Best Childrens Book Series

The Top Ten Best Childrens Book Series

1 Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

I believe harry potter has become a classic now. It shouldn't be categorised as a children's book! - srishti15

This book series is the best. Best part about harry potter is that every person can read the book. A child will be fascinated by the magical school, teenager will love the couples and a matured adult will notice the small life lessons, little details, depth of each character. This book is for all ages. Percy Jackson is great too, Rick Riordan did a great job in blending mythology with reality. But unlike Harry Potter, these books will be relatable for teenagers only. So this is nowhere close to Harry Potter

The top 2 here are some of the best books I have ever read I still binge read both series over and over again

Harry Potter is one of the best things that has happened to my life. Finished the 7th book at the end of year 2 (I always was an enthusiastic reader) and never stopped re-reading it. Harry Potter is the only series I know of that has fantastic Movies and books. Recommended for any age!

2 Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan

WHY ISN'T THIS FIRST? Percy Jackson has everything you could ever want in a book, and it has made me laugh, cry, smile, and obsess my life over it.

I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH! Although I like the Heroes Of Olympus better, but why isn't this or the HoO series number 1?!?!

These books is like Harry Potter, but also completely different. Whilst special children go to a school of magic in Harry Potter, special children in Percy Jackson go to a camp for demigods, children of the greek gods. The action is fast-paced and amazing. I suggest reading these before Harry Potter if you want to be an advanced reader. Either way, best books of all time!

Percy Jackson and all of Rick Riordan's books are the best! The characters are awesome and the books are always exciting and never repetitive. Furthermore it also gives the modern generation knowledge of ancient history. If you read any of the Percy Jackson books you will fall in love. I rest my case. - Oreo_xo

3 Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney

These books are not good for children at all! As a child, I hate these books and would way rather read Harry Potter and begin reading Percy Jackson. These books encourage kids to become worse readers, and the books never give you any important details about what's going on. Honestly, it's harder to understand than Harry Potter! Greg is a terrible character, along with his mom, brothers, dad, and Rowley. They aren't the least bit funny and encourage kids to slack off. Perhaps this is making kids dumber?

These are always funny and their is always a twist I love them

No, this doesn't deserve to be above Harry Potter. Harry can be an ass sometimes, but he never abused his friends like Greg did to Rowley. Also, you probably only call HP "boring" because it's long. How else could you call a series about a boy who discovers that he's a wizard & travels to a world full of witches, wizards, & magical creatures boring?! Not to mention HP has a way more intriguing plot than DOAWK. Also, "satanic"? This is 2019. I love HP, & I don't go around worshipping Satan. I don't hate DOAWK, in fact, it holds a special place in my heart, & you're allowed to like it, but you can't say it's better than HP for dumb reasons. It deserves a place on this list, but not this high. Warrior Cats, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Wings of Fire, & Sideways Stories From Wayside School deserve this spot. - RoseWeasley

How could you NOT vote this? hairy porty is just a devil's child that is Satanic - JasePowers

4 The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

CHILDREN'S BOOK SERIES?! No. I don't even know why this is considered a book even appropriate for children. (I think it should be, but I am surprised others don't disagree). Also A Series of Unfortunate Events was extremely repetitive and had an unsatisfying ending. This and Harry Potter are the best children's books with Percy Jackson coming close behind.

Some people say that this book is 'not appropriate' for children. Stop being so condescending! I am 12, and I read the series when I was roughly 10. Depriving a child of a surprisingly mature age (like 10) is pretty much taking away a brilliant modern classic. Like saying 'you are to young to read this. Read the books I tell you to read.'

Anyway, I do like the books, but it is a bit disappointing... I loved the fact that Katniss was a physically strong female character, but emotionally? No... she spent most of her time debating whether she loved Gale or Peeta more... Peeta was whiny in the movies, not like the charming and able person in the books.

I've read the whole Harry Potter series, including the eighth one, and I do think it is better than The Hunger Games, but The Hunger Games is truly amazing with its suspense and intensity. I loved this series so much and I still do. I finished Harry Potter when I was eleven and I just finished the Hunger Games series. (I'm twelve.)

Everyone knows what the hunger games are, unless they have been living under a rock. Fantastically written, Extremely good plot, and a touch of romance. Team Peeta! Recommended for 12-50 year olds.

