Top Ten Bands Whose Songs All Sound the Same

These bands... Just try something different for a change.
The Top Ten
1 AC/DC AC/DC are a Australian hard rock band, formed in November 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, who continued as members until Malcolm's illness and departure in 2014 . They were fronted by Bon Scott until his untimely death due to alcohol poisoning in 1979, after which they hired Brian Johnson... read more

Well, I like AC/DC, but I have to agree that they sound very similar and sounds like they are parodying themselves. There are prime examples of this: "TNT", "Jailbreak", and "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"; "You Shook Me All Night Long" and "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pullution"; and everything with the 12 bar blues riff to name a few. They use the minor pentatonic scale and power chords for all of their songs and write about the same stuff. Like I said, I like AC/DC, they just sound the same.

Pretty much the first band that comes to mind. Aside from their best songs like Back in Black, Thunderstruck and Highway to Hell, once you've listened to these, you've listened to them all. Their sound barely ever changed. They have some hidden gems hidden in their albums though.

2 Nickelback Nickelback is a Canadian post-grunge band formed in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta, Canada. The band is composed of guitarist and lead vocalist Chad Kroeger, guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist Ryan Peake, bassist Mike Kroeger, and drummer Daniel Adair.

How to make a successful Nickelback song
1. Write lyrics about getting drunk, stoned, having sex and or a breakup
2. Write a cliché as hell chorus
3. Write a boring verse or two
4. Have generic Guitar riffs
5. Sing like a drunk robot
6. Make a cringe inducing Music video
7. Watch the money& hate pour in at once

Sad excuse of a rock band. They should be labeled as a Pop band.

Nothing more repetitive, its objectivity fact.

3 Breaking Benjamin Breaking Benjamin is a American post-grunge/alternative metal/rock band formed in 1998. The bands members all changed in the time between 2010 to 2014, with the exception of Ben Burnley (Vocals). The Ex-Members included Chad Szeliga (Drums), Aaron Fink (Guitar) and Mark Klepaspi (Bass)... read more

With Breaking Benjamin I already know what to expect with their songs.
1. Generic Guitar riff
2. Average but not special singing
3. Boring drums
4. Average lyrics
5. Repetitive bass
6. Mediocre sound in the process

I don't understand how this band gets all the love they get. Every song is generic hard rock at it's most boring. And It's hard to distinguish one song from another. Do us a favor BB...change it up a bit

It's untrue. The last two albums sound different from the others , and their tracks are different even in the previous works

4 Imagine Dragons Imagine Dragons is an American pop rock band from Provo, Utah, and are now based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. Imagine Dragons' lineup consists of lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman. The band first gained exposure with the release of their... read more

Eh. As a fan, I kinda agree but there are a few songs that sound different than most of their songs.

Edit: Actually not that repetitive at all

Every single imagine dragons song follows the exact same structure.
Quiet, boring and repetetive verse -> Loud, overdone, overcomplicated boomy chorus

Same body, different dressing.

5 Disturbed Disturbed is an American alternative metal/nu-metal/hard rock band from Chicago, Illinois. The band comprises vocalist David Draiman, bassist John Moyer, guitarist Dan Donegan, and drummer Mike Wengren. They are known for songs like "Down With the Sickness" and "Stricken".

I like some of Disturbed's songs, but their songs sound WAY too much the same, like, how can you not say that both Down with the Sickness and Ten Thousand Fists has very similar sounding riffs?

I love me some Disturbed but the vocal riffs in more than a few songs sound a tad too similar to one another.

Disturbed hasn't changed much over the years, in any aspect, but their songs usually sound different.

6 Limp Bizkit Limp Bizkit is an American nu-metal/rap metal/rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 1994. Their lineup consists of Fred Durst, Sam Rivers, John Otto, and Wes Borland. They're mostly known for their singles like Break Stuff, My Way, My Generation, Nookie, Eat You Alive, Rollin', and Take a... read more

The same? No, each song is unique. Maybe with the exception of a few songs from "golden cobra".

