Top Ten Bands that are Both Good and Overrated

The Top Ten

1 Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin were an English rock band formed in London in 1968. The group consisted of Robert Plant (Vocal), Jimmy Page (Guitar), John Paul Jones (Bass, Keyboard) and John Bonham (Drums). The band's heavy, guitar-driven sound, rooted in blues and psychedelia on their early albums, has earned them recognition more.

I like they first and second album ( don't care if there are lot of covers on it, their cover versions are pretty good and very refreshing ). After that ( in my opinion ) it went downwards ( still good but not that good at the same time ) for the next three albums. After their fifth album it became boring ( even in concert ) and that's also when this band became very overrated. Why? Because the freshness, the sound, rawness etc... became mainstream. And we all know that it is the mainstream-music buying public who're overrating their favorite band. Jimmy Page? Great guitarist ( nevertheless also very overrated ) but also a very arrogant stuck-up person. He did claim that he was the main guitarist at the recording sessions in the sixties for The Who, The Kinks, Them etc... when he became famous. Researchs and claims of Pete Townsend, Ray and Dave Davies and many others all said that he was lying, that he wants to take credits for things that are not true ( he was at the sessions but ...more

Led Zeppelin is overrated, but their songs are good. Even if these are plagiarized - zxm

Place 1 - a good choice. - Strobo

Yes, definitely #1. It became clear that they weren't even that good - I mean, all their multiple ripoffs. So the gap between their quality and worship they get widens, i.e. they are even more overrated than people imagine. - Metal_Treasure

2 AC/DC AC/DC AC/DC are a Australian hard rock band, formed in November 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, who continued as members until Malcolm's illness and departure in 2014. They were fronted by Bon Scott until his untimely death due to alcohol poisoning in 1980, after which they hired Brian Johnson to more.

To me it's the nr. 2 after Led Zeppelin. All of their songs sounds the same. - somekindofaguy

Wasn't they here? many people claim they are one of the best metal bands. while they aren't - zxm

3 Queen Queen Queen are an English rock band formed in 1970. Members were Freddie Mercury (Vocals and Piano), Brian May (Guitar, Vocals), Roger Taylor (Drums, Vocals), and John Deacon (Bass Guitar, Vocals). Before forming into Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had played together in a band named Smile. Freddie Mercury more.

Compared to the other rock bands of the 70s and 80s Queen are even underrated - they were actually more innovative and creative than some more popular bands. Queen songs were more complex and difficult, and Queen even created the first thrash metal song (Stone Cold Crazy). - Metal_Treasure

Queen is NOT overrated! If they have good songs and heaps of people like them, that doesn't mean there overrated. - micahisthebest

Queen is the very definition of over-rated.

Way overrated, too much overpraised, and totally overplayed.

4 Nirvana Nirvana Nirvana was an American grunge band that was formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. Nirvana disbanded after Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994. The drummer of the band, David Grohl, went on to start the Foo-Fighters, an alternative rock band. more.

Cool but too loud for my ears. Good & Overrated - Yep! - Strobo

"Good & Overrated" not just plain overrated. Nirvana doesn't qualify. - 12cc

Good, but not the greatest band of all time - ListElla

Alice and Chains and Soundgarden are both light years ahead of Nirvana in terms of creativity, lyrics and riffs. Most Nirvana fans are rather annoying in that they claim to love them but only know one song (we all know the one). At least AIC and SG fans can actually name several songs by each band.

5 Guns n Roses Guns n Roses Guns N' Roses is an American hard rock band from Los Angeles formed in 1985. The classic lineup, as signed to Geffen Records in 1986, consisted of vocalist Axl Rose, lead guitarist Slash, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin, bassist Duff McKagan, and drummer Steven Adler. Apart from hard rock they are also more.

Mentally unstable since childhood due to severe abuse, Axl Rose managed to somehow put down a few good tracks 25 years ago, but has sucked since then.

6 The Beatles The Beatles The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were soon known as the foremost and most influential act of rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented more.

Hendrix 's music is simple and easy to play, tons of 14 year olds can do it, but to quote Joe Satriani, "I know exactly what Hendrix did, but I have NO IDEA how he thought of it". Same with the Beatles, tons of people can play their music, and untold thousands have tried to follow their path into the pop/rock history, and have mostly failed, or simply pale by comparison. To paraphrase Bill Clinton: "It's the writing, stupid".

