Top Ten Bands Metalheads Love to Hate

In the metal community, so called "elitist metalheads" will bash popular bands that play a style that they don't enjoy. Most of these bands come from the Nu Metal and -core subgenres.
The Top Ten
1 Suicide Silence Suicide Silence is an American deathcore band from Riverside, California. Formed in 2002, the band has released four full-length studio albums, one EP and eleven music videos.

Any deathcore band won't make a good impression on the average elitist metalhead. Suicide Silence is perhaps the most hated deathcore band.

I enjoyed their debut, but nothing else is really for me.

I actually hate it

2 Slipknot Slipknot is an American metal band formed in Des Moines, Iowa in 1996. The band is best known as one of the pioneers of the New Wave of American Alternative Metal during the late 1990s - 2000s and are distinguishable by the band's clothing choices, consisting of black/red jumpsuits and horror inspired masks. ...read more.

I'll admit, I dislike slipknot, and some of you may know that I made that list "Top Ten Reasons to Hate Slipknot" which I very much regret making. I realized that as someone who listens to Death Metal, Black Metal, and a bit of Grindcore, I have no place to criticize someone's music taste.

Oh definitely. Most metalheads seem to hate this band for different reasons. I think they sound pretty decent but there's much more better bands out there.

3 Cradle of Filth Cradle of Filth are a British extreme metal band that formed in Suffolk in 1991. The band's musical style evolved from black metal to a cleaner and more "produced" amalgam of gothic metal, symphonic black metal and other extreme metal styles.

Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir are despised by Black Metal elitists,.because they don't think bm bands should innovate. I am not a CoF fan, mostly because of their Gothic themes.

Great band lots of people hate them and they are wrong to.

4 Linkin Park Linkin Park is an American alternative rock band formed in Agoura Hills, California, in 1996. The current members include Mike Shinoda (vocals, keyboards, rhythm guitar), Brad Delson (guitar), Dave "Phoenix" Farrell (bass), Joe Hahn (DJ), and Rob Bourdon (drums). Linkin Park is associated with a mixture of alternative rock, hip hop, and techno. Some of their influences include Nine Inch Nails, Deftones,... read more

I don't know why so many people like them. They're just more garbage

Why do people hate them? They're great!

This band sucks

5 Disturbed Disturbed is an American alternative metal/nu-metal/hard rock band from Chicago, Illinois. The band comprises vocalist David Draiman, bassist John Moyer, guitarist Dan Donegan, and drummer Mike Wengren. They are known for songs like "Down With the Sickness" and "Stricken".

An example of a band hated by many for simply being popular. I actually like Disturbed and their latest album 'Immortalized' is one of the better albums released this year.

Awful just awful.

6 Avenged Sevenfold Avenged Sevenfold is an American heavy metal band, that was formed 1999 in California. Their longest lineup of members was M. Shadows (Vocals), Synyster Gates (Lead Guitar), Zacky Vengeance (Rhythm Guitar), Johnny Christ (Bass Guitar), and The Rev (Drums).

A common phrase for fans "foREVer" was created after the Rev's death in his remembrance. ...read more.

They'd be higher up, but nobody really cares about them anymore

This should have been #1

8 Dimmu Borgir Dimmu Borgir is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band from Oslo, Norway, formed in 1993. The name is derived from Dimmuborgir, a volcanic formation in Iceland, the name of which means "dark cities" or "dark castles/fortresses" in Icelandic, Faroese and Old Norse.

I never understood the hatred regarding the sort of music they play - come on they have been a Symphonic Black Metal band for over 2 decades and have released quality albums throughout the 90s. The criticism of not being a "troo kvlt " black metal band were never directed towards Emperor (in fact they're hailed as one of the greatest black metal bands of all time), despite their sound being far off from the traditional black metal style. The narrow minded Black Metal purists have been a constant pain on the back to bear.

I don't understand black metal elitists. They think a "trve" black metal band has to have poor sound quality, no melody or symphonic elements, and has to be satanic. Dimmu borgir is a very good band in my opinion.

9 Coldplay Coldplay are a British pop rock band formed in 1996. The band consists of Chris Martin (lead vocalist and pianist), Jonny Buckland (lead guitarist), Guy Berryman (bassist) and Will Champion (drummer and backing vocalist). In the beginning of their career, the band was heavily associated with the emo subculture, and had strong metalcore, screamo and alternative influences, however got more metal oriented over the years. Their songs usually carry a message of acceptance, believing in yourself and being individual and different. Among their most well known songs are "Knives and Pens", "Rebel Love Song", "In the End" and "Fallen Angels".

Let's don't argue if this band is metal or not. But what is for certain: These guys are extremely hated among the metal community.
I am not a fan either and mostly dislike their music, but some take this "disliking" very far... just look in the YouTube comment section...

Whenever One Direction is mentioned by a metalhead, the band is going to be a punching bag.

I don't hate One Direction (Got no reason to, plus there's worse out there) and I see where their appeal comes from, but I've seen way better Modern Pop acts anyway.

20 Beatles The Beatles were an English pop rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were soon known as the foremost and most influential act of rock era. I'm pretty sure most metalheads respect this band, right? Can someone please explain to me why they would though? Oh and yes they were ROCK and those many would call pop songs are slow rock n roll/folk like Everly Bros(who are also not pop)

Metal Elitists

Well, Korn is only one of the very few good Nu Metal bands.

They're hated for apparently creating nu metal.

There is no such thing as a good nu-metal band.

24 Waking the Cadaver
25 Sonic Syndicate Sonic Syndicate is a heavy metal band from Falkenberg, Sweden. They are influenced by Swedish melodic death metal bands such as In Flames and Soilwork and American metalcore bands like Killswitch Engage and All That Remains.

I heard they once played on a festival and a horde of Amon Amarth fans booed them on the concert, which was apparently a fierce experience for the band members...
I am not a fan of Sonic Syndicate (I really dislike their music actually), but I think such behavior is not fair and antisocial. If you don't like the music like me: do not care and move on. Let others like what they want.