7 Tool Tool is an American alternative metal/progressive metal band, that was formed in 1990.

The band is set together between Maynard James Keenan (Vocals), Danny Carey (Drums), Adam Jones (Guitar) and since 1995 Justin Chancellor (Bass).

The band is known for their influences from electronic... read more

Terrible excuse for a metal band! Toolheads have the audacity to compare their beloved, unimaginative, soulless band with Pink Floyd - truly an abominable attitude! All of their songs uses the same formula of endless repetition of recycled riffs and grating sounds of pots and pans accompained by random robotic noises in the background. Their music is like an overbloated bag of unhealthy chips - zero substance! Overstretching 3 minute songs by stuffing useless and boring fillers to create illusion of musical progression.

8 Rage Against the Machine Rage Against the Machine is a rap metal band formed in Los Angeles, California. The band consists of vocalist Zack de la Rocha, bassist Tim Commerford, guitarist Tom Morello and drummer Brad Wilk.

I love this band, but you have to admit that their style, at least in their original albums, is very predictable and to-the-point. RatM have such a recognizable style because most of their songs share so many of the same features, formulas, themes, etc. I think of it like a lifetime supply of chocolate. It's hella good, but you know what you're gonna expect.

This is coming from someone who hasn't listened to Renegades yet, by the way.

They're great but their songs sound pretty similar, since their themes and feeling are similar.

9 Cannibal Corpse Cannibal Corpse is a American death metal band from Buffalo, New York, formed in 1988. The band is known for their graphic album covers, explicitly violent lyrics and song titles like "I C** Blood" The group got into mainstream after performing the song "Hammer Smashed Face" in the 1994 film Ace Ventura:... read more

Your right, but its not like its any use, I mean you can't even kind of make out the lyrics. the music itself is basically just blast beats on the drums and sweep picking on the guitar for five minutes and finally its over.

All of them are basically growling, generic fast riffs, fast drumming, and similar lyrics. There isn't a single song that sounds very diverse for this band. Not saying it out of hate, but as facts

I think Dying Fetus almost fits this more; though I love both bands

10 Slayer Slayer was an American thrash metal band from Huntington Park, California, formed in 1981 by guitarists Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King. They rose to fame with their 1986 album Reign in Blood, and is credited as one of the big four of thrash metal bands, the others being Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax... read more

I used to think Slayer songs sound the same but after listening to a lot of thrash metal (long ago) I realised that in fact they have tried out various styles of extreme thrash. I'm not a Slayer fan by any means, but the reason people think their songs all sound the same is either that they aren't used to extreme metal, or that they compare them to the other three of the big four who have jumped on any trend in the 1990s.

Show No Mercy has an NWOBHM vibe but faster, I wouldn't even consider it thrash metal rather than speed metal. Hell Awaits is significantly heavier, has more complexly structured song (possibly the peak of the band's songwriting), the vocals are also less clean and the 1980s sounding reverbed production of the debut is gone. Reign in Blood can be described as Hell Awaits without any complexity and system, I honestly believe it has hardly anything to show apart from its heaviness. South of Heaven almost never leaves mid-pace territory and has some almost clean vocals. Even though I think they are overpraised to the max, I can't deny their first four albums all showcase a different brand of thrash metal.

Then they have a few Slipknot sounding songs which also don't help the people who voted for them

Actually LP experimented with a lot of genres including Nu Metal, Alt Metal, Alt Rock, Rap Rock, Electronic Rock & even Pop Rock on their final albums for which they started getting the bad reputation of selling out. Them being placed higher on this list is kinda ironic since the only reason they started experimenting is because critics started accused them of being monotonous & samey. Seems like some people just keep searching for reasons to hate a band/artist they dislike

I don't like this band, but they drastically changed their style over time so it doesn't really deserve to be on this list.

