These bands are the most overrated of their genre imo. These bands aren't bad in their genre they just got too much attention in their genre.
The Top Ten

I think this one is pretty self explanatory.

Called the best band ever for just one song

2 Led Zeppelin (Hard Rock) Led Zeppelin was an English hard rock band formed in London in 1968 as the New Yardbirds. The group consisted of Robert Plant (Vocal), Jimmy Page (Guitar), John Paul Jones (Bass, Keyboard) and John Bonham (Drums) and was very much the child of Jimmy Page who even financed their first tour. He had tasted some previous success with The [original] Yardbirds and was friendly with some big names in rock. Page states it was Keith Moon of The Who that claimed the band could only go down, like a lead balloon -- thus prompting the iconic name of Led Zeppelin. The band's heavy, guitar-driven sound, rooted in blues and psychedelia on their early albums, has earned them recognition as one of the progenitors ...read more.

I also think that, they could be on top 5. But being on number 1 makes them kinda overrated.

Still probably the best pop punk band. Not really punk, but as far as pop punk goes they're really good.

This one just explains it's self.

I don't think Black Sabbath is overrated at all in the Heavy Metal genre, there's more overrated bands than Sabbath.

Deep Purple deserves just as much credit as Sabbath for inventing the genre.

Their are better heavy metal bands out there than Black Sabbath.

Honestly for Death Metal bands they aren't that great... Death's better in comparison.

I like them, but their best song (supposedly) One, I don't like at all, and to me, none of their songs are memorable to a large degree.

Best thrash metal, could be. But they are more overrated for the whole metal genre. There are other greater metal bands too.

Metallica's a good trash metal band but I don't think their personally the best of Trash Metal.

8 Avenged Sevenfold (Metalcore) Avenged Sevenfold is an American heavy metal band, that was formed 1999 in California. Their longest lineup of members was M. Shadows (Vocals), Synyster Gates (Lead Guitar), Zacky Vengeance (Rhythm Guitar), Johnny Christ (Bass Guitar), and The Rev (Drums).

Avenged sevenfold is not metalcore. It used to be metalcore in the first two albums, but now is heavy metal. In fact, they are one of my favourite bands for their heavy metal stuff, while I recognize there are way better bands regarding metalcore, like architects, parkway drive, motionless in white etc.

Parkway drive is far better in this case.

9 Foo Fighters (Alternative)

Utterly mediocre music, and are sadly the figureheads for the alternative scene. Sure, they have a little more punch than a band like Coldplay and Dave Grohl is a very talented musician (his work with Nirvana demonstrates that to a tee), but I'm not a big fan of this band personally.

10 Skillet (Christian Rock) Skillet is an American Christian rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1996 and based in the United States.

Again Skillet's not bad but they aren't the best Christian band out there in my opinion.

How can an artist be the most overrated of a genre that doesn't exist?

Red is way better I don't see anything I like from this band.

The Contenders
11 Linkin Park (Alternative Metal) Linkin Park is an American alternative rock band formed in Agoura Hills, California, in 1996. The current members include Mike Shinoda (vocals, keyboards, rhythm guitar), Brad Delson (guitar), Dave "Phoenix" Farrell (bass), Joe Hahn (DJ), and Rob Bourdon (drums). Their are more overrated bands than Metallica.

13 Sex Pistols (Punk Rock) The Sex Pistols were an English punk rock band formed in London in 1975. Although they initially lasted just two and a half years and produced only four singles and one studio album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, they are considered one of the most influential acts in the history of popular music, having initiated a punk movement in the United Kingdom, and inspired many later punk and alternative rock musicians.

Weren't that terribly good of a band, sorry to say. The vocals are awful, and the rest of the band could barely play, not to mention how the 'iconic' Sid Vicious couldn't play bass to save his life. This band was all about the image, not the music (which we rightly criticise pop music for these days, but these guys get a pass somehow) and considering that there are more musically capable bands in that genre, it seems to be an utter shame that these guys are seen as the figureheads of punk.

