Wow this is wayyy too low on the list. It may not be my all time favorite, but I was seriously blown away by this series. At first I thought maybe I was stepping out of my comfort zone, as I've never watched an anime centered around girl characters before, but this show was so easy to get into, and I couldn't get it out of my mind for like a week afterwards. It's short and focused, everything seems to have a purpose, and it is not at all the schoolgirl, slice of life moe that you might be expecting. In fact I've seen this show compared to the likes of Neon Genesis Evangelion (which is in my opinion better, but come on, it's a classic! ) and the comparison is not without merit. This show's a mind, and has some seriously conflicted characters, and pretty dark undertones. Great animation, great characters, easy to access plot, and the soundtrack. The music is done by Yuki Kajiura, who did the music for other shows like Sword Art Online and Fate/Zero, so expect more of the same epicness ...more

This is one of the greatest anime ever made. The series takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride that does not stop. When I finished it, I did not even know how to feel. It may be slightly disturbing at times, but this feeling of disturbance you will come to love. The pacing, character development, and story is spot on, and do not get me started on the animation. Well, I just did. The animation is better than any anime I have ever seen, by far. The artists put a lot of time into this show, and as a viewer, hopefully you will be amazed at the gorgeous shots and the creative styles that are used to share the world of Madoka. This anime did not make me cry, but there is something deeper than tears that are shed... In my heart.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Please see Puella Magi Madoka Magica (especially the 3rd movie Rebellion, but only after you have watched the main series! )

Madoka Magica reinvents and transforms any previous notions of what a magical girl anime should be. It provokes the feelings of grief, loss, determination, and many more, delving into a deeper side of the human mind as well as presenting a very real and honest take on the genre. The characters are well thought out, the music is amazing, and the story flows extremely well; each episode is better than the last. Overall, this anime is extraordinarily well done and worthy of a watch, or a hundred.

I am surprised to find it this low O. N the list. At first it looks like a regular magical girl animes, but its nothing like that. Characters might be cute, but that doesn't mean that it's a cute anime. Each character has a deep personality, and even if you only saw him/her once, you already know a lot about him/her. It has many plot twists, an original story and heartbreaking moments. Even though it has only 12 episodes, it accomplished what many animes did not. It has grear soundtracks, songs and the voice acting is great, because it fits into the characters personality. It truly is a gem between magical animes. Great animation nly makes it better. It is an unique experience.

The only reason this is lower than the rest is because people haven't seen it. Now, granted, I haven't seen everything above this, but you'd have to color me surprised if anything above this could manage to boot this out of the top 5. It's well-developed, it's incredibly philosophical, it speaks right to the heart, it blows you across the room with the brilliantly executed plot twists, and it instills the sense of existential contemplation that only brilliant stories can invoke. It may be not only the best anime out there, but the best story too.

I binged watch the entire anime series on my birthday. And boy, was that a great way to spend my birthday. Puella Magi Madoka Magica pulls no punches when it comes to the darkness that the series holds. It looks all cute and innocent at first for the first two episodes, but after that, the anime pulls you straight in and shows its true colors, presenting the same ride of dark storytelling and tragedy from Gen Urobuchi, the same writer who wrote the light novels for Fate/Zero, another dark anime series. Only 12 episodes, and this anime is bound to pull you in once the first death comes along. - ModernSpongeBobSucks

Wow.. Why is this so low on the list. I suspect there's a lot of people that watched the first 2 or 3 episodes and stop, thinking it's a girly girly anime only for young girls to watch.. But it really isn't! Don't judge this anime by the first few episodes. Its deep. Its dark. Its unforgettable. Its flawless. The characters.. The story.. Its amazing! Definitely one of the best animes of all-time!

While many might think that this anime is the result of a bad acid trip, I for one can't forget the beautiful animation, captivating story, and characters that reminded me why I fell in love with anime in the first place. Can't wait for the movie!

Why is Madoka so low? Wow, people on the Internet watch crap nowadays.
I really liked it. Please, don't watch scenes or trailers that will spoil the plot. Watch it without knowing too much. I knew the deaths and the sad things that were going to occur. I still liked the anime but if you want feels, watch it without asking from other people. The art is so good. This is my number ONE. I really like the opening, even though the ending gave me the thrills

More complex writing and creative plot than most real life shows out there, it grabs you with its cutesy art style and playful conversations between madoka and her family and friends until it slowly reveals itself and suddenly there comes the shocker and it goes from 10 to 100 in 1 second. Best anime in my list.

Too many people think "Oh look, another common magical girl anime" but no. This is not your ordinary magical girl anime. This is my favourite anime and there are so many turns, you'll never suspect what happens at the end without spoilers. This is not your ordinary magical girl anime and definitely watch it. - Catameow

This is one of the best short animes out there. This was my first anime, and honestly, it's amazing. It's got a short storyline that gets straight to the point, without filler episodes. It's really emotional, and you can't help but feel a deeper connection with the characters.

Simply put it is a tremendously well crafted narrative that is nearly leaving faults. Excellent, story characters, themes, symbols, music, animation and emotion. While many will judge it by its cover, they are missing out on a masterpiece.

Probably one of the saddest anime in existence you fell depressed for the characters in a very good way, but bear in mine not for anyone the simple minded or logical plot loving person will have trouble with this one

How does this rank only 60? Below Charlottle and Angel Beats, really...? This is easily one of the best 20 animes of all time considering how ridiculously successful and well-invested it was, and also remember, it's an ORIGINAL anime, with a super old concept : cute magical girls running around fighting monsters, but in a super unique, creative and hard to forget style.

I fell in LOVE with this anime. Gut-wrenching plots and bittersweet results made this anime only second to Angel Beats! On my list, and Angel Beats! Was only on the top 'cause I found it first.

Think of what Nolan's Batman trilogy did to the superhero genre. Madoka Magica did the same to magical girl genre. Darkness, grit, death and despair prevail, with a single beacon of bittersweet hope in the end.

One of the greatest anime I've ever watch. The characters are realistic and lovable, the story line is original and powerful, the backgrounds are amazing and the soundtrack is absolutely beautiful. This anime completely turns over the magical girl genre. This is a must-wathc.

The single most amazing, heart-rending, and powerful anime I have ever watched. I've aleady seen the series two times, and the second time was only better than the first time. I wept my heart out at the end, too; even the heartless are unable to not shed a tear. PM is, hands down, the best anime of all time. To not watch it would be a sin.

Madoka Magica is amazing! At first it seems like your typical conventional girly cute magical girl anime. But honestly, it's a lot more. There's tons of twists, deaths, time skipping, tragedy. I kinda lost interest in most anime, but this is one I could definitely watch and rewatch forever.

This anime is AMAZING. I can warn you though, it's no ordinary magical girl anime. It has amazing character development, a great plot, and a good sized fan base. Please watch it, it is amazing.

I don't know why people don't like this anime! It's a good mix of sad, happy and funny! (The funny is very little) the opening is very good! I would highly recommend this anime.

The bets anime I have ever seen, I honestly feel that the only reason that anybody might not like it is if they didn't watch the whole thing, which is a horrible mistake.

The best anime I ever watched. Incredible story, amazing art-style, characters you get attached to easily and lots of effort put into details such as Faustian references which are all over the place.

Also as hard as I tried, I couldn't find anything wrong with the series that would prevent me from giving it a 10/10.

I just can't believe HotD is in top of this one... I really found this to be one of the best animes I've ever seen, I'd give it a 9 out of 10.

I mean is no masterpiece, but it is clearly more beautifully crafted than many others.

Still to this time, Madoka stands as my favourite anime. I hope more people could give it a chance...
