While there are 90s rock geniuses like Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, Scott Weiland, Billie Joe Armstrong, Anthony Kledis, Billy Corgan, Maynard James Keenan, etc., but in my opinion, Trent Reznor makes them all bite the dust. Just listen to songs such as "Hurt" and "Closer", they are both really disturbing songs especially in its well-written haunting lyrics.

Not really they write generic lyrics nothing special to be honest. I've heard better lyrics from Five Finger Death Punch and Godsmack.
