Top 10 Best 3D Platformers of All Time

To make it fair I will do one game per series feel free to comment and please respect my opinion

The Top Ten Best 3D Platformers of All Time

1 Super Mario 64

Great, memorable music, good graphics for the time, levels made to be replayable and are like small open worlds that you can just run around in with the amazing movement mechanics that feel great. Incredibly fun atmosphere and the controls. The controls are amazing with any controller and the movement systems all link together beautifully to make some of the best speed runs of any game. They're easy to get a grip on but takes time to master them.. Only problem with it is that it was the first of its kind so it didn't invent too many new level mechanics such as something like Mario galaxy does.

When a game comes out in 1996, and I still find it enjoyable to play in 2017, the game has truly transcended anything before it. This and Donkey Kong Country are the only two games I can sit down, play, and still be amazed after all these years.

Super mario 64 is awesome why is it number 4 IT NEEDS TO BE NUMBER ONE it was not the first 3d game but it was the first known 3d game plus it was the first 3d mario game this game deserves to be at least in the top 3

An amazing game that redefined the platforming genre. Super Mario 64's atmosphere, game play, tight controls and revolutionary camera angels made this game a hit for its time. Although the game isn't perfect, it's still a blast to play today and it's a shame it this masterpiece isn't just a little higher up on the list.

2 Banjo-Kazooie

By far, my #1 favorite game, of all genres, of all time (With Banjo-Tooie and The Last of Us in 2nd and 3rd place). I got this game on the N64 for my 11th birthday in August of 1998, fell in love with it then, and still adore it to this day.

I just absolutely LOVE this game. From the well written and funny dialogue, amazing graphics for its time (its honestly still a gorgeous game), memorable characters, well designed worlds, solid gameplay, memorable and beautiful music... The N64 game was amazing, and the Xbox 360 port made it perfect. There is so much to love here. Highly recommended!

In many regards it is Super Mario 64's lesser known little brother, but to me it is a lot better. The fun levels, the music and what you are able to do thanks to Kazooie makes this my favorite N64 game!

Yes, the best. I will love it always, no matter what video games come out. It will always be my favorite, as well as tooie.

Mario and friends have no character. Banjo and friends have great personalities.

3 Super Mario Galaxy 2

Mario 64 was great. It was nostalgic. But I like this better. Best 3d mario game. I will probably forever think that mario world is the best mario game. And the best game in general.

So much variety, by far the best 3D Mario game

The soundtrack is phenomenal, and so are the level gimmicks! - Synchronocity

So beautiful... so much content... and most of all... FUN!

4 Spyro: Year of the Dragon

Without a doubt the best 3D platformer I've ever played. It has beautiful presentation, every world you visit is absolutely wonderful. The soundtrack is amazing. There is so much variety in the gameplay. There are even new playable characters and they are all just as fun to play as Spyro. The bosses are great and there are a ton of collectibles to keep you playing the game for several hours. Such a fantastic game.

Perfect from top to bottom, Spyro: Year Of The Dragon is utterly magnificent in every single way, with perfectly balanced gameplay, an enormous amount of mission variety and creative, unforgettable levels. Even if its pretty dated-looking cutscenes continue to be incredible charming.

Better than Mario 64! I know it changed Platform, But SPYRO perfected it even with a 4 legged creature!

5 Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped

This was one of the first games I played. Honestly it is still unmatchable. I played through Super Mario 64, and that was good. But this, THIS was REaLLy good. It's so good because, like original Mario games, it's just levels, only in 3D. Plus, the enemies, environments, cartoonish insanity, and magnificent, fun levels all made it such a great and awesome game.

So many people grew up with this amazing game and character! Sure, Mario64 deserves the top spot for practically revolutionising video games in general, but it was Crash who perfected it and improved it in many ways! Crash & Mario are both legends! :D

The list is ok, but in my opinion Super Mario world, Super Mario 3 or Super Mario Bros. Should be in the top 5. Not to mention the first Ratchet & Clank should be in place of Up Your Arsenal.

I can't lie I love this game because of the great boss battles and the designs - Kingjon15

6 Conker's Bad Fur Day

I remember one time my mom almost bought me this game on the xbox but I was so disappointed it was rated Mature, but now I can see why they rated it M. - myusernameisthis

The only game on this list that features a segment that involves collecting pacifist bees to tickle a particularly large breasted sunflower so that you can distract her and bounce on her boobs to collect a wodge of cash.

Rare's best game and one of my favorite games of all time.

Rare delivered a very mature rated game

7 Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom

My main nostalgia goes to the movie game, and while it did solve many of the issues I had with Battle For Bikini Bottom by making the abilities improvable, making the game (specifically boss fights) more challenging as well as adding the awesome Krabby patty car and the shell riding stages, Battle For Bikini Bottom still nailed 3d platforming better in terms of use of abilities and open space to collect the collectable items. Stages are bigger, you can play as Sandy, you have 13 stages rather than 7 and the end game quota for the final stage, while bigger, is more fair than the movie game, which was very linear and thus made you do a lot of backtracking (and yeah I know you can easily teleport between stages but BFBB you can grab nearly all of the golden spatulas without going back to previous stages and in the movie game it's impossible because you have to obtain the car driving and shell riding goofy goober tokens). What really makes me like BFBB more than the other 3d platformers ...more

Well I'm only 13 but I have been playing games since I was 2 and this was my first game on the Xbox Original and it was by far one of the best platformers I have ever played in fact I still play to this day just to bring back the memories of the godd ol days

Best game 2018

8 Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back

I love this game!

