The Contenders: Page 2
Is like the Game of Thrones theme, except metal and with better subject matter.
Absolutely mesmerizing and really seeps into my heart...I nearly cried from feeling it! Awesome guitar and bass!
This one and The Hero, can't understand why they aren't ranked higher... just awesome, a pure energizer - live as well!
Good song, but its pretty much a rip-off of Gods of War Arise from the previous album.V 4 Comments
I'm surprised this one isn't on more AA setlists. It's short, fast, and probably the most brutal thing ever. This song could rip your head off and swallow it whole if it wanted too. Basically, it's just a bunch of references to their past songs, with lines like "See us ride for vengeance, friends of the Suncross, see us riding down the Amon Amarth... "
And that's not to mention the subtle message in the chorus, 'We... Made the false hammer fall... " What does that mean? Turns out Amon Amarth had a short lived feud with Hammerfall, and kicked their asses.
Deserves to be considered as the anthem of the metal world! - hio
An awesome song describing the old Viking way of revenge
This Song should be under the top ten for sure! Just listen to the first 10 seconds and your head will go BANG BANG BANG! I guarantee it. The guitars are just brilliant!
I can't understand why this song is so underrated, it's a masterpiece! By far the best song of Amon Amarth!
Don't know why this is so low on the list, but the chorus just speaks to me. We. Shall. DIE!
Starting to look like everyone who's heard it think it's the best song ever, me incuded. Not really a fan of death metal, but the lyrics and chords makes it all worth while. Whenever I listen to this song it makes me want to kill a man... In a good way
This needs to be higher! It's too good not to be.V 1 Comment
This song is sick, and Apocalyptica's part in it sends shivers down my spine. - sirbradford
This is one of the best song though I can say it can't be because apocalyptica has a part of it
Guys, really: How is this down here at FORTY!? There is almost no other Amon Amarth song as "headbang-able" as Coming of the Tide. This melodic display of anger, sorrow and vengeance compares to none of its kind.
Warning: TRY NOT TO HEADBANG!
Easily their best song on their best album. Simply amazing finale, all their live recordings of this one are insane. Check it out on their DVD Wrath of The Norsemen.
This song have their best solo
The Greatest and most epic song by Amon Amarth. Johans personal favorite I feel like crying with joy every time I hear it.
Are you serious? A song like this should be at a higher spot. The beginning of the song is so beautiful! Hell the entire thing is so beautiful! It definitely beats Death in a Fire!
Possibly one of the greatest Melo-death songs ever written
One of my favorites, truly beautiful!
Must be top 5. It's my personal favorite. My top10:
1. For Victory or Death (SR)
2. Where Silent Gods Stand Guard (VStW)
3. Runes to my Memory (Wooos)
4. The Way of Vikings (Jomsviking)
5. Twilight of the thunder god (TotTG)
6. The Avenger (TA)
7. The Pursuit of Vikings (FoN)
8. Valhall awaits me (Wooos)
9. Prediction of warfare (Wooos)
10. Back on Northern Shores (Jomsviking)
20? I think I've got some issues with my sight! This song is one great masterpiece that will leave you shaken for a few minutes after it ends. Definitely one of the best, if not the best. The regretful feelings of a man is turned into music with all its emotional power. A masterpiece at its worst.
Where is that song... M... Great missing
A story of a man who spent all his life on searching for riches. In his dying bed he realises that his life has been wasted since there's no one who remembers him after he dies. All his adventures had been waste since no runestones will be raised in name of his glory. All that he wants is to go back and re-live his life. Unfortunately it is already too late for that. Only dark, bitter and cold grave awaits him.
All friends and
cattle pass away!
And death will come
For every man!
But I know
One thing never dies!
The sentence passed
Upon the dead! ''
This comes from an old norse saying that in the end all cattle die, kindred die, every man is mortal: But the good name never dies, of one who has done well.
On top of it all. The music is just perfect for the scene. Powerful, emotional and heavy. Johan Hegg has said that this song is so depressing that he doesn't even want to talk about it in an interview. That should ...more
My favorite by far. Such powerful lyrics and an amazing story of standing honorably no matter the repercussions.
I'm just voting so this gets a higher ranking honestly. The top 10 is fine the way it is. - Timmah
SO epic, might not be their best but it deserves to be higher in the ranking for sure
This song has one of their riffs ever! LISTEN FIRST...THEN VOTE!V 3 Comments
Why in the name of oden is this song this low? This song should be in the top tens, it truly is, a sad, remarkable song, indeed. For example when he sings "But it was too late to save his son! " I am just so enraged on how low this song is just wow! So dissapointing.
Brilliant song! A sum of everything Amon Amarth has to offer
Ever since their first album, Once Sent From the Golden Hall, was released, Victorious March has been a staple of every live show Amon Amarth has put on. Ever. You won't find another AA song so full of righteous fury and burning hatred, loaded with bitter aggression against the hypocrite Christians, except maybe...
Really love the guitar riffs. Very melodic tune and it just keeps getting better by the minutes.
This is the Amon Amarth song for me! A melo-death masterpiece and the song that started my love for this amazing band
This song got me into AA and to be more specific to the metal genreV 7 Comments
... This one. Thousand Years is unique among AA songs, building slowly but steadily before halting into an almost crooning Johan, who whispers with his guttural voice about the sacrifice of Odin. Almost as suddenly, he explodes back into the heavy thundering of Olavi's guitar. Screaming in rage and admiration for the lost age of Berserkers and Pagan Gods, this is undoubtedly one of Amon Amarth's most emotional songs.
This is definitely top 3. Much better than cry of the blackbird. Sucks that its all the way down here.
This song definitely deserves the top tens, when I first heard this song I almost broke to tears, it's filled with anger, sadness, and pain things that make metal, metal.
Just badass, saw it live...wow!V 7 Comments
Although recent this is a fine addition to any playlist, certainly top 10 material, short but certainly sweet.
Following in the vein of Thousand Years of Oppression, Stabwounds starts off slow, mournful, and melodic, before turning into a punch in the face. The brutality levels on this one are well over nine thousand, and the drummers bass pedal feels like it's using your stomach as a bass drum. My only complaint: it feels like it could have been a really good as a ten-minute epic ballad.
Feels like Stabwounds in the back! Stellar work! My current headbanger
An absolute hymn, especially live a killer. Great song overall
One of the most emotional songs I've listened. Deserves to be way higher.
At 01:35 there's a sad melodic sound which is simply breathtaking
Ending brings tears so much honor and glory
Seriously why is this at 35? The tone the deep growls and the changing of dark to mellow guitar rifts and solos are f'ing amazing.V 1 Comment
Why this one is not on top 10 come on people!
Johan's voice on this one is terrifyingly brilliant. Maybe my favorite Amon Amarth song in drop-A (unless it's standard A). I am the walker on the wind...the Shape Shifter!
Has to at least in the top 20. M/
Awesome song deserves to be at leas top 20
Top 5 song, just awesomeV 2 Comments