5 The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

This classic fantasy series should be WAY higher on this list - Starsparks

I love this story, literally, it's awesome!

C.S.'s work paved the way for J.K. - CeruleanAzure

I love The Chronicles of Narnia. Specially Aslan. I wish I would be as lucky as Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter to step foot in Narnia (Eustace and Jill too). I like HarryPotter series too.

6 Little House On the Prairie

Even though it's very old, it's still amazing, and it goes and and still will for many generations

A heart-warming story with a bit of history thrown in. I still read these over and over. - CeruleanAzure

I am reading this book right now so good my grandma rea r it and my mom best book ever

Is a great book!

7 A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket

If you like mysteries, humor, and creepy books than this is the series for you. This series leaves you on so many cliffhangers and always leaves you wanting to find out more, and in the end the Baudilares don't find out every piece of information they need to know but this story has a very sweet ending. This book always leaves you hanging after a book or a chapter, which always kept me interested and I kept reading on and on in each book wanting to find out more. This book series also shows that even kids can survive on their own and able to do the same adults are capable of doing on their own. The children in this series are great role models for children telling them that even though you are just a child you a can make decisions for yourself and it always okay to not know the answers or be afraid. Children can also learn that you can use your own strengths to solve problems. To all parents I am in college and read this series as a kid it taught me lessons about how to handle ...more

Lemony Snicket did a spectacular job doing this, and for the people saying it is repetitive, it is not, but I will try not to get mad at you. Lemony is very humorous while writing in a witty way, and the series is very frighteningly dark. Also, I like the mystery part as the Baudelaire's try to find about VFD and how everything is connected. Lemony shows how not everything has a happy ending, but doesn't do this in a way that is "scary." The characters are very resourceful, and the books grow stronger and stronger. There is actually tiny bits of romance as well, for anyone interested in that. The ending was very emotional and strong, and Lemony rapped it up in the most amazing way any author has done, making this my favorite series.

(the hunger games was also good, but it isn't a child series, and parts of it in MockingJay were boring) - MaxAurelius

This book series will blow your mind. Being a child of three children this makes me wonder what my brothers and I do in this situation? Would we be okay? This is scary, suspenseful, mysterious, and honestly and utterly amazing. I love it so much. They need MORE books. - SoccerFan

This is more well written than all of the above book series. I don't understand how a book that uses figurative devices as LITERAL devices cannot be #1. I love grammar, and I loved this book.

8 39 Clues by Various Authors.

While I prefer Hunger Game and Harry Potter and such, I still love this series. By the time there got to be like a million sub-series, it got less good, but I liked the first 2 series! WHY DID NOBODY LIKE DAY OF DOOM OR WHATEVER THE FINAL BOOK IN SERIES 2 WAS CALLED? That was really good! Also Into the Gauntlet from the first series. I also like how there are a bunch of different authors and yet they manage to make every book the same style.

It gives you information about various events in history, but not in a boring way-it adds adventure, characters, suspense and much, much more. This is something you must read.

Great books, but be warned that it is generally hard to find all of them at one library.

Best books epic amazing suspense

9 Warriors by Erin Hunter

These books have EVERYTHING. Action, adventure, suspense, romance...an amazing series.

These are just the absolute best books in my opinion. It goes through many human problems, like war, racism, forbidden love, racial stereotypes, murder, greed and other stuff. - BlueberryCatfish

Love these books. There is adventure, mysteries, and a little bit of romance. These books are just amazing!

Been reading them since 2008, been in love with the books ever since! It's really unlike any other children's book, combining mystery, action, adventure, fantasy, and about.5% comedy. It also features a huge but not complicated story, doing a great job explaining what is going on, likable characters, and is still going strong after nearly 15 years! - Maxo

10 Geronimo Stilton Series by Geronimo Stilton

The series is okay, but what really creeps me out is that you don't know the author (Geronimo Stilton is not real)

Amazing, great for all ages. As a 13 year old, I still crack up reading them. So many puns, but they are super cute.

I have a lot of these books and I like them a lot. They are very unique and can educational at times.

I LOVE THESE BOOKS! They are all so different and fun to read!

The Contenders

11 Dork Diaries by Rachel Renee Russell

I love that book! It's original, funny, and awesome! Not many books are like this so if you like drama, check it out!

Dork diaries is original, funny, and awesome! It can be dramatic at times but if you like that kind of stuff, check it out!

