I have read that John Lennon said that this song hasn't really a meaning. He said that he wanted to write something that could resemble Bob Dylan's style and he wanted to prove to himself that he could do that. However, I think that John didn't feel close to this song and that he didn't view it as one of his best. It was just a phase for him, an experiment.
