Top 10 Anime With the Best Story

Anime has a lot of qualities, most other forms of media don't have! One of those is the unique stories of every anime! These are the ten with the best ones!

The Top Ten

One Piece One Piece is a manga franchise created by Eiichiro Oda. The manga has been adapted into an original video animation (OVA) produced by Production I.G in 1998, and an anime series produced by Toei Animation, which began broadcasting in Japan in 1999 and has aired 851 episodes to date.

VERY GOOD STORY but toei drags it out way too much and its animation is not that good

One Piece is simply the gold standard for how to write a long running anime. Each saga is it's own confined epic and the variety from saga to saga is just brilliant. The characters are simply phenomenal with interactions that make them seem real. The emotional beats are hit every single time and no form of art has ever made me cry as much as One Piece has. While a lot of people who haven't seen/read One Piece like to say that it's just a classic "I wanna be the best" story with Luffy's goal being becoming Pirate King. But the concept of Pirate King and what it takes to become the Pirate King plays beautifully into the lore of the world, global politics, power dynamics, and what it means to truly be free. Above all else One Piece is an adventure and it takes you with it.

The best story ever told in anime/manga and one of the best in all mediums

One piece is the best epic anime/manga ever. Odd has just created a wonder. The excitement of each arc is amazing. I would recommend it to people of all categories. The jokes can give you tummy aches. About the story, alabaster arc was great. Sky Island was good too. Enies lobbies was amazing. Thriller bark was average, but contained important information. Whitebeard war arc was amazing even if it had a sad ending. Fishman Island was great. Dressrosa was like supper amazing. When Zoe is complete it will be great too. Wholecake is going on with superamazing twists. There are only few fillers with is not boring. Apart from fillers all other episodes is a must watch because it is a continuous story and each episode contains important information. The only problem I see is the video quality. Therefore I would recommend the Manga. But even when having a bad video quality it stands out in the top. People may say that it is very long but it is worth every second. Overall One piece is the ...more

Death Note Death Note is a Japanese television drama series based on the manga series of the same name by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. The show is centered around Light Yagami - a promising highschooler and aspiring detective with a strong sense of "justice".

If the quality was consistent throughout the entire show, I'd say it'd be gunning for the #1 slot. Unfortunately, things kind of take a nosedive halfway through the show after a major character is killed off.

I loved the story, I recommend some people to watch it. It's a very good anime with a good story.

It's the anime I ever seen it has a awesome story and a heart breaking ending I would recommend this to everyone

Near killed it. But this anime is easily 11/10 because Near is in maybe 1/3 (probably less) of it. Even some of those were good. 11/10 anime.

Naruto Naruto is an anime and manga franchise Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto. The manga was later adapted into a television anime, which was produced by Studio Pierrot and Aniplex. It premiered across Japan on the terrestrial TV Tokyo and other TX Network stations on October 3, 2002. The first series more.

I like nauto a lot more then the aother 2 series on top so I am disappointed that this is knot number one

It has too many fillers, but also has the most detailed stories for each character

I, a grown man, cried watching this anime. The story is beautifully written, and though there are many fillers, they also have a lot of importance within the story and some are amazing (crystal user arc). There are many characters who ALL get their time unlike a few animes where one character hogs the story. The main character is an idiot who never gave up. Naruto made me look at life differently and I believe we can all learn something from this anime. 10/10. Outstanding job Kishimoto.

Best show I ever seen in my life, this show has me addicted to it, awesome character development and the best plot ever, I wish the would make another Naruto I'm begging. I even trued hypnosis on myself to forget the series so I can watch it all over again.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is an anime series adapted from the Fullmetal Alchemist manga by Hiromu Arakawa.

All-time favorite. If you haven't watched this, you are seriously missing out. Best anime plot hands down.

Everything about brother hood is incredible. Story, characters, plot, animation. If you really don't like this anime you may need to go to the hospital cause you have something wrong with you. Sucks you in from beginning to end.

