Anime You Hate Yet Everyone Else Loves

Ever hated a certain anime series but everyone you know won't stop praising how good it is? To the point where you're just sitting there, wondering if you missed something. These are my choices and you're free to add in your own.
The Top Ten
1 Sonic X Sonic X is a Japanese anime television series created by TMS Entertainment and based on the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series published by Sega.

Yeah, this anime should be called Chris X. Because it's not about Sonic but mostly about Chris. The reason he is in this anime is because he's supposed to be the everyday kid that children can relate to. There's already a problem with that. He's not relatable. He lives in a mansion, his mother is movie star, his father is a politician, his grandpa is a scientist, he has a butler and a maid too. I don't know anybody like that. Then the characters from the games weren't portrayed well. Sonic was just a flawless hero that everyone adored, Tails was the smart one, Amy was annoying, Eggman was evil, Knuckles was the tough guy and instead of taking place in Sonic's world, we're stuck on Earth. Wow, that sounds exactly like the Smurf's. Now I'm getting nightmares all over again. The rabid fans of Sonic X also became obnoxious from their recolored fan art to tons of bad fanfiction. I would advise you to never look any of that up. It's just awful.

2 Diabolik Lovers Diabolik Lovers is a Japanese visual novel franchise by Rejet. The first game was released on October 11, 2012 for the PlayStation Portable. Three more games have been released since them with the first two games having been ported for the PlayStation Vita with the subtitle "Limited V Edition".

The franchise has brought forth two 12-episode television anime adaptations by Zexcs, the first of... read more

I finished sitting through Season 2 and somehow, this anime is even worse. I thought if it gained a plot, it would be more enjoyable. But nope. It's the same plot with different guys wanting Yui. How original. The first season was already a giant pile of nothing. The characters were written to all be unlikable as they can be, the story committed suicide in the first episode, the pacing was way too slow and the romance is about as romantic as Twilight. Speaking of Twilight, these vampires are just as pathetic as those ones. They don't have problems with sunlight, they can eat food, crosses don't harm them, etc. Just call these things horny freaks and I would buy it. Yet I've seen many comments and messages defending this anime. Just because the boys had a terrible past. You can't just validate everything someone does with a tragic past. There's so many characters who had tragic backstories but they learn to be there own character without the sad past. For example, Crona from Soul Eater. He had a tragic past but he was his own character first. He didn't know how to socialize with people, he writes poems to feel better, he'll defend Maka because they're friends and tries to get over everything bad that happened to him. Light Yagami had a good past but ended up being evil. He's one of the few main anime characters I think of that have both parents and a sister. The creator himself said he would have grown to work as a good detective. But the power of the Death Note corrupted him and molded him into something else. You understood why he did things he did at the beginning but eventually he slowly lost his humanity. Then you understand that power can corrupt anyone and we saw that through Light. You can't just use 'tragic backstory' as an excuse for lazy writing and poor character development. Make them their own character first and then focus on their backstories.

3 Sword Art Online Sword Art Online is a series of Japanese light novels written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec. In 2012, it received an anime adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures and the SAO Project, and is directed by Tomohiko Ito . The first season is divided into two arcs known as "Aincrad" and "Fairy Dance". It has also received a second season, titled Sword Art Online II.

I'm sorry but I just don't like this anime. I've tried to like it but I just can't. The premise was interesting, the soundtrack is good and the animation looks like. However, everything else fell flat for me. The pacing ruined the first season. The timeskip created a large plot hole. Like why wasn't the government able to hack in and save everyone in the game? I saw Kirito do that in the episode Yui's Heart. So why couldn't they? Then there's inconsistencies with the video game aspects of it. There were small problems like how Illusion Magic can be used in the Fairy Dance Arc but they never use it again. Then there's big stuff like how the nerve gear works. You can't feel pain in the game. The reason why when a character winces from pain, it's a psychological reaction. Yet if you can't feel pain, why can you feel pleasure when having sex, taste food or feel cold? Then the characters are the biggest downfall of this series. From the generic badly written villains to the generic heroes. Kirito was written way too much like a gary stu. Gary stu is the male counterpart to a Mary stu. A Mary stu is: an idealized and seemingly perfect fictional character, a young or low-rank person who saves the day through unrealistic abilities. That is Kirito's personality as a whole. You're supposed to care for him but why? Just because he's the hero? Heroes need to be written well in order for me to like them. Especially since he wins all the time and you never care whether or not he's going to lose because he's only lost once in season 2. And the fight wasn't even important. It wasn't like when he went up against Kayaba. The again that fight had problems too. His health was at zero, then he won. Because of sheer will apparently. Uh, I thought the nerve gear kills you when your health is at zero. Kirito never changes or develops a personality throughout the anime. Even when people are being killed, in the next episode, he never talks about it. It's like all the trauma he's endured... more

