Why Radiohead is, in fact, Britpop

Adrian_4 I just can't get over the vast assumption that most of this list's voters have, and that is that Radiohead is not Britpop.

Their whole discography may not be eligible for Britpop - other than (at least) one album.

The Bends (and, actually, Pablo Honey even more so) simply can't be classified as much other than Britpop.

Whether or not the rest of Radiohead's discography follows a similar pattern - is actually irrelevant.

Somebody said "Kid A is like the polar opposite of Britpop". And I agree Kid A isn't Britpop.
But not because it's electronica and electronic rock etc.
Only because Britpop was long over by the time it was released.
If Kid A had been released in 1995, it would be Britpop.

Well, that's my two cents. Thank you for reading this. Comment if you will.

Not sure if the year a record was released is a good reason to say what genre it was. If Nevermind came out in 2008 what genre would you then consider it? - Powell

Britpop means specifically the period of British music (and not just music) in mid-90s, lasting until 1999 at the very latest.
It's not very much different with grunge, either, but asking what genre Nevermind would be if it was from 2008 is irrelevant, since, well, that's not the case. - Adrian_4

It's O.K if you don't have an opinion on this (I guess it is a weird question) but I wonder would K Pop be a real sub genre to you. I had often thought it wasn't because it was only pop music that happened to be made in Korea. - Powell