Great story - and I think this Anime is the source of Attack On Titans - Both heroes their father kept an secret - both of them volunteered in the army - Both of them have a special power but they don't know at the beginning - Both of them has traitors in their armies with special power either - both of them has brother or sister with a sad story - both of stories depends on circle maps - Both of them sit in a big giant! what a coincidence!

Attack on Titan Attack on Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese, created by Hajime Isayama, is one of the most popular Japanese anime series to be released. It was first watched in Japan during 2013 and was dubbed in English to be watched in America in 2014. It is best known for its emotional moments, more.

Although it seems pretty straightforward at first, everything you thought you know isn't true. Who's the real enemy? It's a little confusing at some points, but still really good! In season 3 part 2, you finally get the truth and IT IS SHOCKING! I'm so pumped for the 4th season!

It is my childhood dream to see attack on titans since I was in 8th standard now I am in 12th standard and I will see all the season in 2020 after 12 exam

Season one starts out as an action anime with a story that is very intriguing. The anime has great story telling, twists and character development.
Season 2 is where the anime really starts to shine though, the characters have to make difficult choices to survive, trust in people that they've just met and make hard sacrifices.

It may be somewhat cliched, but everything in this anime is executed perfectly, which makes it stunning to watch.

Cowboy Bebop Cowboy Bebop is a 1998 anime television series animated by Sunrise featuring a production team led by director Shinichirō Watanabe, screenwriter Keiko Nobumoto, character designer Toshihiro Kawamoto, mechanical designer Kimitoshi Yamane, and composer Yoko Kanno.

This is a cool list and all, but where the hell is Berserk! It is not even on the list and I think it definitely has the potential to be amongst the top 10.

My absolute favourite; just make sure you watch the movie at the right place in the series, because you absolutely must make sure that the final episode is the final thing that you watch from this amazing anime.

This should be number 1# this is hands-down the most fascinating anime ever created. This is the perfect gateway to anyone who's interested in watching anime

I think it's time we blow this stand... get everybody and their stuff together... OKAY 3 2 1 LET'S JAM

Dragon Ball Z Dragon Ball Z is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation. Dragon Ball Z follows the adventures of Goku who, along with the Z Warriors, defends the Earth against evil. The action adventures are entertaining and reinforce the concept of good versus evil. Dragon Ball Z teaches valuable more.

This thing don't even deserve to be in this list...
Dbz literally have one of the worst story ever...

It definitely has a good story line at some parts, like the whole time travel/Cell/Future Trunks thing, but that isn't why anyone watches DBZ.

Best story, best actions, best characters,... Everything's perfect.

It does not have that much of a good story but the whole anime itself is more than brilliant

Naruto Shippuden Naruto: Shippuden is the ongoing sequel to the original Naruto anime and covers the Naruto manga from volume twenty-eight on. The TV adaptation of Naruto: Shippuden debuted in Japan on February 15, 2007 on TV Tokyo. It is developed by Studio Pierrot and directed by Hayato Date.

Naruto Shippuden's potential in the story relies a lot on whether or not you've watched Naruto. But if you have, it gives many nostalgic feels during flashbacks and conflicts between characters who share a relation towards each other in the original series. I don't agree that the original series is that far away in position than this one. It just as good and maybe even better. Seeing how much the characters progressed makes it feel so achieving to have gone this far in the series. Also, the 4th Great Ninja War was such a climax it got me so excited that I could not stop watching. It's a masterpiece showing both great action and emotion in such a way that the way they pulled off the story like that seems so unbelievable. I hope it ranks much higher than this...

This should be at number 1 because it's better than one piece

Best story line ever

Someone save this world, putting shippuden under Attack on Titan and other garbage like that

Code Geass Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, often referred to as simply Code Geass, is a Japanese anime series created by Sunrise, directed by Gorō Taniguchi, and written by Ichirō Ōkouchi, with original character designs by manga authors Clamp.