4 Pokemon Pokémon, abbreviated from the Japanese title of Pocket Monsters and currently advertised in English as Pokémon: The Series, is a Japanese anime television series, which has been adapted for the international television markets. It was first broadcast in Japan on April 1, 1997, in the United States on September 8, 1998.

When will this anime end? It probably won't be over by the time I'm dead. This anime has just been a burden to sit through. The plot is the same thing from the first episode of Pokemon. Ash wants to be a Pokemon Master. That's the plot in seven words. Ash himself isn't interesting. He never really talks about his previous journeys from the past. Remember when he was the Chosen One on the second movie? That doesn't matter anymore apparently. Or how he lost a previous friend from Lucario & The Mystery of Mew? Never spoken of again. His sidekicks, which is what they are, are one dimensional. From Iris calling Ash a kid, Cilan kept talking about food and Serena...is just not a good character. What can I say about this anime that hasn't been said a million times before? The fights aren't interesting, the story is the same thing as always, the villains aren't very threatening and it's the same thing from the games. Except the games are enjoyable because it's your story. You can choose what you want and the characters in the games are much better then the anime. I'm not saying that a Pokemon anime is bad. I'm saying this same Pokemon anime that's been going on is bad. Pokemon Origins showed us that the world of Pokemon is an exciting place. It can be written well, be intense and make us feel what it means to be a trainer. The original Pokemon anime however just needs to end. Reboot the series, create more OVA's, make more games but don't make more of this anime.

5 The Asterisk War Known in Japan as "Gakusen Toshi Asterisk," this anime series debuted in 2015 and is based on a light novel by Yuu Miyazaki. It features a world where individuals with magical abilities compete in battles at an academy. Known for its high-octane action scenes and harem elements, the series received mixed reviews but has a dedicated fan base.

A Sword Art Online rip off. That is somehow even worse. Every character in here is pure cliche. The Gary Stu male, the tsundere female lead, the deadpan girl, the shy girl, the girl with a large chest, the bully becoming good and the protective older sibling. I described everyone on the poster in cliches, I feel depressed. The world itself isn't very enjoyable either. It's another cliche school for special people with a tournament happening. Gosh, when RWBY can make a much more enjoyable school and tournament arc, you know you have a problem. I'm not saying RWBY is bad but it's an internet web series. It doesn't have the same budget as this anime and yet RWBY had a much more interesting concept. The story doesn't even exist. Someone's trying to kill Julius but she doesn't care because fanservice is more important to this anime. The tournament wasn't very good. It's people fighting lesser people, the hero always wins, when you think the hero won't win, he still wins and our tournament is over. I know I keep saying cliche but it's the perfect word for this anime. From the weapons making the exact same noises like lightsabers, the lead getting a harem while having no personality, the bad guys always lose when the male lead is present and the story being pushed back for more filler. This is just a waste of time that I say stay away from. Don't let pretty animation distract you because this anime is garbage.

6 Vampire Knight Vampire Knight is a Japanese shōjo manga series written by Matsuri Hino. The series premiered in the January 2005 issue of LaLa magazine and officially ended in May of 2013. Chapters were collected and published in collected volumes by Hakusensha, concluding with nineteen volumes released in Japan.