This sucks so much. It's a shame it's even in the list - NESSquid

Yep, yep, yep. This NEEDS to be in at LEAST the top 5. I love the new book, Drama Queen.

12 Goosebumps by R.L.Stine

Honestly the BEST childrens series out there! Can't wait for Goosebumps 2:Haunted Halloween!

It's not that scary, but they ARE pretty good.

OOHHH spooky! Love them! The scariest one is ether Night Of The Puppet People of Attack Of The Gravyard Ghouls.

I love this books. I just read planet of the lawn gnomes

13 Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
14 Little Woman by Louisa M. Alcott

A beautiful timeless classic about a dynamic close-knit New England family, the Marches and the struggles and triumphs they encounter in Civil and Post-Civil War America including the daughters forging their own paths: some for love, some for career, some for both, and one on a particularly harrowing journey that unites the whole family. A must read! - Listlover77

Little Woman is a series almost every woman has read. A lovely story about Jo, Beth, Meg and Amy, although very sad when Beth passes. Good Book series. Recommended for 10-16 year old girls

Have seen the movie. Very sad 90s movie. Says it was from 1994. Released by Columbia Pictures. Borrowed the VHS from a old friend at Clear Creek High School. Had the DVD version. - playstationfan66

15 Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborne

Think time travel adventure linked to real historical events in a fictional framework with mischievous children and you have this beloved series. Like a Quantum Leap for the written page and a younger audience. - Listlover77

My fave before I read Harry Potter - Azurin13

Pretty cool

16 Treasure Hunters by James Patterson
17 Tales of A Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume

A charming series about Peter and Fudge, that has everyone Laughing Out Loud. Good for 7-12 year olds.

I thought the character's name was Judy Blume!

18 The Adventures of Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey

This chapter book series was adapted to be a dreamworks movie

It is great, if you are a boy. I think this is not higher because of little girls distain for the good guy failing to get in a nice pair of pleats.

If Sanjay and Craig ever get a book, it would be captain underpants. It's just a bunch of stupid toilet humour in a book

Best Book series must buy and be higher

Overrated and very inappropriate, makes things seem funny, and causes kids to grow up immature. - JoMama163

19 The Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pearson

I love these books there great if u spend most of your time looking up Disney facts

20 Maze Runner - James Dashner

Good

21 Maximum Ride by James Patterson
22 Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan

Okay growing up the books I read went from Magic Tree House as my favorite, then I discovered a new series by Erin Hunter called Warriors that was better so that became my favorite. Then I finally discovered Rangers Apprentice that took reading to a deeper meaning for me. You could connect to the characters and they all were just plain amazing! Will was the main character and while he may not have been my personal favorite he is such a sweet and unique character! Halt was Wills mentor and remember how I said Will wasn't my favorite? That's because Halt is. Halt started out as a grumpy strict mentor for Will but soon became like a father to Will. And don't get me started on Halts backstory! This gruff ranger is actually-okay no spoilers. Horace started out as a bully to Will. Always teasing him and getting into fights with him. But after a life or death experience he had with Will they became best friends. And there are so many more characters that are fantastic that I won't mention ...more

How can the Ranger's Apprentice be 28!?!? It is like one of my all time favorite book series!

There is no way this is 16th on the list it is the best book series I have ever seen I felt a mixture of emotions like when Alyss died I was like no why hath thou done this to me but I must digress this is the greatest, saddest, happiest, most heart pounding, breath taking, and overall the best book series ever written sincerely a concerned 420 blaze it mega uber memelord.

This series is the best! How dare you people put it in 28

23 The Hardy Boys by Franklin W. Dixon

Along with Nancy Drew, one of the most compelling series ever written for younger audiences, but just like their friend Nancy Drew, the Hardy boys adventures transcend across generational lines. Well- written with just the right amount of suspense in engaging narrative style. - Listlover77

24 Ramona Series by Beverly Cleary

One of my favorite series ever. Ramona is spunky, spirited, curious, mischievous, intelligent, energetic, and her misadventures too countless to remember. Told in an engaging, endearing, and realistic style, these books are beloved serials and we come to believe we belong to the Quimbys as they do to whole generations. These are must haves for any primary/elementary school library and for the child in all of us, too! - Listlover77

25 Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

This is my singular most favorite book series as a 13 yr old. Close behind it are Erin Hunter's Warriors and Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games.

