Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Jeff Kinney

I hate diary of a wimpy kid! Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not an adult who doesn't enjoy the bland humor of these books, I don't even count as a teenager! I adore books that actually have a plot and character development where I can imagine a movie in my head without (poorly drawn) pictures. I'd much rather read Harry Potter than this! These books hardly count as books at all! I don't really like the kinds of books with too many pictures and not enough words. The only books similar to these ones that I like are Dork Diaries. Now those are funny! Over all, Harry Potter remains my favorite book series. And this is coming out of a young child!

I get what you mean. For me, dork diaries is OKAY. Could definitely be better. And guess what? I don't count as a teenager either! And I'm definitely NOT an adult. - FennikenFan9

No, there is no real character development or strong plot. But we enjoy it because unlike so many books today, its characters and themes are relatable on every level. It's an entertaining read, and it's actually kind of sickening that people are calling this a money grab and not Dork Diaries. Really? Diary of a Wimpy Kid is popular and suddenly Dork Diaries appears with the same simple designs and concepts and everyone calls it the more original of the two. Diary of a Wimpy Kid may be getting redundant, but it's never been a boring read, and in this day and age, that's a rare find.

THIS SHOULD NOT BE NUMBER SIX! Okay okay, don't get me wrong, I love this series and think it's great, for younger kids. I'll sometimes read it for fun, just for a short walk down memory lane, but six? Really? It's good, but it's not that good. I can think of ten other books that are better than this that aren't on this list already. No character development, they all just stay the same and it's like Greg has been in middle school for like, ten years. Really, this should be top fifty, not top ten. - SassyEquine

This is a good book. I really like it. But really? 6th place above amazing stories like The Lightning Thief, Catching Fire, Divergent, The Maze Runner, Eragon, and Artemis Fowl? This book technically doesn't even have a story. - SammySpore

I really like this book because it leads to the popularity of the series. By the way my favourite series. The jokes in the book is funny. There's kind of a plot to it. About a boy in his first year of middle school named, Greg. This is the only series that I like reading and I read it for the whole summer.

Percy Jackson is way funnier than Diary of a Wimpy kid. Harry Potter has better...well, everything. Kids should read those books instead of crap like this.

I don't think this is a good book by any means but these comments are sad. "There's no plot structure or character development or symbolism, it's only purpose is to be funny..." Seriously? You guys are acting like there is only one genre of book. I agree it's not a very intelligent book but who says a book has to be in order to be good? Is there only one viable type of book with one structure and it needs to have x y and z or else it isn't a real book? Like, Christ people, open your minds... this isn't a good example of a good differently-structured book but don't act like that's the only reason why it sucks.

This list is so horrendous. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is not the 6th best book ever written.

Pretty sure this is the BEST book... for annoying 4th graders with a low Reading Counts score. I mean honestly!

Not bad, it is actually good. However, I do not think it should be in the top ten because there is not a lot of literature or morals like Harry Potter and other books have. - AnimeDrawer

This book should BURN IN THE FIREY PITS OF HELL! Take it off the list! Everyone is so dumb in it!

Come on, people! This graphic novel is so dumb and overrated. It has no plot, the characters are dull, and the only audience it has is sad 11 year old kids looking for something they can relate to.

Sorry but, I hate this series. I find it's humor not funny cause it's in every book.
Manny= annoying baby that gets away with everything
Greg's Mom= acting like her family is in preschool
Greg= has a lot of drama
Rodrick= annoying to everyone
Greg's dad: telling the truth which greg or rodrick don't believe - spodermanfan1000

How in the world is this number six.

Diary is a completely hilarious book, I really don't see why people would hate it. Sure its not for everyone, but these books are made for laughs.

How the heck is this number 6? This is above "Catching Fire"! I thought only second and third graders liked this book.

Good children book, but not close to being the best book out there, even in the genre.

I'm Sorry, but why is everyone complaining that the catcher in the rye was ranked underneath this. This is a nostalgic comic powerhouse and Catcher in the Rye is nothing but sex, drugs and stupidity.

Let's see, an unfunny children's book at number 8, the bible's number 1, and the books by Leo Tolstoy are no higher than 60. This list has severe problems.

Not even a book. I see kids in grade 8 reading this and doing book reports on it. It makes me mad that this is number 7...

I'm saying this for the whole Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series. They are hilarious, and I'm pretty sure they made up the hit game "The Cheese Touch." The movies are good, and the characters are funny. This is a good series. - turtwig

This book has no good moral values and the main character, Greg, is selfish, arrogant, greedy, prideful, and very bratty and rude. - RedTheGremlin

This book was good, not the best though. However, Greg is a terrible person. He will use his own friends to further his own gain.

I recently got the last book I needed I mean its on the cover international best seller! It comes with loads of pictures and loads of writing I am a fan and I love it SO much should be at least 4th (because my mum is a Christian and I Love the hunger games and hobbit) I guess this is one of the greatest books of all time and if your going to vote for something else read the red DOAWK first and you will help this book go to 1st

This was my favorite book series as a kid, I still crack up reading these to this day! - Phillip873
