Top 10 Bands Which are Killing Rock

This list is made up of those Modern Rock Bands with bad/cheesy/insanely poppy lyrics. Those Modern Rock bands who cater to the lowest common denominator by being as trendy as possible, you know those bands which make people think modern rock sucks. Let's begin!
The Top Ten
1 Imagine Dragons Imagine Dragons is an American pop rock band from Provo, Utah, and are now based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. Imagine Dragons' lineup consists of lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman. The band first gained exposure with the release of their single "It's Time", followed by their award-winning debut studio album Night Visions (2012), which resulted... read more

This ain't rock. It's a bad mix of heavy metal, R&B, and everything we hate about modern day pop music. If have a friend who (somehow) likes these guys, and I don't see how. I don't usually dislike music, but these guys, I'm sorry. They just ain't gonna cut it for me. I may mostly enjoy listen to Shakira, but I don't really have any preferences for music styles, it all depends on if they're actually good. Shakira has made pop, rock and rap songs before, and all have been good. Don't discriminate against the style of music, Do it based on if actually sounds good, feels good, and makes you happy. But Imagine Dragons, I have no love for.

You guys are all ridiculous. I am a huge fan of some of the greatest rock bands of all time, such as Queen, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, etc. And I have to say, Imagine Dragons is NOT killing rock. In fact, they are not even a rock band! In an interview in September of 2018 before their release of the album "Origins", Dan Reynolds said, "We are not a rock band. People see that we play loud and I that I can get a bit screamy, and so they stereotype us as a rock band, but we aren't going in that direction. If that's what people think than I'm sorry." So if you guys did a little more digging versus judging, you would see that Imagine Dragons is going more in the direction of pop/alternative. You guys need to get over all of your "feelings" about Imagine Dragons killing rock, because they aren't. Enough said.

2 Coldplay Coldplay are a British pop rock band formed in 1996. The band consists of Chris Martin (lead vocalist and pianist), Jonny Buckland (lead guitarist), Guy Berryman (bassist) and Will Champion (drummer and backing vocalist). Manager Phil Harvey is often considered an unofficial fifth member. The band renamed themselves "Coldplay" in 1998. Before making their debut album, they recorded and released three EPs: Safety in 1998, Brothers & Sisters as a single in 1999, and The Blue Room in the same year. The Blue Room was their first release on a major label, after signing to Parlophone. ...read more.

They started out by ripping off bands like U2, and Radiohead in the 2000s and the music they made was incredibly boring. Now they're Similar to Imagine Dragons, which means they follow as trends as possible. They also collaborate with as much pop stars as possible Examples: Big Sean, Rihanna, The Chainsmokers, etc.

This a fruggin folk rock poppy mainstream band. Come on. They're 2% rock. This is what the description says: Cold play are a British Rock WTFFUU

Early Coldplay was good. But after Viva La Vida they turned so mainstream

Very tough decision. But Coldplay has the WORST NEW ROCK EVER

3 Nickelback Nickelback is a Canadian post-grunge band formed in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta, Canada. The band is composed of guitarist and lead vocalist Chad Kroeger, guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist Ryan Peake, bassist Mike Kroeger, and drummer Daniel Adair.

It's 2018 and people are still riding the "Nickelback hating" bandwagon. Can we please just agree that Nickelback isn't the worst?

Some of the most boring, and repetitive Post-Grunge music comes from this band. Their lyrics can be Sexist as well.

Seriously it's 2018 and hating on Nickleback is getting really old. Another thing here just because you don't like them dosen't mean they suck.

I forgot about these nobodies. I have always hated them but this seems outdated.

4 Maroon 5 Maroon 5 is an American pop/pop rock band that originated in Los Angeles, California. Before the current group was established, the original four members, Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick, formed a band known as Kara's Flowers in 1994, while they were still in high school.