The best sci-fi book series for 12-14year olds

Totatly the best!

Not for kids - Swiftdawn

26 Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce

Put on the top of this list that just blew me I have 8 of those books

This book is great funny on so many levels great book

It should be higher. It's awesome, really

Everybody is awesome except francis the nerd

27 Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland

THIS SHOULD BE NO. 1!
i also like a series of unfortunate events and Harry Potter-but this is the BEST!

I like Warrior cats more but this is my second favorite series!

These books are amazing. Like warrior cats it deals with real life problems but it’s written way better. It deals with topics such as racism (rainwings), war (pretty much the first arch), a villain who is more than just evil and that you can sympathise with (darkstalker), generside (rainwings, icewings), the ideologically of that no one is bad or good (fathom about darkstalker). These books are really amazing and coming from a hardcore warriors fan this is my favourite book series ever.

Good series good characters violence and DRAGONS

28 The Magic School Bus - Joanne Cole and Bruce Degan

Educational, informative, and zany... just a few remarkable adjectives to describe this noteworthy series. - Listlover77

The books and the T.V. series were a big part of my childhood. - PerfectImpulseX

29 The Chocolate Box Girls by Cathy Cassidy

The chocolate box is a great series that have romance, sisterhood and chocolate all mixed into one. Good preteen read for girls. Highly Recommend it. Recommended for 12-15 year old girls.

These books are great I just kept reading and reading

Definitely for preteens and teens, so realistic and interesting.

just no

30 Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot

Great, but not as much a children's book. Better for teens, they have some, shall we say, "advanced" concepts. If you like the story but not the advanced-ness in the last couple books, watch the movies. These books are amaze, though.

Princess Diaries was very good, but the last 5 books OLDER READERS ONLY! Recommend for 15-18 year old girls.

This book is pretty cool with such a great author. We love you Meg! I never knew they would come ninth, but since this isn't a teen top ten, I would probably say it is about right. - taylorswift24878

Very inspiring story

31 Alex Rider by Anthony Horowitz

Its awesome! Full of action! All of the books in the series are so thrilling... You just don't feel like stopping!

You will be lost in them until you finish them all. Exceptionally realistic and challenging for the children.

Really awesome, thrilling and simply epic... The second best book series of all time behind harry potter

Very adictive

32 I Funny by James Patterson
33 His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman

I've come back to these a couple of times. I adore Pullman's mix of classical and original mythology, his shady characters and the many mature messages.

Makes me wish I'd picked up Northern Lights when it was published and I was 10 years old, rather than a decade later.

One of the most amazing books I have ever read. His Dark materials is an extremely underrated novel. I would press this book onto any 12 year old who wants to read quality books (unlike Hunger Games and Twilight)

His Dark Materials is a wonderful series that really gets you thinking. Good for 8-12 year olds.

Atheism for kids (still a good series).

34 The Sisters Grimm by Michael Buckley

Great book. I love the characters. I've read Harry Potter but this book for me was better. SO GOOD. People say only popular books are good like Harry Potter but it's not the best there are so many other books people haven't read and that's why the books are so low.

Much better than Harry Potter. There are so many books in the world. Harry Potter is not the best book. Try it out, Honestly, I'm shocked how amazing this book is.

BEST BOOK EVER! Better than harry Potter better than anything in the world

A perfect mix of fairy tale and detective story - Starsparks

35 Lunar Chronicles
36 Alice Miranda by Jacqueline Harvey

Alice-Miranda is a great character, very Sofia the First-ish. I recommend them for 7-10 year olds, but I am 13 and I enjoy these books a lot, and I consider my self a very strong reader. It is hard for me to find good books at my reading level, because I am at a high school junior reading level, but I am going in to eighth grade. The books at my level are either not interesting, or they are inappropriate, so I stick to books that interest me and these are great for that. Love the concept, so cute!

37 The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer

The Land of Stories is the book series of a kid's dream. this books combines the aspects of magic and fairytales with reality and modern day problems! It deserves to be at least a no#7 or no#6. Plus, all of the books come with good and useful messages to young adults and even adults!

