Sam

If you think about it, Sam was the reason that the Ring was destroyed. Yes, Frodo was the one who carried it, and it was Gollum that (unintentionally) caused the Ring to be destroyed, but it was Sam that supported and protected Frodo. Without Sam, Frodo would have likely been killed by Gollum. Sam was so incredibly loyal and supportive of Frodo, and Frodo very likely wouldn't have made it without that support. But more importantly, Sam was never corrupted by the Ring. Think about that for a second. Throughout the entire book, Sam was the character that was in contact with the Ring for the longest period of time without being corrupted. Gandalf refused the Ring because he feared being corrupted, and many other characters were corrupted just by seeing or hearing about it. Yet Sam spent 13 months in direct proximity with the Ring, and was not corrupted at all. I think that speaks volumes about Sam, and about the personality that Sam represents. All Sam wanted was to tend to a healthy ...more

Whenever I ask my friends who their favourite Lord of the Rings character is, they always say Frodo. I believe the best character is Sam, because Sam is very kind and he encourages Frodo to keep going on the mission. While Frodo is way too weak to walk up a mountain, Sam always has the strength to carry Frodo up a mountain while wounded, and is always willing to protect Frodo and be by his side. Frodo would have never survived or completed anything without Sam. At the end, after Sam and Frodo get attacked by Golem and Sam ends up carrying Frodo, Sam just wants Frodo to throw the powerful ring into the magma to end the danger and despair once and for all. But stupid Frodo is too greedy to let go of the ring, and even after Golem and the ring fall into the volcano and Frodo and Sam are laying there as the volcano erupts, Sam way always by his side.

While all the characters have their merits, could any of them claim to choose friendship over the ring of power? Gandalf and Galadriel wouldn't even touch it, didn't need to in order to be affected by it; but Sam not only holds it, but he gives it back (even if he did hesitate a moment).

Not only that, but without him all the torment and death Middle Earth has suffered would have been pointless. Frodo would have kept it and the other characters would have been forced to hunt down their friend. The psychological damage that would have given each of them would have been tremendous.

Sam provided moral and physical support, but he created a standard. "Everybody needs a Sam" but not everybody needs a Legolas, Aragorn, or Gandalf.

Sam is 100% the best character, he is the main reason frodo destroyed the ring but he didn't take any of the credit for it. He did it because he was helping a friend. That what I think Lord of the Rings is about not the fighting or evil but friendship. It shows how far people will go to protect their friends. The only thing I don't like about Lord of The Rings is that in the end everybody loves Frodo but the forget about sam.

While Sam is by far my favorite character throughout the entire Middle-earth universe, I really couldn't care less who is in the top three so long as Legolas is smacked down. Seriously? We're going to let our naughty bits guide our decisions on superior Middle-earth inhabitants?

In an ideal world I can see Sam, Gandalf, and Aragorn in the top three. Simply put, the characterization of Sam conveys complexity on and off the big screen. He comes across as the most accessible figure. Isn't there a little bit of Sam in all of us?

Also, what--where is Tom Bombadil or Bill the Pony?

First, he kept his promise to be with Frodo all the time. Though he knew danger or maybe even death was ahead, he still refused to leave Frodo alone. Second, Frodo treated him poorly due to the affection of the ring, but he never gives up on Frodo. Even after Frodo chased him away, he still came back for him because he knew Frodo would be in great danger and he might need his help. Sam is quite humble as well. HE IS THE BEST!

Sam is my favorite character. He doesn't shoot arrows or have a sword that he uses to fight. When Mary and Pippin get daggers, he gets a rope. He is so loyal to Frodo and wouldn't let him get hurt ever. He almost drowns for Frodo. He spies on a council meeting to make sure Frodo is alright. His best friend is a hero, but he isn't jealous about it. He sticks with Frodo for so long and the ring doesn't have an effect on him because he is so loyal and kind.

Frodo: I can't do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we R.It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... And it's worth fighting for.

Sam is just so amazing. Sam is the small achiever. Sam hasn't got a special ability but he is always saving Frodo and guiding him. Starts of like a normal hobbit but finished like a true warrior. Proved by his speech in the Two Towers. Also he is an awesome character.

