This list was created with the intention of sharing some true masterpieces of progressive music, particularly those of lesser known bands who IMO deserve more attention.

The Top Ten

1 Second Life Syndrome - Riverside

This is a really unique and emotional piece from a seruiously underrated Polish act - petrucci75hammet

Sm*sh its a amazing boy band of Indonesia

2 Arriving Somewhere But Not Here - Porcupine Tree

A perfect example of the unique melancholy yet beautiful music Porcupine Tree are capable of producing. Steven Wilson is a musical genius! - petrucci75hammet

3 Echoes - Pink Floyd
4 Xanadu - Rush

There has to be a Rush song on here - after all, these guys invented progressive rock/metal! - petrucci75hammet

Sorry, but they didn't invent progressive rock. If you're trying to give them credit for "inventing" progressive metal rock, that's possibly a legitimate claim. - Billyv

5 A Change of Seasons - Dream Theater

A Change of Seasons is Fantastic. When people ask me what my single favorite song is, I always answer A Change of Seasons without hesitation. It is purely awesome from start to finish, and has a little something for every fan. Metal, jamming, aggressive vocals, melodies, and it's fair share of bizarre time signatures. A very emotional song that tells an interesting story, which the instrumentation helps to build the theme. And the ending is just phenomenal. - Operation_Fortitude

From what I have heard from all these songs, A Change of Seasons and Lateralus are the only two that belong on this list.

6 Roads to Madness - Queensryche

A classic epic from Queensryche, one of the most influential prog metal bands ever - petrucci75hammet

26 All of the Above - Transatlantic
27 The Ninth Wave - Blind Guardian

This metal epic just came out (Jan 2015) and really impressed me - a powerful combination of symphonic and progressive elements.
And yes, this band deserves more attention - their musicianship and consistency are exemplary. They will never become very popular because their stuff is too epic, complex and somewhat odd for the mainstream.
The biggest master in this band is Hansi Kürsch - nobody's perfect but his voice comes close to my idea of perfect metal vocals (studio and live). Besides, his tonal versatility is unmatched and you never know which one of his several voices he's gonna use next. This particular song doesn't show it very much but he's a tonal chameleon and allegedly - a vocal god, and... (hehe) - the ruler of Germany. - Metal_Treasure

28 The Odyssey - Symphony X
29 Age of Shadows - Ayreon

Awesome song.
Vocals: Daniel Gildenlöw, Floor Jansen, Hansi Kürsch, Anneke van Giersbergen, Jørn Lande, Jonas Renkse, Steve Lee, Tom Englund. - Metal_Treasure

This is a unique song and a masterpiece (2008). Give a listen, you won't be sorry.

33 Open Car - Porcupine Tree

People are too deaf in choosing their best and epic progressive song. The intro and the vocals in this song will drive you insane. The transition is very powerful. The instruments are alive and superb. You would not listen for more than any song because this song is too perfect. I can listen to this the whole day over and over again without stopping. - joshsanz