This book definitely deserves to be higher on this list, it is a great book that incorporates fairy tales kids heard at the age of like 2-3, and make them more interesting. - harrypotter1

The best series to put fairly tails to pre teens minds

Love this but I'd say from 11-15, not KIDS but not SO NOT KIDS! - Swiftdawn

38 Elementia Chronicles by Sean Fay Wolfe
39 Key to Rondo by Emily Rodda

Key to Rondo is a fantastic series, where you explore the world inside the music box. Draws you in immediately. Recommended for 8-13 year olds,

Yeah, this was okay...but where the hell is Deltora Quest on this list? It is a gazillion times better than all the series on this list COMBINED. Well, apart from Harry Potter and Warriors. Please, if someone sees this, try and find a way to put Deltora Quest on this list. Did Key to Rondo have an anime made for it? No, but Lief, Barda and Jasmine were so damn amazing that THEY got one. Point proven, explanation over.

40 The Royal Diaries by Various Authors

Not sure if Dear America made the list, but they both stem from the Scholastic line. Dear America features everyday boys and girls living in specific time periods including Colonial, Revolutionary, Civil War, Post- Civil War etc. while the Royal Diaries focus on notable characters including Queens and Consorts. Diaries that combine historical events and fictional accounts in epistolary form revealing the inner musings of some well-noted figures including Cleopatra among others to encourage reluctant learners to connect to history, which is really not so far removed as we often believe! - Listlover77

I love this series! - ivylee

41 Tom Gates by Liz Pichon

Why isn't this at 1? Really funny, creative and the writing and drawing is brilliant. No wonder Blue Peter calls L. Pichon the Queen of Doodles just for writing this book!

I like it cause it really funny and creative even though I am a girl

Amazing!

42 Bone by Jeff Smith

Bone appeared in Disney Adventures not too long ago as a comic strip. - playstationfan66

I read out from boneville all the way to half of ghost circles in one whole day... I can't STOP READING IT

43 Spirit Animals by Brandon Mull

This is great! Abeke,Rollan,Conner, and Devin are great main characters they each have a difference they are easy to understand well,Also known as the greencloacks. They must protect the city of Edras. This is a well understanding book.I suggest you read it!

44 Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar

The characters of this wacky school are based has on the author's experiences as a gym teacher. Wayside School is 30 stories high, one classroom per floor, except on the thirteenth floor- because there is none. Also try "Wayside School Gets a Little Stranger" and "Wayside School is Falling Down".

It is really funny because there are these things that are really weird and awesome (for example this girl survives dropping from the top)

It is awesome. That is all I have to say you can put it at the top of the list now.

Very good sense of humor...:D

45 The Railway Series by Wilbert & Christopher Awdry

I am SHOCKED that this isn't higher, this should be at least #3

A must for all Thomas fans. - FinnsWorld

Β€œI love reading when I get back from school The Railway Series is Fun,Adventurousi Just LOVE ITπŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸš‚πŸš‚πŸš‚πŸ˜Ž

46 Tales of the Frog Princess by E.D. Baker

This book was the main inspiration for The Princess and the Frog (2009). One of the characters (shown in the feature film) is a good alternative to the character Princess Emeralda/Emma: Princess Maddy/Tiana (voiced by Anika Noni Rose). - shelleyduvallfan10

Tales of the Frog Princess -> The Princess & the Frog (Disney) - playstationfan66

47 The Sisters Eight by Lauren Baratz-Logsted

My daughter hated reading until we found this series of books. It has fantasy, action and it involves octuplets with special powers. What more does a young girl want to rad. Excellent reads I even foundmyself reading them.

48 Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy
49 Deltora Quest by Emily Rodda

It is the ultimate book for children. It handles themes and contemporary issues that are usually in grown up books, but in a more directly written way to make sure kids get them. Nothing inappropriate though. It has mysteries, red herrings, plots that throw you for a loop and lives off of great plot twists. Every character is memorable and each their own in personality and nature, whether human or non-human. The country of Deltora is big and diverse but still small enough to manage in your head when you read about the characters traveling across it. Also, it is atmospheric when and where it counts, it can be scary and skin-prickling, and sweet and humorous. You can also see that Emily Rodda knows how to plot a rigid but captivating plot, write simply but expand immensely well throughout the series, contain each book's story in a very satisfying way, and you can even sense that she has a background in adult crime and mystery fiction. Her style is kind of like Agatha Christie but for ...more

A perfect fantasy series for young children.

50 The Famous Five by Enid Blyton

This low? Famous Five was written by arguably the best children's author of all time!

Best author enid blyton nice series