Hendrix's music is simple to play? tons of 14 year olds can do it? Where are they? I would like to see if at concert they will be able to play 30 minutes solos in improvisation style like Hendrix did. That's certainly not like stupid Bill Clinton once said : " It's (only) in the writing ". As for The Beatles, they didn't do in improvisation but to compose ( or writing as you called it ) " IS " to invent music that wasn't there, the abillity to play a new sound in music and not the abillity to copy a existing sound in music. And both Hendrix and The Beatles were unique in inventing " their " sounds and play them. It's not only in the playing what makes people like Hendrix and The Beatles overrated but good ( in fact your statement ), it's more simple, they're NOT overrated and they're good ( in playing and writing ).

They are the biggest selling music artist of all time, i.e. the average music fan rates them 10/10 and pays for their songs as if they are 10/10. Is their stuff for 10/10 though? Not sure - their songs are pretty simple and not difficult to play but even their best solo is played by Eric Clapton who isn't a band member. Is their drummer the best drummer of all time? No. Are their singers the best singers of all time? No...Well, you got the idea - they are good but not that good, i.e. very overrated. - Metal_Treasure

The biggest selling music artist of all time, with the most successful musician of all time [McCartney] as a member, the biggest act of any kind in the history of show business.
Exactly how can that be over-rated?

Many users of this site don't understand or acknowledge the impact and influence The Beatles had. Many do; several don't. Nor do they understand the concept of overrated - it's not about whether one or a few don't agree with the appropriate regard. - Billyv

7 Metallica Metallica Metallica is an American Thrash Metal band formed in 1981 . The original lineup was James Hetfield (Vocalist and Rhythm guitarist), Dave Mustaine (Lead Guitar), Lars Ulrich (Drums), Ron McGovney (Bassist). The group came into mainstream from their Self-Titled album and the hit single "Enter Sandman". more.

Most overrated metal band of all time. Still good though.

Kill Em All up to (and including) And Justice For All are great. Black Album, Death Magnetic and HOPEFULLY Hardwired are decent. But no band that has released anything as awful as St. Anger should ever be crowned the greatest metal band ever. Then again Iron Maiden did release the godawful Virtual XI...

Agreed here. - zxm

Only good, not overrated. come on! Metallica is one of the best metal bands. - Strobo

I think they should be number one, everyone talks how great they are but it's mostly their first two albums, and a few hits after that. They have some great songs but overrated if you look at all their work.

9 Red Hot Chili Peppers Red Hot Chili Peppers The Red Hot Chili Peppers is an American funk-rock and alternative rock band, that was founded in 1983. more.

Megadeth was formed in 1983 by guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson, shortly after Mustaine was fired from Metallica. Started great with six stellar albums in a row, then fell into a pit of mediocrity for about 2 decades. Their new album is pretty damn good though.

12 Radiohead Radiohead Radiohead are an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke (lead vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments), Colin Greenwoood (bass guitar), Phil Selway (drums), and Ed O'Brien (guitar).

The band is known for their graphic album covers, explicitly violent lyrics and song titles like "I C** Blood" The group got into mainstream after performing the song "Hammer Smashed Face" in the 1994 film Ace Ventura: more.

Not really overrated. Lots of people dislike em because their lyrics are gross. Get past the lyrics however and Cannibal Corpse becomes a fun, consistent death metal band with great riffs. Plus, they were very influential for many other death metal bands.

15 Black Sabbath Black Sabbath Black Sabbath were a Heavy Metal band formed in Birmingham, England in 1968 by guitarist and songwriter Tony Iommi, Singer Ozzy Osbourne, Bassist and Main Lyricist Geezer Butler and Drummer Bill Ward. The band got into mainstream after improving after their debut album got negative feedback. In 1978, more.

Unfortunately, the internet pages really exaggerated the role of Black Sabbath in the metal history. They weren't that influental as everyone think. Even DP was more influental:

Now try to tell me a heavy metal, yeah, HEAVY, not DOOM metal song from the later era that sounds like inspired by these songs:

Iron Man
Black Sabbath
The Wizard

And now, try to tell me songs that are sounds like inspired by Hard Lovin' Man by Deep Purple. You have more ideas, right? - somekindofaguy

Only con of their band is geddy lee doesn't have a good voice - zxm
