Top 10 Bands Which are Killing Rock

RogerWatersfan1999
This list is made up of those Modern Rock Bands with bad/cheesy/insanely poppy lyrics. Those Modern Rock bands who cater to the lowest common denominator by being as trendy as possible, you know those bands which make people think modern rock sucks. Let's begin!

The Top Ten

1 Imagine Dragons Imagine Dragons Imagine Dragons is an American pop rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Imagine Dragons' lineup consists of lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman.

It's a sad state of affairs when IMAGINE DRAGONS is currently the most commercially successful "rock" band in the world. Screw all this electronically produced pop crap that this band puts out that somehow people classify as "rock music". If you 10 year olds want to listen to a real current rock band, listen to The Struts, Royal Blood or Greta Van Fleet. - phillysports

I agree with that statement its like Imagine Dragons is the only rock band that matters in the world - WWEWBMortalKombatFan

I really don't like this band. It's so overrated and too mainstream that it makes people forget about REAL rock music, like Metallica, Queen, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath (I didn't include Led Zeppelin because it just plain sucks). Also, their songs are fairly generic. Their most generic are On Top of the World and Thunder. - PhoenixAura81

This ain't rock. It's a bad mix of heavy metal, R&B, and everything we hate about modern day pop music. If have a friend who (somehow) likes these guys, and I don't see how. I don't usually dislike music, but these guys, I'm sorry. They just ain't gonna cut it for me. I may mostly enjoy listen to Shakira, but I don't really have any preferences for music styles, it all depends on if they're actually good. Shakira has made pop, rock and rap songs before, and all have been good. Don't discriminate against the style of music, Do it based on if actually sounds good, feels good, and makes you happy. But Imagine Dragons, I have no love for. - Lanturnizer6

Sorry, before voting, I thought the title meant "killing it" as in being awesome, not being bad. Should've voted for literally anyone else. ID is always bringing something new in every song - TheInsomniac

2 Coldplay Coldplay Coldplay are a British rock band formed in 1996. Very tough decision. But Coldplay has the WORST NEW ROCK EVER - rizzo824

Early Coldplay was good. But after Viva La Vida they turned so mainstream

They started out by ripping off bands like U2, and Radiohead in the 2000s and the music they made was incredibly boring. Now they're Similar to Imagine Dragons, which means they follow as trends as possible. They also collaborate with as much pop stars as possible Examples: Big Sean, Rihanna, The Chainsmokers, etc. - RogerWatersfan1999

This a fruggin folk rock poppy mainstream band. Come on. They're 2% rock. This is what the description says: Cold play are a British Rock WTFFUU

I only like Ride by them. They're extremely overrated and not even rock. When I first heard that Twenty One Pilots were considered a rock band, I was extremely surprised. I never heard any electric guitars or complex compositions (like Metallica with complex compositions), much less any guitar or any instrumental solos. I don't like Twenty One Pilots, but I like Imagine Dragons Less. - PhoenixAura81

I don't mind them. I feel like they manage to combine elements of pop, electronic, hip hop, and rock in a tasteful and interesting way. That's just me, though. I could totally see how someone could find their music boring and insufferable. - phillysports

I personally don't think of them as rock, but a lot of people do, and they have a lot of influence in the modern rock scene. This band's music is in insanely bad in my opinion. From the overly preachy lyrics to the crappy rapping, and singing. This band has it all to be a bad modern rock band. - RogerWatersfan1999

They're mainstream. It never should happened. - Userguy44

4 Maroon 5 Maroon 5 Maroon 5 is an American pop rock band that originated in Los Angeles, California. Before the current group was established, the original four members, Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick, formed a band known as Kara's Flowers in 1994, while they were still in high school.

It's a shame how far Maroon 5 have fallen. In their earlier years, you could actually call them a "rock band" and not many people would disagree with you. They managed to incorporate funky grooves into a pop/alternative rock sound that was actually interesting to listen to. A lot of their old songs like "This Love", "She Will Be Loved", and "Makes Me Wonder" still hold up in my opinion. They were never amazing or anything like that, but at least they felt like a real band. Nowadays, their music is just uninspiring pop crap that feels like it was performed by one person as opposed to six people. It's also kind of funny that they're still called Maroon 5 when there's six of them now. - phillysports

Their more recent work is the Same as Imagine Dragons. - RogerWatersfan1999

For me they are not bad but they no longer have the same musical strength in those years - MickeyMouse

It's so Adam-centric these days. There's none of the mult-intrumental flair that they had and what rock has. Maroon 5 is solely pop now... Or at least matches the criteria for pop

5 Theory Of A Deadman Theory Of A Deadman Theory of a Deadman is a Canadian post-grunge band. Formed in 2001, the band is currently signed to Roadrunner Records as well as 604 Records. They were discovered by Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroeger.

