Bands that are Incorrectly Labelled as Gothic Metal

Clarification — just because you have a female singer and have sad lyrics, it doesn't mean your band is gothic metal. Gothic metal is doom metal + death metal + a little bit of black metal.
Also, as I mentioned in another list, many rock and nu-metal bands are incorrectly labelled as metal. This is taken into account as well.
Finally, gothic metal doesn't really have anything to do with goths and gothic rock. The latter is for 15 year old girls, the former is just a genre of metal.
The Top Ten
1 Nightwish Nightwish is a symphonic metal band from Kitee, Finland. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and lead singer Tarja Turunen. It's currently formed by Tuomas, Emppu, lead vocalist Floor Jansen, bassist and vocalist Marco Hietala, multiinstrumentist and vocalist Troy Donockley, and drummer Jukka Nevalainen (currently on hiatus and replaced by Kai Hahto).

I'll be honest though. I don't think gothic rock/metal should be a real genre of music. More like an aesthetic or subculture.

I like early Nightwish, but they are 0% gothic metal. They don't even have extreme vocals.

I love Nightwish, butI wouldn't consider gothic rock/metal a real genre of music. More like an e

2 Evanescence Evanescence is an American alternative rock/alternative metal band. It was founded in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1995 by singer/pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody.

This one is the most frustrating, because they are not a metal band. Also, being popular among 15 year old goth girls doesn't make you gothic.

Alt metal is as close of a metal band as they can get
Evanescence is not metal

3 HIM HIM was a Finnish gothic rock band from Helsinki, Finland. Formed in 1991 by vocalist Ville Valo and bassist Mikko "Mige" Paananen under the name His Infernal Majesty, the band broke up in 1993, before being reformed in 1995 by Valo and guitarist Mikko "Linde" Lindström.

Not pure metal but absolutely gothic

Not metal, it's a rock band.

4 Within Temptation Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal band founded in April 1996 by vocalist Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt.

I can't wrap my head around the fact they are considered gothic metal. It's arguably metal anyway, more like pop rock.

5 Epica Epica is a Dutch symphonic metal band, founded by guitarist and vocalist Mark Jansen after his departure from After Forever.

This is getting ridiculous, having a female singer has nothing to do with gothic metal.

6 Marilyn Manson Marilyn Manson is an American rock band from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Formed in 1989 by frontman Marilyn Manson and Daisy Berkowitz, the group was originally named Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids with their theatrical performances gathering a local cult following in the early 1990s. The name of the band comes from famous sex symbol Marilyn Monroe and famous criminal Charles Manson. Manson joined these two names together because he wanted a name combined with good (Monroe) and evil (Manson). The other members of the band have their stage names combined with the first names of famous sex symbols and the last names of famous serial killers.
