Top 10 Best Coldplay Albums

The Top Ten
1 A Rush of Blood to the Head

"Politik" grabs your attention at the onset with immense, booming piano and guitar. Then, "In My Place" responds with loud drumming and a happy guitar riff, framing a charming ballad of loneliness. "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" is an edgier piece, and Coldplay pulls it off wonderfully. "The Scientist" is a lovely piano ballad. The beautiful chords and Chris Martin's beautiful falsetto vocals make this song a classic. "Clocks", the 2004 Grammy winner of Record of the Year, builds around an infectious piano riff with lyrics of great urgency.

"Daylight" is a bluesy rocker that strengthens the album. "Green Eyes" and "Warning Sign", two of my favorites, are lovely ballads to love and loss that demonstrate the power of Chris Martin's vocals. Though "A Whisper" is somewhat forgettable, "A Rush of Blood to the Head" builds on the epic rock of the opening track with a catchy chorus and fantastic guitar work. The album closes on an absolute high note; "Amsterdam" shows Coldplay at their best. This canticle of time gives you chills with its haunting chorus, building up to its booming finish and the finish of the album.

This album is one of only two albums to have deeply moved me emotionally (the other being Dark Side of the Moon). This is Coldplay's most beautiful and memorable music.

2 X&Y

This album is by far the best Coldplay album to date. It captures raw emotion in each of the songs. Plus, it has Talk and Speed of Sound, two of the best songs they've ever written. Furthermore, X&Y, White Shadows, and Low have a beautiful ethereal tone to them. To date, the group has not captured that feeling nearly as well in any song. Fix You and A Message truly show the meaning of a powerful melody. All in all, it is an album that will go down in history as a beautiful piece of work.

I am a huge Pink Floyd fan, a massive Beatles and Paul McCartney fan. I love longtime artists like U2, Billy Joel, and Elton John, and since the early 2000s - Coldplay. I have soaked in all their albums but have never listened to a single album from any artist more than X & Y. It's a sonic masterpiece, a powerful concept album without even trying to be one. Every song is great. To this day, I still revisit X & Y to listen to in one sitting. Pure joy to the ears and yearning for the soul in one album.

3 Viva La Vida

The sound of this album is breathtaking. My favorites are Lost!, Lovers In Japan, Violet Hill, and Strawberry Swing. This is the record that got me into Coldplay. It is a great one. I am considering this to be my favorite album of all time. The atmosphere, the themes, the melodies, the cover art, the feeling the music gives you... When you're done listening to Death and All His Friends at the end of the album, you just think,

"That was heaven on Earth."

When we judge albums, we should remember to look not just at how good each song is individually, but look at the album as a whole and see how the songs fit together. The dual tracks on this album (like Lovers In Japan/Reign of Love) are brilliant, as well as the ordering of contrasting songs like Violet Hill and then Strawberry Swing. This should be enough to earn the top spot for Viva la Vida.

4 Parachutes

X & Y and Viva la Vida rated higher than this masterpiece? What's wrong with you all? Sorry, this is their real quality album. Yellow, Sparks, and Trouble can end all those albums (and maybe all of their albums).

The last great experiment is Ghost Stories. Viva la Vida sucks, X & Y is average, Mylo Xyloto is good, A Rush of Blood to the Head is the second masterpiece. And sorry, not sorry, their last album is trash.

Best Coldplay album. The rest of their works are a million miles away from this one. X & Y in first position is a joke. Parachutes - A Rush of Blood to the Head, and it's done. (The song Magic from the album Ghost Stories is at that Parachutes level but it's an exception in their recent work).

5 Mylo Xyloto

Coldplay has an incredible amount of great songs throughout their entire discography, but some of their album fillers can be a little on the edgy side (which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It just turns some people away). The great thing about this album is that it is pleasant to listen to all the way through, and there isn't one song that I feel a desire to skip over. Frankly, it's underrated, probably due to the EDM influences, which fans had a hard time getting used to at first. In my opinion, this album is the greatest example of EDM/Rock fusion in the history of rock. The songs create very beautiful musical atmospheres that fill your head with "musical colours" of a kind. Anyone who has listened to it knows exactly what I'm talking about. Incredible album!