If you want to sit through an anime that's boring. This is one I recommend. People say this is what Twilight should have been. No, this Twilight fanfiction with a budget. No, I'm not talking about Fifty Shades of Grey. Honestly this anime was pretty boring. I thought this could be interesting with the concept but this anime, no joke meanders more then any anime I've ever sat through. I know Naruto is infamous for it's filler but at least some of the filler episodes were trying something new and trying to be enjoyable. Sometimes it failed but you can tell they tried. In Vampire Knight, it's the same filler. Ninety percent of the episode is about Yuki with her love triangle and the ten percent is the story. The love triangle itself isn't very interesting. I prefer Maid Sama or Ouran Highschool Host Club. The characters themselves aren't very good. Yuki's whole role is to be a Mary Sue. She's there for the female to pretend to be. Since she has no personality herself, the readers can just pretend to be her. The two males are much more developed then her. But they both suffer from one problem. Why do they love Yuki? She's not very relatable and I can't think of anything she likes. Even Edward Cullen liked playing baseball, what does Yuki have as a hobby? I don't know. The side characters are just there to look nice. They don't have much in the way of personalities. They're stereotypes, not even good ones. One guy is a ladies man, a female is the jealous one and there's a vampire hunter who is prejudiced against vampires and you get the picture. So here's a spoiler, who does Yuki choose? Zero or Kaname? She chooses both of course! Yeah, the fans hated this and so did I. The one reason we kept going back to the manga was to see who Yuki would choose. Guess what? She has a child with both of them. Kaname falls into a deep slumber and lets Zero take care of her. Wow, what a terrible ending. At least in the manga for Maid Sama or Ouran Highschool Host Club, the female leads... more

7 Danmachi Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (Japanese: ダンジョンに出会いを求めるのは間違っているだろうか, Hepburn: Danjon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darō ka), also known as DanMachi (ダンまち) for short, and with English subtitle Familia Myth, is a Japanese light novel series written by Fujino Ōmori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda. How many of these harem series have I watched? Too many. This anime is also called: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Yeah, I bet you can guess what's wrong with this anime. It's a harem series that seems like a spinoff of SAO. Yet unlike SAO where certain things that happened in the anime made sense because they take place inside a video game, this anime isn't. This anime takes place in the real world but it has bosses in dungeons like in a video game. Why? Why is there a boss? There's no reason as to why it's even there. Then this anime rips off Attack On Titan by having a boss like Titan Eren. Then later on in the series, that same boss has different colored skin and hair? Why? How? Who cares? The lead is once again a dull generic lead that has hot females always with him. Hestia is a tsundere secretly in love with our lead, I'm serious. It's almost like SAO. The only other thing that stands out about her is the outfit she wears. the ribbon around her is only purposely there to show off her chest. Any more proof this anime is nothing but a harem? Welf was one of the only other male characters that was prominent in the series. The only other male I can think of is that Gimli rip off. This anime is just a mix of the bad stuff from Sword Art Online and the Asterick War.

8 Amnesia Amnesia is a Japanese visual novel series by Idea Factory. It was first released on August 18, 2011 for PlayStation Portable, and then a fan disc in Japan, Amnesia Later, was released on March 15, 2012. Another sequel titled Amnesia Crowd was released on April 18, 2013. They were later combined for a PlayStation Vita release titled "Amnesia Later x Crowd V Edition" on October 16, 2014.

A reverse harem series that I watched. The art work looked fantastic and I was curious to see what it could do. However, this anime proves that just because there's a pretty art style, it won't make the anime good. The plot was all over the place and then sometimes it dragged like snail trying to carry a textbook. The main lead herself way beyond boring. If there's a word for that, the image you should use is this woman. Do you want to know what her name is? It's Heroine. Yes, she is named after the female counterpart of hero. That's how fresh out of ideas this anime is. Then every male is in love with her because she's pretty and nice. Traits that can be used for almost any romantic series. But this also makes the female lead a Mary Stu. Honestly this anime was just like getting through homework. You don't want to finish it but you have to. This anime wasn't fun. The soundtrack and art style are the only good things about it. The males were stererotypes of stereotypes, the female lead has the personality of a brick, the story would either slow down or just speed past you and the romance wasn't very romantic. It was just a long anime that I wouldn't be surprised if I had fallen asleep while watching.

