These days, it's important to have insurance. We all hope our luck holds out and we don't have any major health scares, accidents, or theft or damage of our property, but bad things can and do happen. A quality insurance provider helps to weather the storm and get you back on your feet as soon as possible.
The Top Ten
1 GIO

I have been with GIO for years now, they always deliver excellence when it comes to car/home and contents cover for our family. Had an at fault claim a few years back and the service that was given was fantastic. Easy to deal with, friendly customer support and claims are no hassle whatsoever.

Now, this is a very popular company, and it does have great rates, so it makes the top ten list.

2 Allianz

I thoroughly enjoyed the excellent service provided by Allianz. They surpassed my expectations when I applied for my car insurance. Their dedication to the customer, seamless transaction process, and competitive pricing convinced me to switch from GIO. I can't agree with the author's experience where his house was robbed, and he was asked to "fix" it himself before going to GIO - that doesn't make sense. I took considerable time to make my decision, and I encourage you to do the same.

Been with them for years, claimed twice, easy no fuss. Had Allianz on my home insurance, trouble, trouble, trouble! Never got back to me with their claim decision. I called again and again, even lodged a complaint. Then they got back to me pretty quick, and that was six weeks later, told me my claim was declined! I had a leaking roof in the middle of winter. They could have told me earlier so that I would get it fixed five weeks earlier! Allianz is bad, don't get anywhere near!

Fantastic company and they do have my back! I've been with them for a long time, and they do protect their customers even when it comes to claims! Great customer service!

4 AAMI

Recently had an accident. I was at fault. Reading all these comments and reviews, I believed that they are going to repair my car (serious accident with airbags popped up). I read that they use cheap second-hand parts, etc... But not only it was not true, they wrote off my car, and they were super quick. From the date of the accident till I saw the money in my account, it took exactly 10 days.

I'm really happy with the way they handled the situation.

My Hyundai i45 was insured with them for the last 3 years, the premium was $900, and a lot cheaper than other competitive. And yet, the service was unexceptional.

Very happy.

5 NRMA

Customer for 45 years, yes! Had a few hiccups, some because I did not read the policy. Others, all companies increase policies. Received half the value of the camera, damaged away from home, that was not covered under my policy. In the past 4 houses, 6 cars, 2 boats. It's NRMA for me, for now.

Their service and quality are unmatched. Not the cheapest, but you know you're covered. I have claimed three times in the past ten years, and each time, I have had a great experience.

I agree, they may not be the cheapest, but they have been the best. Excellent customer service. They make it very easy to claim, and they care about their clients.

6 Truckers Insurance HQ

Had a great experience with these guys. Adam is an awesome broker - very down to earth and really knows his stuff. He not only saved me an extra $80 from what I was going to pay, but he also got me inclusions I didn't even consider. Very happy customer... which is rare cause insurance sucks!

Truckers Insurance HQ is a leading general insurance broker agency in Australia and an expert in insurance for the transport industry. They provide you with risk-effective and cost-effective insurance service, according to your needs.

7 Budget Direct

The cheapest and best motor vehicle insurer, in my opinion.

8 Coles Insurance
9 Youi

My wife smashed our Navara total right off. They were excellent. Gave us a very fair price, quick payment, no issues. Even the tow truck driver said, 'Oh, you have Youi, you will be fine.' I kind of figured he would know, and he was right.

Very easy to deal with and quick professional service.

10 Suncorp

Have had to make 2 car insurance claims in the last 3 months through no fault of my own. Claimed over the phone, fixed my car both times straight away with no hassles whatsoever, and provided 2 weeks car hire in each case. Very happy with their service.

Love Suncorp! Easiest claim ever. 24 hours and money was in my account.

Very helpful and seamless process, love Suncorp... It's just easy.

The Contenders
11 RACQ Insurance

I have made 1 not @ fault claim with RACQ. They were quick to respond and get the car into the repairer. The only problem was the repairman took nearly 7 weeks to fix our car, and our car hire was only covered for 14 days. The rest came out of our pocket for the rental.

Besides that... So far, so good!

12 NIB
13 AMP

I know that they are not heard of by many of you, but it's got some pretty good rates.

14 Medibank
15 RAA

I liked how they dissed AAMI! They said, "There's no Ship Creek in South Australia," meaning "don't use AAMI because it's not South Australian!" Makes me laugh every time!

16 Bingle
17 Q Report Jewellery Insurance
18 Chubb
19 RACV
20 Achmea
21 AllTradesCover
22 RAC

Very transparent company. If you read your annual renewal, then you know exactly what you're in for, rather than all the hidden clauses with other for-profit companies.

23 TradeCover

There are many companies emerging in Australia in the insurance field, and one of the unique ones is TradeCover. They provide valuable services to Aussies to make them financially strong.
