Top 10 Best Epic Movies of All Time

An EPIC is a genre of film that emphasizes human drama on a grand scale. Epics are on a much larger scale throughout their entire production including numerous extras. The films are usually the most expensive films of the year due to an all star cast, a grand, sweeping musical score, and the thousands of costumes, sets, and crew members. This list is of the films with very little or no computer generated special effects, making them "true" epics.
The Top Ten
1 Lawrence of Arabia

Protect from the Sun and vast spaces in Arab regions. The wind and humidity are some of the features of the desert atmosphere. Sand, dunes and even cactus are also present. It is there and some know not why or how. A mystery that might boggle the imagination for good or not. In this opinion these make one epic of a film.

How much more epic can you get than hundreds and hundreds of men riding through the Arabian Desert on camels, a full scale train wreck, and sweeping shots of Peter O'Toole with the entire desert behind him?

2 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

So epic it makes Ben Hur look like Bridesmaids.

Best movie ever made.

Best film ever! Duh

3 2001: A Space Odyssey

Hell yeah! All the way! This is one of my favorite films ever. Long live the oldies (but goodies)!

21 Avatar
22 The Ten Commandments

The length. The numerous scenes. The ridiculous number of actors and animals. The vivid color. Brynner vs Heston. Anne Baxter and Yyvonne De Carlo in their primes. And it's been shown every Easter weekend for who knows how long.

23 Gladiator
24 Giant (1956)
25 The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

Epic retelling of the Nutcracker story featuring tin soldiers, mice, harlequin clowns and lavish shots of Victorian London.