Without a doubt, the best Ctash game ever

9 Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy

Favorite video game of all time. Beautiful open world and great controls. Not too much of a challenge but extremely fun, with exotic characters

This Game has one advantage over every other entry in this list, NO LOAD TIMES! Plus it has phenomenal controls and tons of collectables in a large open world to explore with your own wits.

My all time Favorite game with likable characters, named my dog after Daxter.

Such a great game. Should be higher on the list for sure. - The8Bit

10 Super Mario Galaxy

This game is revolutionary and beautifully takes on a cinematic adventure with clever gameplay and lovely music

I mean he said 1 mario game and already there is 3 in the top 20! - computerfan0

This is super mario Galaxy the best mario game ever!

The Newcomers

? Ed, Edd & Eddy: The Mis-Edventures

The Contenders

11 Tomb Raider
12 Ratchet & Clank Up Your Arsenal

No other game in the world could ever match the badassary provided in Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal. Everything in this game is flawless. Story is great, controls are tight, weapons have a ton of variety and make the gameplay intense, and even the games on-line multiplayer is phenomenal (it's still being played to do this day! ). Mario and Jak are good, but this is KICK-ASS!

It was more than just a game. The family feeling and all the adventure... It really rocked my world when I was a kid. Best game ever. Thanks for the memories.

Ratchet and Clank Up your Arsenal kicks everyone's ass! Mario should bow to Ratchet and Clank.
Ratchet and Clank are kings!
Mario stinks!

Insomniac games was probably one of the best makers of 3D platformers in the PS1-PS2 Era. Fun fact: They made spyro too

13 Sonic Adventure

Sonic Colours and Generations are better Sonic games than these!

So many childhood memories! It was an extremely cringy game, even as a kid, but I think it's vibrant environments and presentation deserve some credit.

One of the best Sonic Games out there
It has awesome level design, good handle physics, good story and just awesome music
Yes, Big and Amy are no good, but they are short, so this is not as much as a problem

14 Banjo-Tooie
15 Donkey Kong 64

So much to collect!

16 Pac Man World 2

Excellent, relatively unknown. Where it really shines is the level design and themes.

This is so much fun! Why is it not on here yet.

17 Sly 2: Band of Thieves

I wish it was as well known as Ratchet & Clank or Jak & Daxter.

Amazing flow, really stylistic, really solid gameplay.

If you haven't played it, you're missing out.

Sly Cooper is an awesome series.

18 Jumping Flash!
19 A Hat in Time

One of the best games I played in 2017, A Hat in Time is the kind of game where I could get lost for 5 hours collecting everything in the first world, not knowing that I'm only 5% of the way done. There is so much to keep me invested and playing each and every world, and the only reason why I don't play it too often is because of my awful space bar, otherwise I'd have over 50+ hours in it by now. It's great to see games that make it through a long development cycle successfully every now and again. - nerffan8000

I love this game to pieces, it's an incredible game and deserves more love.

20 Rayman 2: The Great Escape

Easily one of the greatest games ever made, the tightest controls I've ever handled, incredible level design with the shells and slide stages, a fabulous creepy dark and gloomy atmosphere and world, a lovable cast of characters all culminate to the best (or second best to Mario 64) platformer of all time

This has to be higher up. Good controls, good music, good atmosphere, and the goods keep on coming

Great game. Sadly, it doesn't seem like it had many (if any) good ports...

Where the hell is this game on the list. It has to be in the top 5!

21 Super Mario 3D Land

Perfect blend of 2D and 3D mario.

Bland, forgettable,and underwhelming - myusernameisthis

22 Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

The first video game I've played and I still like to speedrun time to time. masterpiece

23 Super Mario Sunshine

Why is stupid galaxy above this masterpiece? - myusernameisthis

24 Psychonauts
25 Jumping Flash! 2
26 Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
27 Mega Man X7
28 Spyro the Dragon

My favorite game of all time. The music, the level design, the characters, all create such an amazing atmosphere for adventure.

I don't wanna seem rude here, but the first Spyro game was the first full 3D platformer, I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.

29 Gex 3 Deep Cover Gecko
30 The Misadventures of Tron Bonne
31 Sonic Adventure 2
32 Sonic Generations
33 Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc

The last Rayman game where the characters had CHARACTER. The new 2d ones have good gameplay but none of the charm this one had.
Hope they bring back Rayman in 3D

34 Super Magnetic Neo
35 Ty the Tasmanian Tiger
36 Sonic Adventure 2 Battle

Sonic Heroes? Best 3D Sonic platformer? Rubbish. This game is a lot more fun.

37 Super Mario 3D World

Really fun game

38 Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time

Such a fun and expansive world to explore, and the controls are silky smooth. Combining the awesome story and diverse combat and platforming elements makes for a really enjoyable experience overall.

39 Kya: Dark Lineage

Love this game it's so much fun.

40 Tomba! 2
41 Crash Twinsanity
42 Jersey Devil

I would like to point out that it is very underrated and is a good game - Kingjon15

43 Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!

The best of the 3 spyros on ps1. Amazing movement options and a great speedrun to watch.

For me Spyro is the hight at which all 3Ds should aspire to. Soundtrack of my childhood in all 3 original games but it's this one that made me fall in love with platformers.

44 Crash Bandicoot
45 Bomberman Hero

Seriously underrated gem. Definitely check it out if you own an N64.

46 Whiplash
47 Sonic Heroes

48 Tearaway

This is the most enjoyable platformer I have ever played through!

49 Wario World
50 Jak II

Best story, solid gameplay, memorable characters, fun challenge and such great soundtracks.

Not a "pure" as the first one, Jak II still is an amazing game