They weren't a bad punk rock band but musically Ramones was better.

14 Korn (Nu Metal) Korn is an American nu-metal band from Bakersfield, California, formed in 1993. The band's current lineup includes founding members Jonathan Davis, James "Munky" Shaffer, Brian "Head" Welch, and Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu, with the addition of Ray Luzier, who replaced the band's original member, David Silveria in 2007. Korn was originally formed by three of the members of the band L.A.P.D. ...read more.

They aren't bad but at the same time I've heard worse Nu Metal in my life time and I've also heard better Nu Metal in my life time.

The most influential though

15 Queen (Pop Rock) Queen are an English rock band formed in London in 1970. The original lineup was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar, vocals). Before forming into Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had played together in a band named Smile. Freddie Mercury was a fan of Smile and encouraged them to experiment with more elaborate stage and recording techniques. He then joined the band in 1970, suggested "Queen" as a new band name, and adopted his familiar stage name. John Deacon was also recruited to complete the line-up. ...read more.

I also find Queen little bit of overrated. But not for pop rock. They didn't play pop rock that much.

Try "Most Overrated on The Top Tens". They win that one by a light-year.

Queen is not Pop Rock Queen is Hard Rock nice try troll.

Because most of their later stuff was pop rock?

16 Bullet for my Valentine (Metalcore)
17 Papa Roach (Nu Metal)
18 Journey (Soft Rock)
19 Switchfoot (Christian rock)

Skillet's far more overrated.

20 Coldplay (Soft Rock)

May be the figureheads for it, but they are still terribly overrated and unbelievably boring. The occasional song may be tolerable and perfectly fine to listen to, but there's nothing that grabs many listeners. Unfortunately, due to their huge success, more Coldplays have popped out over the last 20 years, leaving the rock scene in general to be dominated by lame soft rock that mixes an up-tempo melody with slight melancholy to go along with it. Thanks Coldplay!

Coldplay isn't really a soft rock band. They mostly played alt rock/pop, some piano rock, pop rock and pop. If they are overrated, then they are more overrated for alt rock.

Pop Rock and Soft Rock sound similar but Coldplay is Pop Rock.

21 Anthrax (Thrash Metal)

Metallica's more overrated.

22 Oasis (Rock) Oasis were an English britpop band formed in Manchester in 1991. Developed from an earlier group, the Rain, the band originally consisted of Liam Gallagher (vocals and tambourine), Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs, Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan, and Tony McCarroll. Noel Gallagher (Liam's Brother) served as the primary songwriter and guitarist for the band. They released a total of 7 albums. Definitely Maybe (1994), (What's The Story) Morning Glory? (1995), Be Here Now (1997), Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000), Heathen Chemistry (2002), Don't Believe The Truth (2005), and Dig Out Your Soul (2008). They disbanded in 2009 after Noel refused to attend their final gig. Causing Liam and Noel to have a falling ...read more.

Oasis plays Britpop. It's a sub-genre of alternative rock. It was originated in 90s in England when US had grunge. So I think if they are overrated, then it'd be for alternative rock. Rather than whole rock genre.

Punk Rock yes but no rock.

23 Marilyn Manson (Industrial) Marilyn Manson is an American rock band from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Formed in 1989 by frontman Marilyn Manson and Daisy Berkowitz, the group was originally named Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids with their theatrical performances gathering a local cult following in the early 1990s. The name of the band comes from famous sex symbol Marilyn Monroe and famous criminal Charles Manson. Manson joined these two names together because he wanted a name combined with good (Monroe) and evil (Manson). The other members of the band have their stage names combined with the first names of famous sex symbols and the last names of famous serial killers.
24 Nine Inch Nails (Industrial) Nine Inch Nails is an American industrial rock band, founded in 1988 by Trent Reznor in Cleveland, Ohio.
25 Dream Theater (Progressive Metal) Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band from Boston, Massachusetts. The band was formed in 1985 under the name of "Majesty", only to change its name to Dream Theater later. ...read more.