You can thank Chad K. of Nickelback for their record deal, because they are just like Nickelback, and they are on Nickelback's label. - RogerWatersfan1999

6 Mumford & Sons Mumford & Sons Mumford & Sons are a British rock band from London, formed in 2007. The band consists of Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane.

These guys make Folk Rock look like a joke. Their overuse of the word Heart is so annoying, that it makes you wish to never hear the word again for the rest of your life. The lyrics are incredibly cheesy as well. - RogerWatersfan1999

Killing folk? You don't have to like them, but literally none of these are killing any form of music. Music evolves, deal. These people are very talented, and in Little Lion Man they used to F bomb is a proper way. Again, you don't have to like any of these, but they are not killing a fly. - 445956

7 Nickelback Nickelback Nickelback is a Canadian rock band formed in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta, Canada. The band is composed of guitarist and lead vocalist Chad Kroeger, guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist Ryan Peake, bassist Mike Kroeger, and drummer Daniel Adair.

It's 2018 and people are still riding the "Nickelback hating" bandwagon. Can we please just agree that Nickelback isn't the worst? - isaaonrtdmtr

Chad Kroeger is an awful lyricist, and a lot of the hate is justified. - Pagepage21

If they're here might as well rename the list "Top 10 Bands Which WERE Killing Rock" - CloudInvasion

Some of the most boring, and repetitive Post-Grunge music comes from this band. Their lyrics can be Sexist as well. - RogerWatersfan1999

8 Fall Out Boy Fall Out Boy Fall Out Boy is an American pop rock band formed in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, in 2001. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman, and drummer Andy Hurley.

This band is the definition of Bland Pop Punk, and Emo music. And just like a lot of other bands on this list they follow trends, like a "cool middle school kid". - RogerWatersfan1999

Fall out boy is not rock they are more punk they are amazing too - Manlypants

They are so lame now - MickeyMouse

FOB is not killing rock. Rock has evolved to fit a new audience. While their newest album is treated as a rock album when it is more pop rock/ indie pop, that doesn’t mean they are killing rock. Bands like TØP and ID aren’t either. Both bands have never given themselves a genre. People just think of them as rock because ID’s first two albums were, while their newest one is pop. TØP was never rock and, while I enjoy their music, they should not be considered a rock band. Now, back to FOB. Pete Wentz has an amazing lyrical style, and Patrick is a great vocalist. While there are better bands that are less recognized, that doesn’t make ID, TØP, and FOB bad. It all depends on what people think. Also, those who say “ID and TØP and FOB cater to teens, and teens are stupid and like it”, are not thinking clearly. A bunch of teens wouldn’t boost FOB and ID and TØP to the popularity it is at. ID and TØP fans are primarily people from 10-30, while FOB fans are people from ...more

10 The 1975 The 1975

First off, what a lame name for a band, I know that the name does not affect the quality of the music, but come on really, "The 1975"?! Apparently the name comes from the fact that the band got their influence from 70s, funk, but naming a band after a year in that decade is the most uncreative thing I can think of. That's like if I formed a Neo-Psychedelia band, and I choose to name the band "The 1967", see how lame that is? Moving on from the name now, The band's music is also very generic, both lyrically, and instrumentally. They also follow trends way too much. - RogerWatersfan1999

The question is, where they ever enough to qualify as a 'rock band'? - SpectralOwl

15 30 Seconds to Mars 30 Seconds to Mars Thirty Seconds to Mars (commonly stylized as 30 Seconds to Mars) is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1998. The band consists of Jared Leto, Shannon Leto and Tomo Miličević.

They aren't killing rock, they more so killed their own band. They switched from really amazing rock with their first two albums to weird anthem rock pop songs with this is war. But those were still good. After LLFD it just went downhill when they basically went all pop and electronic. I don't think anyone can hear a song off of AMERICA and say "that's rock." They are a pop band and their first 3 albums we're incredibly good and definitely did not kill rock. Most people acknowledge the fact that they are not trying to be rock anymore and it's really obvious they've moved away from that genre. - 10Jackson

I don't want to hate 30 Seconds to Mars. I love their debut album and 'A Beautiful Lie', they have had a lot of great songs, and Jared Leto is a genuinely talented rock star. But the direction they've been going with their latest album has been very poor, they seem to have more or less abandoned their rock roots, and it just emphasizes that they'll never make another album like they used to.
What a shame. - SuperSonic17

How can dead bands kill roc - Swellow

My Chemical Romance broke up in 2013, how can they be "killing" rock at the moment?. Sure their music is really bad, but they would be killing rock if they were still around. - Mumbizz01

They're by no means bad. They are arguably one of the greatest rock bands of all time. They have an awful fanbase, but all the music that they released, was superb. - Pagepage21