6 Ghost Stories

It's a really tough question to answer. In the end, I can't pick which one's the best as every album's theme and atmosphere varies greatly.

Really, in my opinion, all of their albums are fantastic in their own ways.

I picked this because it deserves more attention than the others. Though it's really a quiet and intimate album, not to mention it sounds really different. That's enough to divide their fans and draw endless mean criticism.

If you gave me only a week or two to rate it, I wouldn't hesitate to give it a 2 out of 5. I disliked it, it sounded really different and even silly to me. But later, I found out that this is the type of album that gets better the more you listen to it (duh, that applies to every album, but this one just needs more time than average albums). But it's truly a carefully mastered album.

Fast forward 2 months or so, and this changes to be my favorite album of the year 2014. As the music grows into me, I began to appreciate more about the music style and details brought into this album.

Really, the album overall makes you feel relaxed, dreamy, and unusually high (not 420 high) of the strong intimate emotions emitted by the songs.

Magic, True Love, Ink, and O stand out due to their unique style. Midnight makes you wonder what type of acid they took whilst writing the song, but it's pretty good nonetheless. A Sky Full of Stars is an EDM masterpiece. Avicii and Coldplay collaboration, my favorite DJ and band combined, what a wonderful world we live in. Ghost Story may be the only song those 'I miss the old Coldplay' dudes should hear, it's my 2nd favorite aside from Ink, simply beautiful.

Coldplay always evolve, and I appreciate that. I'm sure it'd get boring if they made 3 more AROBTTH/X&Y type of albums. And they sure are having an adventure of a lifetime creating and evolving their music.

7 A Head Full of Dreams

First of all, not an album to please Coldplay haters. A bit like Ghost Stories, we may have mixed feelings about this fresh new release. On one side, we have brilliant songs like Birds or Amazing Day, and on the other, pop songs like Hymn For The Weekend or the ill-fated X Marks The Spot.

It is possible to appreciate those songs, though. They are certainly catchy but do not sound like good old Coldplay.

What's interesting about AHFOD is that we can still see some traces of previous albums in a few songs. Birds sounds like the cousin of Hurts Like Heaven from MX, and A Head Full Of Dreams has those guitar riffs that remind me of X&Y, which is cool!

Anyways, not their best album, and I hope this is not their last like they said. Good songs: Birds, Everglow, Amazing Day, A Head Full Of Dreams.

8 Prospekt's March

Amazing that a B sides compilation would contain such amazing music. How could you not love the happy-to-be-alive atmosphere of "Life in Technicolor ii", the sentimentality of "Postcards From Far Away", the gorgeous celestial atmosphere of "Glass of Water", or the foggy fun-ness and breathtaking chorus of "Rainy Day"? The title song was not what I thought it would be, but it turned out to be something quite better, and it still to this day brings on a solemn and reflective mood in me. The final song "Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground" is the perfect way to close the legacy of Viva La Vida by focusing on the theme of death, and featuring a unique horn section towards the end. Overall, this is an amazing and highly underrated work by Coldplay that should not be overlooked.

9 Everyday Life

Outstanding album with vibes from all over the world. Has a couple of explicit songs, but that makes it even better!

I listened to it today. Some explicit songs (which was unexpected) but overall a great album.

Everyday Life should have deserved a better place.

10 The Blue Room EP

I love the old version of Don't Panic! Bigger Stronger and See You Soon are very good too.

The Contenders
11 Live 2003
12 Music of the Spheres

Amazing album. Coloratura is easily the best song in a long time. Also has some good songs like Humankind and People of the Pride.

13 LeftRightLeftRightLeft
14 Kaleidoscope EP

Brand new, but these songs are truly magical. Miracles (Someone Special) is a great song, and All I Can Think About Is You is such a masterpiece.

This is a really good EP, almost like an extension to A Head Full of Dreams.

15 Safety EP
16 Mince Spies EP
17 Ghost Stories Live 2014

Ghost Stories Live 2014 is the fourth live album by British alternative rock band Coldplay. The album, a live recorded version of the band's sixth studio album Ghost Stories, was released by Parlophone in the United Kingdom on 24 November 2014.

This album is an emotional masterpiece. It's a mixture of love and space in every context.