14 Coldplay Coldplay are a British pop rock band formed in 1996. The band consists of Chris Martin (lead vocalist and pianist), Jonny Buckland (lead guitarist), Guy Berryman (bassist) and Will Champion (drummer and backing vocalist). Manager Phil Harvey is often considered an unofficial fifth member. The band renamed... read more

Not sure if the person who put this on here is deaf or trolling. If anything, they're one of the most versatile music artists of all time. A Rush Of Blood To The Head and Music Of The Spheres sound like they were created by two completely different bands.

Sort of. Pretty much all on Parachute sounds the same. Pretty much all on Ghost Stories sound the same (with a TKOL esque). Pretty much all of their latest stuff sound the same, but less or more it is easy to know which album and such from which.

Each album is different but the songs are similar within the albums.

15 Three Days Grace Three Days Grace is a Canadian post-grunge/alternative rock band formed in Norwood, Ontario in 1992 with a line-up consisting of guitarist and lead vocalist Adam Gontier, drummer and backing vocalist Neil Sanderson, and bassist Brad Walst. I really only thought they only had one song...

18 Dragonforce DragonForce are a British power metal band based in London, England. Formed in 1999, the group are known for their long and fast guitar solos, fantasy-themed lyrics, and electronic sounds in their music to add to their retro video game-influenced sound.

I love Dragonforce and they're cool but yeah, there's always this Nintendo computer sounding guitar sections on their music.

Their lyrics are all just random sentences that sound epic and fantastical, but has no real meaning. They sound the same in pretty much all of their songs

ZP Theart was the better lead singer. All the songs are the same "blah blah blood hope glory blah blah fire fury something something" to be true

19 Ramones The Ramones were an American punk rock band that formed in the New York City neighborhood of Forest Hills, Queens, in 1974. They are often cited as the first band to define the punk rock sound.

Kind of the same problem as AC/DC. Same formula, same chemistry, distinctive vocal work. Know 4 songs, know them all.

20 The Beatles The Beatles were an English pop rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Are you kidding me? The Beatles is like the most diverse musical act of all time. Even their ballads sound very different. For example Love me do and I want to hold your hand to Yesterday to Penny lane to in my life. Whoever listed The Beatles here don't know anything about music.

No. Their style was constantly changing. Heck, the White Album itself is a myriad of styles.

Yes because Helter Skelter and Let It Be sounds the same.

21 Nirvana Nirvana was an American grunge band that was formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. Nirvana disbanded after Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994. The drummer of the band, David Grohl, went on to start the Foo-Fighters, an alternative rock band... read more

Their music isn't really repetitive. All Apologies doesn't sound like Teen Spirit or The man who sold the world. They don't deserve on this list.

A lot of Nirvana songs have gibberish lyrics followed by a occasional grunt or scream. And with average guitar playing, decent singing but yeah definitely sounds the same to me.

Are you serious? I'm not even a Nirvana fan, but there's absolutely no way that they belong on this list. At least they have a bit of variety.

22 BTS (Bangtan Boys) BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a seven-member South Korean boy band formed in Seoul in 2013. RM is the leader and the other members are V, Jimin, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, and Jungkook

All I hear from these softies are auto tunes. That's right, all their music have auto tunes. But wait, where are the rappers? Definitely they all sound the same.

I think I've heard a few songs here and there but I can't even remember anything about them

23 Slipknot Slipknot is an American metal band formed in Des Moines, Iowa in 1996. Formed in 2004, the group currently consists of vocalist Oliver Sykes, guitarist Lee Malia, bassist Matt Kean, drummer Matt Nicholls, and keyboardist Jordan Fish. They are signed to RCA Records globally and Columbia Records exclusively... read more

Like I said this band is a wannabe Three Days Grace. At least Three Days Grace actually starts their songs off with normal singing before the screaming parts happen. But with Bring Me The Horizon not so much, they scream as soon as a song starts, and unlike TDG don't have a good guitar player, drummer, bass player or singer. Overall a very terrible band of the 2000's that doesn't put any EFFORT into their music.

25 Creed Creed is an American post-grunge band, formed in 1993 in Tallahassee, Florida. The band's best-known line-up consisted of lead vocalist Scott Stapp, guitarist and vocalist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips.
