Bands That Are Considered Metal But Are Really Not

We all know at least one band that gets falsely accused of being metal, so in this list, I will be going over those bands. Feel free to add any I missed.

1 Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin was an English hard rock band formed in London in 1968 as the New Yardbirds. The group consisted of Robert Plant (Vocal), Jimmy Page (Guitar), John Paul Jones (Bass, Keyboard) and John Bonham (Drums) and was very much the child of Jimmy Page who even financed their first tour. He had tasted some previous success with The [original] Yardbirds and was friendly with some big names in rock. Page states it was Keith Moon of The Who that claimed the band could only go down, like a lead balloon -- thus prompting the iconic name of Led Zeppelin. I agree with this list - many people think that metal is everything heavy, loud, fast, with power chords, with screams, and so on. But not every song with these things is metal. Hard rock and punk rock just share some similarities with metal.

2 AC/DC AC/DC are a Australian hard rock band, formed in November 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, who continued as members until Malcolm's illness and departure in 2014 . They were fronted by Bon Scott until his untimely death due to alcohol poisoning in 1979, after which they hired Brian Johnson to front the band. Commonly referred to as a hard rock or blues rock band.

I hate it that they're called metal. They're not even close to it.

3 Linkin Park Linkin Park is an American alternative rock band formed in Agoura Hills, California, in 1996. This band sucks! Also, you shouldn't be making metal-related lists because you know nothing about the genre.

It's rock. And Nu Metal isn't really metal in my opinion.

They're awesome, just not metal.

The fastest way to know if a band is metal is the site Encyclopaedia Metallum - if you put a band name into their search bar and you get "No matches found", the band isn't metal.

But the best way to know if a band is metal, is to know what metal is, and to know the differences. However,this is a longer process.

Don't confuse metal and grunge. Alice In Chains may be heavy, but that doesn't make them metal.

17 Mötley Crüe Mötley Crüe is an American metal band formed in Los Angeles, California on January 17, 1981. The group was founded by bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee, lead vocalist Vince Neil and lead guitarist Mick Mars.
18 Poison Poison is an American glam and hard rock band that achieved great commercial success in the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s.
19 Tool Tool is an American alternative metal/progressive metal band, that was formed in 1990. The band is set together between Maynard James Keenan (Vocals), Danny Carey (Drums), Adam Jones (Guitar) and since 1995 Justin Chancellor (Bass). The band is known for their influences from electronic sounds and their overly complex and strangely structured songs. They sound pure rock in my opinion.

22 Five Finger Death Punch Five Finger Death Punch, often shortened to Five Finger or Death Punch, also abbreviated as 5FDP or FFDP, is an American metal band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Formed in 2005, the band's name comes from the kung fu movie The Five Fingers of Death.