He isn't strong like Legolas, Aragorn, or Gandalf, but he doesn't give up ever. He carries Frodo up Mount Doom for crying out loud! He's a true hero because he isn't invincible, but will still walk across all of Middle Earth just to keep his friend and employer, Frodo, alive!

Sam is the real hero of the trilogy! Even though he was given the chance to abandon frodo many times during of the trilogy he chose not to even thought it was not his choice to embark on this journey in the first place! Sam was frodo's shoulder to lean on through the Bad times. Even tolkein thought same was the main hero. Sorry but frodo couldn't have done it without Sam!

He's so awkward and funny. Yet he's noble and courageous. He's one of the most loyal characters I've seen yet. And he has the best speeches... the ones that get me all choked up.

He is the most selfless creature and the one who totally resisted the power of the ring. A true friend and a true man ahem.. Hobbit.

I think that same is the best character in the books and movie. Frodo nearly gives up or is afraid several times, but Sam never even flinches. He even almost drowns himself just to stay by Frodo's side. He is selfless and good

Sam is the best, he is so loyal to Frodo and will do whatever he can to help, " I can't carry it for you Mr. Frodo, BUT I CAN CARRY YOU! " you can't beat that, that is my favorite moment in all of literature.

Sam is the most brave, strong, and loyal character of all! Whenever Frodo was sleeping, Sam was always keeping an eye on him. In the book, Sam literally jumped on Shelob and raged to fight her off! After that some orcs past by and said "It must be a high elf from ancient times that has fought the spider off! " Sam has always been there for Frodo and has never given up.

Where to start with Sam? He likes gardening, he like potatoes (clearly the best food out there), he is extremely loyal, he's adorable, and he is the best friend anyone could ever have. Sam is loyal to Frodo, to the point of almost drowning for his friend, carrying him while in a state of exhaustion, and saving him from terrifying, giant spiders. I mean, Sam calls Frodo 'Mr. Frodo,' for Pete's sake! Sam has the best lines ("Please don't let him turn me into anything unnatural! ") and Sam knows what's best for everyone, even if they don't agree. Sam cares deeply for his father, as seen when Galadriel shows him her mirror. Sam is the kind of person we should all want to be. He loves his family and friends, he's not aftaid to stick up for them, and he is extremely loyal and kindhearted.

And for the record, Sam is WAY better than Ron.

He is incredibly loyal to Frodo and beats a giant spider with a short sword... Let's see Legolas beat that. He resists the Ring- he even wore it and gave it back! Very few can claim such fortitude.

Sam is the reason why Frodo could even destroy the ring. At the end of the books, Frodo offers to give Sam everything he owns but Sam refuses; you can't find such a humble person in real life.

Why is Legolas on top? He can't even compare to Gandalf! Or you guys just vote because he's handsome? Sam is like the best of all and then Gandalf, Legolas isn't even in my top 5!

Samwise the Brave is the chief hero. Tolkien said so. He is amazing and Frodo wouldn't have go far with Sam! Sam is loyal, brave, sweet, hopeful, amazing, awesome, and just all around literally the best character ever. He saved Frodo like a million times and never once gave up. He coped with Frodo and helped him. He was adorable and sweet. He carriedtr Ring for 2 days and willfully and and easily gave it back to Frodo. I mean really, HE IS THE BEST!

Simple. Whilst Frodo carried the greatest burden it was Sam that got him to Mt Doom. Take Sam from the story and Frodo fails. He epitomises everything it means to be a man. He is the representation of what the fellowship was fighting for - everything good, just and beautiful in the world!

Poor Samwise. He travels across Middle Earth and gets what? "Go home Sam! " There are so many others things I could praise Sam for, but mostly it would have to be his undying loyalty to Frodo. He is the kindest character in the Lord of the Rings trilogy!

SAM IS THE REAL HERO! SRSLY HE ALWAYS STOOD UP AND FOUGHT FOR FRODO, EVEN WHEN HE WAS MEAN TO HIM!

Sam Is by far the best character not only in that the odds of the whole mission were overwhelming but in that if anything seemed unfixable, Sam would fix it also the story ends with him so he is all in all the most relevant to life character!