It's a shame how far Maroon 5 have fallen. In their earlier years, you could actually call them a "rock band" and not many people would disagree with you. They managed to incorporate funky grooves into a pop/alternative rock sound that was actually interesting to listen to. A lot of their old songs like "This Love", "She Will Be Loved", and "Makes Me Wonder" still hold up in my opinion. They were never amazing or anything like that, but at least they felt like a real band. Nowadays, their music is just uninspiring pop crap that feels like it was performed by one person as opposed to six people. It's also kind of funny that they're still called Maroon 5 when there's six of them now.

It's so Adam-centric these days. There's none of the mult-intrumental flair that they had and what rock has. Maroon 5 is solely pop now... Or at least matches the criteria for pop

For me they are not bad but they no longer have the same musical strength in those years

Their more recent work is the Same as Imagine Dragons.

5 Twenty One Pilots Twenty One Pilots is an American musical duo that is originally from Columbus, Ohio, who are best known for their songs "Stressed Out", "Heathens" and "Ride". Currently there are two members, Tyler Joseph (lead vocals, piano, keyboards, synthesizers, ukulele, bass and guitar) and Josh Dun (drums and ...read more.

I only like Ride by them. They're extremely overrated and not even rock. When I first heard that Twenty One Pilots were considered a rock band, I was extremely surprised. I never heard any electric guitars or complex compositions (like Metallica with complex compositions), much less any guitar or any instrumental solos. I don't like Twenty One Pilots, but I like Imagine Dragons Less.

I personally don't think of them as rock, but a lot of people do, and they have a lot of influence in the modern rock scene. This band's music is in insanely bad in my opinion. From the overly preachy lyrics to the crappy rapping, and singing. This band has it all to be a bad modern rock band.

I don't mind them. I feel like they manage to combine elements of pop, electronic, hip hop, and rock in a tasteful and interesting way. That's just me, though. I could totally see how someone could find their music boring and insufferable.

They've created their own style, really. Ode to sleep is something I've never heard anything like before, I think it's an overstatement to say they are killing rock.

6 Mumford & Sons Mumford & Sons are a British indie folk band from London, formed in 2007. The band consists of Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane.

These guys make Folk Rock look like a joke. Their overuse of the word Heart is so annoying, that it makes you wish to never hear the word again for the rest of your life. The lyrics are incredibly cheesy as well.

7 Deep Purple Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach changed over the years. Originally formed as a progressive rock band, the band shifted to a heavier sound in 1970. Deep Purple, together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid-seventies". They were listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as "the globe's loudest band" for a 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre, and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide. ...read more.
8 30 Seconds to Mars Thirty Seconds to Mars (commonly stylized as 30 Seconds to Mars) is an American alternative rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1998. The band currently consists of brothers Jared and Shannon Leto.

They aren't killing rock, they more so killed their own band. They switched from really amazing rock with their first two albums to weird anthem rock pop songs with this is war. But those were still good. After LLFD it just went downhill when they basically went all pop and electronic. I don't think anyone can hear a song off of AMERICA and say "that's rock." They are a pop band and their first 3 albums we're incredibly good and definitely did not kill rock. Most people acknowledge the fact that they are not trying to be rock anymore and it's really obvious they've moved away from that genre.

I don't want to hate 30 Seconds to Mars. I love their debut album and 'A Beautiful Lie', they have had a lot of great songs, and Jared Leto is a genuinely talented rock star. But the direction they've been going with their latest album has been very poor, they seem to have more or less abandoned their rock roots, and it just emphasizes that they'll never make another album like they used to.
What a shame.

They should have never released their debut back in 2002. Then this would have been much easier to say ; they suck suck suck... the only good thing they ever did was their debut album.

9 X Ambassadors X Ambassadors is an American rock band from Ithaca, New York. It currently consists of lead vocalist Sam Harris, keyboardist Casey Harris, lead guitarist Noah Feldshuh, and drummer Adam Levin.
10 Theory Of A Deadman Theory of a Deadman is a Canadian post-grunge band. Formed in 2001, the band is currently signed to Roadrunner Records as well as 604 Records. They were discovered by Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroeger. Theory of a Deadman has gone on to release eight studio albums. Their most well-known songs include "The Bitch Came Back," "I Hate My Life," "Santa Monica," and "Not Meant to Be," among others... read more

You can thank Chad K. of Nickelback for their record deal, because they are just like Nickelback, and they are on Nickelback's label.