9 Akame ga Kill Akame ga Kill! (アカメが斬る!, Akame ga Kiru! is a manga published in Gangan Joker authored by Takahiro and Tashiro Tetsuya. It received an anime adaptation that premiered on July 6, 2014 and ended on December 14, 2014.

I never thought I would see reverse plot armor done wrong. This anime did it though. This anime tries to be edgy. Daria's definition of edgy sums up the 'maturity' of this anime. "As far as I can make out, "edgy" occurs when middlebrow, middle-aged profiteers are looking to suck the energy - not to mention the spending money - out of the "youth culture." So they come up with this fake concept of seeming to be dangerous when every move they make is the result of market research and a corporate master plan." That describes this anime perfectly. It tries to be dark and hardcore but it fails at every turn. There's a character who has a hole in his chest and you can see out the back. Yet he's still able to speak a sentence before he dies? There's edgy and then there's bad logic. Or how about the reverse plot armor I mentioned earlier? Plot Armor: When a main character's life and health are safeguarded by the fact that he's the one person who can't be removed from the story. Yet this anime does the opposite. Any character can die at given time. Yet they always seem to die when they reveal their backstory. There is seriously one character who tells her backstory and then dies five minutes later. What's the point in liking these characters, when you know they're going to die and that they only die for pure shock value? Not to help develop or progress the story but just for pure shock. Akame is strong yet silent, Sheele is clumsy, Mine has a temper, Lubbock is a pervert, Leone is playful yet tough and Tatsumi is a Gary Stu. Seriously, one of the lead members of the Jaegars is in love with him despite her trying to kill his team. Then there's Seryu. She's easily one of the worst characters in this show. This characters is supposed to be gray character with a twisted mortality. Yet it's never handled well. She does all the horrible things she does in the name of justice. Yet it's never really clear why she does all of these horrible actions? One character even calls her out... more

10 Yugioh Zexal Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal is a Japanese manga and anime series and the the fourth Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series, as well as the third main spin-off series of the franchise. The manga began serialization in Shueisha's V-Jump magazine from December 2010 and is licensed in North America by Viz Media.

I don't know why some people try to save this anime when it's obvious what it is. Another cash grab on the popular Yugioh franchise. Konami would have gone bankrupt if it wasn't for this series. So they keep making more, for there video games. The male lead is worthless. He's supposed to be our new male lead of the Yugioh series. He's got a lot to live up to. The original and the last lead were some of the best characters in this series. Yet they take fifty steps backward by not only making him a complete moron but a useless one al that. He wants to be the world's greatest duelist (how original) yet he doesn't know how to duel properly. He doesn't know how double duels work, how his monster Gogogo Golem works (stupid name and we hear it's special ability all the time) and he doesn't even know how to properly use Monster Reborn. The only reason he wins duels is because of his amnesiac friend Astral is smart. Yes, he has amnesia and yet he knows how to duel. Smart, so smart. Then the other characters are either decent but don't get enough screen time or are cardboard cut outs of other characters. Tori is childhood friend who has a crush on Yuma, Cathy likes Yuma, Anna likes Yuma (yeah harem alert), Bronk is the best friend, Caswell is smart and Flip is mischievous. Then there's problems like with the filler episodes. Most of these duels happen because of a misunderstanding that could have been solved in a few sentences. So it's not only filler but pointless filler. One episode revolves around Anna getting revenge on Yuma for not seeing her before she left. Then Tori reveals at the end of the episode, that it was someone else. Rio think her brother Shark wants her to date Yuma and she doesn't want him to make her own choices. Then it turns out he never said that at all and the article online was a lie. The story does have two decent villains Vector and Vetrix. Both of which have V's in their name. Plus Shark and Kite are pretty good rivals and Astral is a witty... more

11 One Piece One Piece is a manga franchise created by Eiichiro Oda. The manga has been adapted into an original video animation (OVA) produced by Production I.G in 1998, and an anime series produced by Toei Animation, which began broadcasting in Japan in 1999 and has aired 851 episodes to date.

