121 Ian Gilan
122 John Mellencamp
123 Ben Folds
124 Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) Childish Gambino (Donald Glover)

Probably one of the best rappers interms of flow and lyrics, comical and metaphorical, he plays on words like a gangster shakespeare.

125 Citizen Cope

However unheard of, one listen to a Citizen Cope record, and you will be hooked. In some songs, this man tells stories not at all relevant to his own life in such detail that you would believe you are living them yourself, and in others, write from the deepest corners of his heart. Top 5 all time.

1 song I ever heard actually, its kind of good actually. "let the drama kid dead"

126 Layne Staley Layne Staley Layne Thomas Staley was an American musician who served as the lead singer and co-songwriter of the rock band Alice in Chains, which he founded with guitarist Jerry Cantrell in Seattle, Washington in 1987. Alice in Chains rose to international fame as part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s. ...read more.

Layne Staley should be number 1, have you listened to Alice in Chains?

127 MF Doom MF Doom Daniel Dumile, also known as MF DOOM, is a British-born hip hop recording artist who spent most of his life in the United States.

DOOM is below JB? This list is a complete joke. DOOM should be in top 5 lyricists of all time. His wordplay and rhyme schemes are off the charts.

128 Mikael Akerfeldt Mikael Akerfeldt Lars Mikael Åkerfeldt is a Swedish musician, prominently known as the lead vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter of progressive death metal band Opeth, as well as being the former vocalist of death metal supergroup Bloodbath.
129 Bernie Taupin

As a lyricist only... You'd think he'd be higher up. I'd put him in the top 25. Daniel, Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer, Yellow Brick Road, All the Young Girls Love Alice, Harmony, Blues for Bobby and Me. I've Seen That Movie Too, Your Song, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Take Me To the Pilot, Bennie and the Jets
... Man... The list goes on and on.

Bernie Taupin is vastly underrated in this pole! No, I don't think he is the best by a long shot, but he certainly should rank in the top 25. Just my opinion.

Oh my goodness! 110! No, No, NO - more like #10

130 Adam Gontier Adam Gontier Adam Wade Gontier is a Canadian musician and songwriter. He is the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and main songwriter for Saint Asonia, but is best known as the former lead singer, rhythm guitarist and main songwriter of the Canadian rock band Three Days Grace.
131 Nick Drake Nick Drake Nicholas Rodney "Nick" Drake (19 June 1948 – 25 November 1974) was an English singer-songwriter and musician, known for his acoustic guitar-based songs. A singular talent who passed almost unnoticed during his brief lifetime, his work has posthumously achieved wider notice and recognition.

Nick Drake speaks to the soul. You yearn to find the meaning behind his songs. He died young with so much sadness in his heart but never lost the ability to capture the beauty in the world in his lyrics.

132 Conor Oberst

"We are nowhere and it's now' are probably my favourite lyrics of all songs ever.

133 Marilyn Manson Marilyn Manson Brian Hugh Warner, better known by his stage name Marilyn Manson, is an American musician, songwriter, actor, painter, multimedia artist, author, and former music journalist. V 1 Comment
134 Colin Meloy

Completely under-appreciated; the Decemberists' songs have some of the greatest lyrics ever written. If you need evidence, listen to "Sleepless" or "On the Bus Mall", some of their best songs lyric-wise. Colin Meloy's lyrics are some of the best, and they deserve more recognition then they get.

135 Phil Ochs

Whether speaking earnestly, ironically, on topical issues or ethereal human truths, Ochs's writing was captivating and masterful. Ochs was nearly Dylan's peer as a songwriter, and he was probably the best political songwriter of all time.

136 Steve Harley Steve Harley V 1 Comment
137 Joe Strummer Joe Strummer John Graham Mellor, known by his stage name Joe Strummer, was a British musician, singer, actor and songwriter who was the co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist of the Clash.
138 Amy Winehouse Amy Winehouse Amy Jade Winehouse was an English singer and songwriter known for her deep expressive contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul, rhythm and blues, and jazz. V 1 Comment
139 Drake Drake Aubrey Drake Graham, known professionally as Drake, is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor, born and raised in Toronto, Ontario.

A good lyricist identifies with the masses and it shows itself in various ways. Now there's a lot of packed stadiums of fabricated bands and that's one thing. But Drake writes everything himself and outsells, out performs, has numerous billboard record achievements, represents the current mass mentality. I'm a 39 year old white male and I find him arrogant yes, but inspiring and he should be represented on this chart.

140 Billy Bragg

Outstanding. It is sad that he doesn't already feature on this list. I hope his new Selected Lyrics, just out from Faber and Faber, will help to get Bragg some of the recognition that he deserves.

Beautiful lyrics and powerful, should be high on the list.