WHY IS THIS NOT IN THE TOP 5? We all know that Death Note as a SERIES is overrated, One Piece and Naruto Shippuuden are stretched, Dragon Ball Z has no real plot (but still retains its place at the head of the legends' table) and only the first five and last two episodes of Cowboy Bebop actually tell you about Spike a lot (90% watch it for Spike's story, Jet's coolness, Ed's jokes and Fayes mishaps).
Sheesh seriously...

It's just too good, it ruined Anime for me, I can't watch anything else cause it can't compare to Code Geass. However I did watch Death Note right after because people said it had similarities so I might enjoy it as well. Death Note is also a great Anime until half way through but makes up for it in the end. In my opinion you should watch Death Note first so that you can't compare it to Code Geass so you can enjoy it more, than watch Code Geass.

I love this show so much. It was my second anime, my first was Naruto.

The mind games are fascinating and the plot is clearly unpredictable. All Hail Lelouch!

Sword Art Online Sword Art Online is a series of Japanese light novels written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec. In 2012, it received an anime adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures and the SAO Project, and is directed by Tomohiko Ito . The first season is divided into two arcs known as "Aincrad" and "Fairy Dance". more.

Brilliant show do feel they could of stayed with Aincrad for longer and utilised to situation to develop characters and story more but still great show

My first anime, I just want to forget that I have ever watched it and watch it again and AGAIN!

An Anime that could have been the very best if they made 50-100 episodes and developed the world they were in and the characters a lot more. But instead they rushed a lot of what was happening and kept changing things up. I could make more sense of my opinion but I don't want to ruin the show for new viewers. Still worth watching.

Overall, it's very intriguing. The storyline has many details filled with action, mystery, and romance. You get so attracted to the characters, their personalities are amazing, the animation is beautiful, it is relatable to gamers, and anyone really. I loved it, but it does kind of lose it's fire by the second season.

The Newcomers

? Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is an anime and manga franchise originally written by Hirohiko Araki. It centers around the perilous journey of the members of the legendary Joestar bloodline.

The Contenders

Gurren Lagann Gurren Lagann, known in Japan as Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, is an anime series animated by Gainax and co-produced by Aniplex and Konami. It was also directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and written by veteran playwright Kazuki Nakashima.

My favorite anime of all time. Crazy over-the-top story and animation with some of the best characters I've ever seen.

Watching this changed my life. I'll never find an anime as powerful

This one really beats the HECK out of all anime, the characters on this were GIGANTIC and POWERFUL, Even Goku was puny compared to these.

I will sum this up with just one simple question...Who the hell do you think I am?

Monster Monster (Japanese: モンスター Hepburn: Monsutā, sometimes referred to as "Naoki Urasawa's Monster") is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoki Urasawa. Monster has been critically acclaimed, with the manga having won several awards and its anime adaptation being called one of more.

Anyone who has seen Monster knows it is the number one.

Only reason this isn't near the top is because it's a long series that many people pass by on the list. Every single episode will have you on the edge of your chair, I promise.

How is this not number one? I'm not even a big anime fan, but I loved this one.

Underrated yet mind blowing... simply a master piece

Neon Genesis Evangelion Neon Genesis Evangelion, commonly referred to as Evangelion or Eva, is a Japanese animated television series produced by Gainax and Tatsunoko Production, and directed by Hideaki Anno.

Good story overall great characters religion diversity I recommend this anime

The definition of cool

Best physiological anime ever.

I didn't watch Anime for many years. This Anime gave me the feeling again, that you just want to watch it and don't care about anything else. Great Show!

Fullmetal Alchemist Fullmetal Alchemist is an anime series adapted from the manga of the same name by Hiromu Arakawa. It is about two brothers, Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric, trying to restore their bodies after failing at bringing their mother back to life. It aired in 2003 and was remade as Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood more.

