141 Marilyn Manson Marilyn Manson Brian Hugh Warner, better known by his stage name Marilyn Manson, is an American musician, songwriter, actor, painter, multimedia artist, author, and former music journalist.

He should be right next to Bob Dylan... The fact he is nowhere around him is a pity & proves how his genius is underrated, misunderstood & easily overlooked...

"I am a diamond that is tired
of all the faces I've acquired
we must secure the shadow ere
the substance fades" MM

142 Colin Meloy

Completely under-appreciated; the Decemberists' songs have some of the greatest lyrics ever written. If you need evidence, listen to "Sleepless" or "On the Bus Mall", some of their best songs lyric-wise. Colin Meloy's lyrics are some of the best, and they deserve more recognition then they get.

143 Phil Ochs

Whether speaking earnestly, ironically, on topical issues or ethereal human truths, Ochs's writing was captivating and masterful. Ochs was nearly Dylan's peer as a songwriter, and he was probably the best political songwriter of all time.

145 Joe Strummer Joe Strummer John Graham Mellor, known by his stage name Joe Strummer, was a British musician, singer, actor and songwriter who was the co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist of the Clash.
146 Amy Winehouse Amy Winehouse Amy Jade Winehouse was an English singer and songwriter known for her deep expressive contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul, rhythm and blues, and jazz. She is also a well-known member of the 27 Club, as she overdosed on alcohol at age 27.

Say what you will about her personal life, she is one of the most passionate and gripping lyricists of all time. The best lyrics are formed by those that can utilize song as an outlet for pain and hardship. Cobain, Winehouse are among the best at this. I have no idea why I had to put this up myself.

For you I was a flame
Love is a losing game
Five story fire as you came
Love is a losing game

One I wish I never played
Oh what a mess we made
And now the final frame
Love is a losing game

Played out by the band
Love is a losing hand
More than I could stand
Love is a losing hand

Self professed... profound
Till the chips were down
...know you're a gambling man
Love is a losing hand

Though I battle blind
Love is a fate resigned
Memories mar my mind
Love is a fate resigned

Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame
Love is a losing game

147 Drake Drake Aubrey Drake Graham, known professionally as Drake, is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor, born and raised in Toronto, Ontario.

A good lyricist identifies with the masses and it shows itself in various ways. Now there's a lot of packed stadiums of fabricated bands and that's one thing. But Drake writes everything himself and outsells, out performs, has numerous billboard record achievements, represents the current mass mentality. I'm a 39 year old white male and I find him arrogant yes, but inspiring and he should be represented on this chart.

148 Billy Bragg

Outstanding. It is sad that he doesn't already feature on this list. I hope his new Selected Lyrics, just out from Faber and Faber, will help to get Bragg some of the recognition that he deserves.

Beautiful lyrics and powerful, should be high on the list.

Hey, you call me up again just to break me like a promise.
So casually cruel in the name of being honest.
I'm a crumpled up piece of paper lying here
'Cause I remember it all, all, all... too well.

Time won't fly, it's like I'm paralyzed by it
I'd like to be my old self again, but I'm still trying to find it
After plaid shirt days and nights when you made me your own
Now you mail back my things and I walk home alone

Why is she even on this list.

She needs to be top ten, for sure

She is best...her songs are so catchy, she pour her feeling in her songs