What's Wrong with them?

The Contenders
11 Panic! at the Disco Panic! at the Disco was an American pop rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2004 and featuring the current lineup of vocalist Brendon Urie, accompanied on tour by bassist Dallon Weekes, guitarist Kenneth Harris, and drummer Dan Pawlovich.

I'm not usually into this sort of thing, but I really like Panic!

The singer sounds like the way a hippo's face looks.

Not exactly a rock band. They're quite good though.

12 5 Seconds of Summer 5 Seconds of Summer are an Australian pop-rock band from Sydney, Australia, that formed in 2011. The group were originally YouTube celebrities, posting videos of themselves covering songs from various artists during 2011 and early 2012. They rose to international fame while touring with One Direction on the Take Me Home Tour.

They give pop punk a bad name. Their cover of American Idiot was garbage.

13 Blood on the Dance Floor Blood on the Dance Floor was an American electronic music group from Orlando, Florida, originally consisting of Dahvie Vanity and several other members over time. The group formed in 2006, with former members including Jayy Von Monroe (2009–2016) and Garrett Ecstasy (2009), all of whom provided vocals for the project... read more

Just because they dress as scene kids doesn't make them rock.

14 Fall Out Boy Fall Out Boy is an American pop punk band formed in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, in 2001. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman, and drummer Andy Hurley.

This band is the definition of Bland Pop Punk, and Emo music. And just like a lot of other bands on this list they follow trends, like a "cool middle school kid".

The closer they get to electropop, the worse they get. Makes sense.

They are so lame now

15 Hinder Hinder is an American post-grunge/hard rock band from Oklahoma. The band was formed in 2001 by drummer Cody Hanson, lead singer Austin Winkler, and guitarist Joe "Blower" Garvey.

Linkin Park is associated with a mixture of alternative rock, hip hop, and techno. Some of their influences include Nine Inch Nails, Deftones,... read more

You know.. Bands can't experiment and change genres.. Right? Whoever voted this onto the list is an absolute moron who has never heard of the words 'experiment' or 'change'. Linkin Park is quite an old band and their music genres have changed a bit so their music isn't repetitive or boring. I like their old metal and new electronic stuff.

18 My Chemical Romance My Chemical Romance is an American rock band from Jersey City, New Jersey, active from 2001 to 2013, and again from 2019 to present day. For much of their career, the band consisted of lead vocalist Gerard Way, guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, bassist Mikey Way, and drummer Bob Bryar.

All emo music is terrible. Let this band's legacy rot in hell forever.

19 Scorpions Scorpions are a German rock band formed in 1965 in Hanover by Rudolf Schenker. Since the band's inception, its musical style has ranged from hard rock to heavy metal.
20 The 1975 The 1975 are an English pop-rock band originating from Manchester. The group consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Matthew "Matty" Healy, lead guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and drummer George Daniel.

First off, what a lame name for a band, I know that the name does not affect the quality of the music, but come on really, "The 1975"?! Apparently the name comes from the fact that the band got their influence from 70s, funk, but naming a band after a year in that decade is the most uncreative thing I can think of. That's like if I formed a Neo-Psychedelia band, and I choose to name the band "The 1967", see how lame that is? Moving on from the name now, The band's music is also very generic, both lyrically, and instrumentally. They also follow trends way too much.

I'll be honest, stupid name, music all sounds the same. Only good I can see in this band is their acoustic sessions which the singer seems to ruin regardless with his trash voice

They are an insult to other Manchester bands such as Oasis, the Smiths, and Joy Division.

The question is, where they ever enough to qualify as a 'rock band'?

21 Limp Bizkit Limp Bizkit is an American nu-metal/rap metal/rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 1994. Their lineup consists of Fred Durst, Sam Rivers, John Otto, and Wes Borland.
