Top 10 Barrel Chested Singers

Metal_Treasure
A barrel chest looks like the name implies - broad and deep chest that is abnormally round and bulging. Barrel chest is related to an increase in the diameter of the chest wall resembling the shape of a barrel.
Barrel chest may be normal in infants and adults, but can also indicate health issues.

Barrel chested people usually have a large ribcage, large lung capacity and very round torso. The upper body strength can be potentially great.

Native people who live at altitudes of over 5500 m (the Himalayas or the Andes) naturally develop a barrel chest.

Also, barrel chest probably has something to do with singing. Strenuous breathing exercises can lead to barrel chests - the diaphragm will "flow" into whatever shape the chest cavity is positioned.

The Top Ten

1 Luciano Pavarotti Luciano Pavarotti Luciano Pavarotti, Cavaliere di Gran Croce was an Italian operatic tenor who also crossed over into popular music, eventually becoming one of the most commercially successful tenors of all time.

Best singer EVER! He leaves all the pop/rock jocks way, way behind the starting blocks.

If you've got it, flaunt it & Luciano Pavarotti's big barreled chest allowed him to sing more beautifully & more powerfully than any other singer ever.

His chest is much larger than normal - Metal_Treasure

He reminds me of Danny DeVito.

2 Enrico Caruso Enrico Caruso

Nice to see possibly the greatest male voice in history getting a few props. Only very old and primitive recordings exist, but his is probably the only voice that rivals or exceeds Pavarotti's.

3 Joe Lynn Turner Joe Lynn Turner Joe Lynn Turner is an American singer, known for his works with hard rock/metal bands Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen and Deep Purple.

He himself explained "This is why a lot of big singers have barrel chests, because of this muscle development. For a small guy, I have this huge chest because of these muscles in the solar-plexus area." - Metal_Treasure

4 Paul Sorvino

Actor (Law & Order) and opera singer.
“I have the typical tenor’s build,” says Sorvino, “The barrel chest, the broad face, very big upper body and very long, slender legs.”
As for the voice: “The color is baritonal. The volume is considerably louder than most tenors.” - Metal_Treasure

5 Renée Fleming
6 Gaspare Pacchierotti

He was a famous castrato opera singer (1740-1821).
Castrati were usually tall, with a large barrel-shaped chest, infantile larynx, long, spindly legs. Pacchierotti's bones confirmed these characteristics.
From the end of the 16th to the whole 18th century, the prepuberal castration was carried out to preserve the male voice into adult life. - Metal_Treasure
