hanamaru Nanto. After the death of the author on July 20, 2009, the story remains incomplete at twelve volumes. A 24-episode anime adaptation directed by Junichi Sakata and animated by Gonzo aired from April–September 2007.

Kaze no stigma is absolutely brilliant.Too bad it doesn't have the second season because the author died but it should be in top 5 at least.Kazuma's voice actor in dubbed if jellal in Fairy Tail and Ayano is Lucy in Fairy Tail. I mean most voice actors from Kaze no stigma totally went to Fairy Tail. People of the world you have to watch this anime.

25 Gosick

I LOVE gosick and I do not know why!
