The Top Ten

Called the best band ever for just one song - christangrant

I think this one is pretty self explanatory. - BoredJeff02

I also think that, they could be on top 5. But being on number 1 makes them kinda overrated. - zxm

3 The Beatles (Rock) The Beatles (Rock) The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were soon known as the foremost and most influential act of rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented more.

I wouldn't call the Beatles overrated honestly. They were a very pioneering band and helped push out Rock n Roll. Grant it they may overshadow other bands around it's time, like The Rolling Stones and Beach Boys, but that doesn't automatically qualify it overrated. They're one of the best-selling rock acts to this date and have influenced a majority of other successful rock acts of the 70s and up to the 80s. But I do admit the music media does give them too much credit in some cases so I can see why some see them as overrated. - cjWriter1997

Don't you mean people need to stop assuming overrated =/= terrible? - cjWriter1997

This one requires no explanation. - BoredJeff02

4 Cannibal Corpse (Death Metal) Cannibal Corpse (Death Metal) Cannibal Corpse is a American death metal band from Buffalo, New York, formed in 1988 . Honestly for Death Metal bands they aren't that great... Death's better in comparison. - BoredJeff02

I like Hammer Smashed Face, mainly for the instrumentation. The growls aren't really obnoxious to me. - cjWriter1997

They’re awful. They focus purely on shock value. They call their disgusting album art, song titles and lyrics as “artistic expression”. How can you call yourself an artist when your only purpose in the music world is to shock people? Slayer shocked people, but their overall goal was to make good music. With cannibal corpse, they don’t even try! - CostcoHotDogs

5 Black Sabbath (Heavy Metal) Black Sabbath (Heavy Metal) Black Sabbath were a Heavy Metal band formed in Birmingham, England in 1968 by guitarist and songwriter Tony Iommi, Singer Ozzy Osbourne, Bassist and Main Lyricist Geezer Butler and Drummer Bill Ward. The band got into mainstream after improving after their debut album got negative feedback. In 1978, more.

I don't think Black Sabbath is overrated at all in the Heavy Metal genre, there's more overrated bands than Sabbath. - Mumbizz01

Their are better heavy metal bands out there than Black Sabbath. - BoredJeff02

6 Sex Pistols (Punk Rock) Sex Pistols (Punk Rock) The Sex Pistols were an English punk rock band formed in London in 1975. Although they initially lasted just two and a half years and produced only four singles and one studio album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, they are considered one of the most influential acts in the history more.

Weren't that terribly good of a band, sorry to say. The vocals are awful, and the rest of the band could barely play, not to mention how the 'iconic' Sid Vicious couldn't play bass to save his life. This band was all about the image, not the music (which we rightly criticise pop music for these days, but these guys get a pass somehow) and considering that there are more musically capable bands in that genre, it seems to be an utter shame that these guys are seen as the figureheads of punk. - Mrveteran

They weren't a bad punk rock band but musically Ramones was better. - BoredJeff02

7 Metallica (Thrash Metal) Metallica (Thrash Metal) Metallica is an American Thrash Metal band formed in 1981 . The original lineup was James Hetfield (Vocalist and Rhythm guitarist), Dave Mustaine (Lead Guitar), Lars Ulrich (Drums), Ron McGovney (Bassist). I like them, but their best song (supposedly) One, I don't like at all, and to me, none of their songs are memorable to a large degree. - EliHbk

Best thrash metal, could be. But they are more overrated for the whole metal genre. There are other greater metal bands too. - zxm

Metallica's a good trash metal band but I don't think their personally the best of Trash Metal. - BoredJeff02

Again Skillet's not bad but they aren't the best Christian band out there in my opinion. - BoredJeff02

Red is way better I don't see anything I like from this band. - Nonpointed

10 Bullet for my Valentine (Metalcore)

A7X is more overrated. - BoredJeff02

The Contenders

11 Coldplay (Soft Rock)

May be the figureheads for it, but they are still terribly overrated and unbelievably boring. The occasional song may be tolerable and perfectly fine to listen to, but there's nothing that grabs many listeners. Unfortunately, due to their huge success, more Coldplays have popped out over the last 20 years, leaving the rock scene in general to be dominated by lame soft rock that mixes an up-tempo melody with slight melancholy to go along with it. Thanks Coldplay! - Mrveteran

Coldplay isn't really a soft rock band. They mostly played alt rock/pop, some piano rock, pop rock and pop. If they are overrated, then they are more overrated for alt rock. - zxm

Pop Rock and Soft Rock sound similar but Coldplay is Pop Rock. - BoredJeff02

12 Foo Fighters (Alternative)

Utterly mediocre music, and are sadly the figureheads for the alternative scene. Sure, they have a little more punch than a band like Coldplay and Dave Grohl is a very talented musician (his work with Nirvana demonstrates that to a tee), but I'm not a big fan of this band personally. - Mrveteran

13 Avenged Sevenfold (Metalcore) Avenged Sevenfold (Metalcore) Avenged Sevenfold is an American alternative metal/metalcore (early) band, that was formed 1999 in California. Their longest lineup of members was M. Shadows (Vocals), Synyster Gates (Lead Guitar), Zacky Vengeance (Rhythm Guitar), Johnny Christ (Bass Guitar), and The Rev (Drums). more.

Parkway drive is far better in this case. - zxm

14 Papa Roach (Nu Metal)

Papa Roach is not Nu Metal they are alt. rock. - BoredJeff02

15 Marilyn Manson (Industrial) Marilyn Manson (Industrial) Marilyn Manson is an American rock band from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The band's current lineup includes founding members Jonathan Davis, James "Munky" Shaffer, Brian "Head" Welch, and Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu, with the addition of Ray Luzier, who replaced the band's original member, David more.

They aren't bad but at the same time I've heard worse Nu Metal in my life time and I've also heard better Nu Metal in my life time. - BoredJeff02

The most influential though - EliHbk

17 Green Day (Pop Punk) Green Day (Pop Punk) Green Day are an American pop punk and alternative rock band formed in East Bay, California in 1987. Some more.

They suck. Just another generic, garbage emo band. - CostcoHotDogs

Green Day is NOT EMO I'm sick of people claiming they are when they aren't. - BoredJeff02

This one just explains it's self. - BoredJeff02

18 Switchfoot (Christian rock)

Skillet's far more overrated. - BoredJeff02

Oh my. That's a band I haven't heard of in a long time. I think I was 13 when I Iast heard their music. - cjWriter1997

19 Oasis (Rock) Oasis (Rock) Oasis were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1991. Developed from an earlier group, the Rain, the band originally consisted of Liam Gallagher (vocals and tambourine), Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs, Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan, and Tony McCarroll.

Punk Rock yes but no rock. - BoredJeff02

Oasis plays Britpop. It's a sub-genre of alternative rock. It was originated in 90s in England when US had grunge. So I think if they are overrated, then it'd be for alternative rock. Rather than whole rock genre. - zxm