Shows classic story progression and plot, in a good way. The main characters are very likable and they approach manipulation of the elements in a fresh way. I prefer Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood to the first attempt at the series because I think the plot progression is more smooth because it is following the manga. Definitely worth a watch.

I loved the plot

Probably should be number 1

My all-time favorite!

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters

Yes, yes, yes, YES! Unlike many other shows about card games (read: Pokemon) this has a plot. Every villain, every hero, every anti-hero, fits in so well with the story. Each season the duels just get bigger and better, and you can relate to all the characters (even the villains! ) and some of the events. All in all, the best anime I have watched with a great, thought-out plot. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!

At at least it has a better storyline and more tension than pokemon would probably ever get.

"Best Card Game in the World?!?! "

Best story plot everrr

Hunter x Hunter Hunter × Hunter is a manga franchise created by Yoshihiro Togashi. In 1999, Hunter × Hunter was adapted into a 62-episode anime television series produced by Nippon Animation and directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi. The show premiered on Japan's Fuji TV and ran until 2001. Three separate original video more.

Hands down, the best anime/show I have ever watched in my life. Nothing else can compare to it. I watched it 2 years ago and I still haven't found a show that is even close to as good as it.

One of the best I have seen. Story, characters, animation - everything is plain awesome

Everything is so unique in this story. The characters, the personality, the power system "nen' is the best system I have seen in all of anime. What makes Hunter X Hunter different than any other anime is that, unlike Luffy, Midoriya, or Asta, Gon Freecss, the protagonist, started off pretty well with his power. Most other characters start from the bottom and become zero-to-hero. Instead of overcoming obstacles to become the greatest, he just wants to find his dad that abandoned him when he was young. Even with his great power, he is forced to sacrifice it all for the good of someone else. Even side character can put you through oceans of tears. No anime can come close to what Hunter X Hunter has shown me. I wish I could forget everything that I watched in this anime, so I could rewatch it again to get the same feeling that I did when I first watched it. That is how amazing Hunter X Hunter is.

Excuse me? This anime got me into the anime world and it's the absolute best. Yes, I made my debut in the community from this anime. I fell in love when I read the manga and then I picked up the anime, I watched both the old one and the reboot, and nothing disappointed me. This is supposed to be in TOP 10, even the TOP 5. Masterpiece

Steins;Gate Steins;Gate is a 2011 anime television series created by the animation studio White Fox based on 5pb. and Nitroplus's 2009 video game of the same name, and is part of the Science Adventure franchise.

Couldn't watch anime for months after finishing this series. I honestly thought nothing would compare until I saw Vinland Saga, which isn't on this list at the time of writing this for some reason. Steins;Gate is still my #1

How is this not in the top ten? It blew my mind with its many plot twists and amazing character development. It had a great story, and it really drew me into the world it created.

This anime has LOADS of plot twists that you CAN NOT see coming

Best anime plot ever death note. This is a amazing work of a genius mind with a deep relation to actual science and the timeline theory making it complex and engrossing. Truly deserves to be on the top 5.

Fairy Tail Fairy Tail is a manga franchise created by Hiro Mashima. The manga has been adapted into an anime series produced by A-1 Pictures and Satelight, which began broadcasting in Japan on October 12, 2009. Additionally, A-1 Pictures and Satelight have developed seven original video animations and an animated more.

Fairy tail is such an interesting story that the more of it you watch the more you start to appreciate every character and if they seem small at first you'll realize every single person shown gets at least some story behind them and later in the show even small characters that showed up once get a link back to them I mean it heavily understands it's own Canon and keeps things linked.