I need an opinion, I was thinking of watching One Piece, is it worth it? It's hellishly long but it's the only shonen anime out of it and Fairy Tail that I have some interest it trying out.

12 Re/Zero: Starting Life In Another World

I can't understand how people like this garbage. I HATE it! Subaru is stupid and annoying, and I don't give a fudge about Emilia who holds as much importance as a background character. Why are people saying it's the best anime of 2016? This show is bad enough to give HIV to someone. No offense to anyone who likes it, just saying my opinion.

I tried it out, not fond of it. I feel like the psychological horror aspect is a bit too forced. Also I can't find myself to care what happens to Subaru because of how embarrassing and idiotic his character can be.

13 Puella Magi Madoka Magica Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a 2011 Japanese anime television series produced by Shaft and Aniplex, directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, written by Gen Urobuchi, music by Yuki Kajiura, opening sang by ClariS, ending by Kalafina (sometimes by the seiyuus) and original characters by Ume Aoki.
14 Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans
15 RWBY RWBY is an American 3D web series created by Monty Oum for Rooster Teeth. The show is set in the fictional world of Remnant, where young people train to become Huntsmen and Huntresses to protect their world from the creatures of Grimm.
16 Death Note Death Note is a Japanese television drama anime series based on the manga series of the same name by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. The show is centered around Light Yagami - a promising highschooler and aspiring detective with a strong sense of "justice".

Is it bad that I never gave a crap about Death Note? I wouldn't be able to enjoy it now if I even try to watch it since my offline friends spoiled the show entirely because they kept ranting on how L died.

It's good up until L dies, then it just goes very downhill.

Oh and do not get me started on Misa!

17 Naruto Shippuden Naruto: Shippuden is the ongoing sequel to the original Naruto anime and covers the Naruto manga from volume twenty-eight on. The TV adaptation of Naruto: Shippuden debuted in Japan on February 15, 2007 on TV Tokyo. It is developed by Studio Pierrot and directed by Hayato Date.

I hate this show so much! The characters are horrible and boring, Naruto has those 3 lines on each side of his face, is he some cat ninja. The show is full of cliche lines like: "Hiding in the woods, eh" and "I've got to get away from here and fast"!

Many of my friends enjoy this. I used to like Naruto but I got fed up of how long and drawn out the battles were so I stopped watching it.

18 Soul Eater Not

This is a terrible sequel to Soul Eater...I felt like I got ripped off.

19 Boku No Pico Boku no Pico is an anime series of three OVA episodes created by Katsuhiko Takayama. It was released to DVD on September 17, 2006.
20 Chaos Dragon

Oh this anime is pretty poor. Yet I heard from some, that it's so bad, it's good. I just think it's bad because of how terrible everything is.

21 Nagi No Asukara Nagi no Asu Kara (凪のあすから) is a 2013 Japanese anime television series produced by P.A. Works. The series centers around two junior-high school friends, the indecisive crybaby Manaka Mukaido and Hikari Sakishima, who has looked after her since they were children.

It was just... boring really, the art is good, the ost is good, but the plots, the characters... the only one I liked was Uroko-sama literally.

22 Wolf Girl and Black Prince

Yeah this anime has a terrible couple that it centers around. A manipulative girl who is desperate for friends, a cold hearted man who uses her as a dog and a romance that shouldn't be supported if this was real life.

I don't even think the male lead is very attractive...

23 Jigoku Shoujo

And they even prepare another season years after it been finished. All the episode are the same while it had so much potential. It's always a victim of a bully who is forced to use the spell to be free. It have nothing interesting to get from that except in headache because how stupid the characters are. Hell, once, a student sent her teacher in hell just because she thought he took notes of student's bad behaviour. Plot twist : It wasn't. And it was stupid.

24 Brothers Conflict

Where molesting your step sister is romantic.

25 Black Butler Black Butler is a Japanese anime television series produced by A-1 Pictures. It premiered in October, 2008. It was based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Yana Toboso. The series follows Ciel Phantomhive, the twelve-year-old Earl of Phantomhive serving as the Queen's Watchdog. He is tasked with solving crimes in the underworld of Victorian-era London. Ciel has formed a contract... read more