Fairy Tail obviously doesn't have best storyline here. Every arc are same. Example for Natsu, every time he fight with strong opponent, he badly defeated. Then later on, when one of his friend been hurt or what so ever, he become angry and stronger. Then he defeat the opponent that have overwhelmingly power with ease. Every damn time. The power love what so ever give him strength. Well, that too irrelevant. I suspect with the power of love he can defeat God either in that anime. Honestly, fairy tail not really have a good story

Many critics regard Fairy Tail harshly about the lacking of originality of the arcs and the 'treatment' of women. But isn't One piece and Naruto and many other anime the same? The difference between the classic overly sexualized female characters and the FT girls is that these girls are pretty and kick-ass. They're independent and strong, mega strong actually. They know this and they own this. And the arcs that are criticized for having little originality, are a bit unfairly judged, in my opinion. Natsu is flamboyant and a lot of the times steals the show at fights. The 'nakama power' is not a super skill but rather his loyalty to and love of his friends drive him to stand back up and fight. And all Fairy tail member are the same in their own ways. And each arc is an adventure. The character developement is delivered in spades, albeit subtly. I guess the thing I want to say is: This series never bores.

Fairy Tail has some good elements as far as action and "The Hero's Journey" but it has some really annoying qualities that throw off the viewers. Like thecompletely unnecessary blue talking cat sidekick and the kind of disgusting over-sexualization of women so common in anime. Entertaining? Yes. A classic? Probably not.

Akame ga Kill Akame ga Kill! (アカメが斬る!, Akame ga Kiru! is a manga published in Gangan Joker authored by Takahiro and Tashiro Tetsuya. It received an anime adaptation that premiered on July 6, 2014 and ended on December 14, 2014.

It's a good depressing anime and have some great action scenes and amazing background music

Better story in the anime, than in the manga. The manga is totally crap. And everybody who brought it should known that the manga ending is crappy than ever. The anime story will be better.

Anime is horrible, does not go along with the manga

I love this anime

Elfen Lied Elfen Lied is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Lynn Okamoto. It was originally serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump from June 2002 to August 2005, with the 107 chapters collected into twelve tankōbon volumes.

Heartbreaking story but beautiful at the same time!

Love it good story

Baccano! Baccano! (バッカーノ!), which Narita translates as 'stupid commotion', is Italian for 'ruckus'. An ongoing light novel series with over twenty volumes published, it takes place across three eras – the early 1700s, 1930s, and 2000s – and presents its story arcs in anachronistic fashion. Though more.

Best ending in an anime ever. Yes, even better than my favorite anime, Cowboy Bebop.

Watch this anime, I mean it, it is one of the best anime ever created! - Skyrim1275

Love this! great plot.

I think,in terms of Plot, Baccano's is one of the best. it's solid and consisting...Especially if we keep in mind all the different characters, each with his/her own story, and the beauty of it is that we don't fully understand everything until the very end.
it's been years since I watched this (never read the LN), but I still remember everything in it...

Dragon Ball Super Dragon Ball Super is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation that began airing on July 5, 2015. It is a sequel show to the Dragon Ball manga and the first Dragon Ball television series featuring a new storyline in 18 years.

The anime of DB SUPER is way better than the manga story.

is this a meme

Kill la Kill Kill la Kill is an anime television series produced by Trigger. In Kill la Kill, Ryuko Matoi transfers to a new high school in order to find her father's murderer.

Its should be in top 10 it has amazing story

Rurouni Kenshin Rurouni Kenshin Wiki is a collaborative website about the series 'Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story' (るろうに剣心 明治剣客浪漫譚, Rurōni Kenshin Meiji Kenkaku Rōmantan), also known as 'Rurouni Kenshin' and 'Samurai X'. more.

One of my favorite shows. It follows history perfectly, the sword fights are just perfect, as well as a love story that isn't rushed.

Maybe this too soft but this is an anime with a good purpose, and I remember the honor and friendship kenshin taught me when I was a kid

Heart touching!

Its been 3 months since I completed the show and I still get goosebumps every time I hear anything related. Starts of as an almost comedy like show but the further u go the characters go. Also, maby the best ova's ever.

Mobile Suit Gundam

My childhood anime! Still loved it till this day. The character, the original sound track, the plot and everything.

Love this series
