3 Johnny Depp
John Christopher "Johnny" Depp II is an American actor, producer, and musician. He has won the Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor.
His role in a movie is often rather big. His character is often on the "loopy side" and his character being in a darker state of mind, etc.
I love Johnny Depp
4 Sylvester Stallone
My criteria for being an elite actor is versatility, transformation, being compelling and enveloping a character from the "gut." Stallone fails to meet any of these criteria. None of his performances have ever impressed me. - venusman
6 Al Pacino
Pacino is an incredibly gifted actor who is versatile and compelling. Two of my favorite performances by Pacino are "Serpico" and "You Don't Know Jack." Great acting is comprised of versatility, transformation, being compelling and enveloping a character from the "gut." Pacino, Brando, Dustin Hoffman, Penn and Kingsley are some of my favorite male actors. Pacino would certainly make my top 5 list. - venusman
7 Denzel Washington
Denzel Hayes Washington, Jr. is an American actor and filmmaker. He has received three Golden Globe awards, a Tony Award, and two Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor for the historical war drama film Glory and Best Actor for his role as a corrupt cop in the crime thriller Training Day.
I consider Washington to be just an average actor. He was uninspiring and flat in his "Philadelphia" role. To me he is a "performer" and not a compelling actor. Top "performers",as opposed to gifted actors, in my opinion, are Cruise, Hanks, Washington and b/c of his over-acting Nicholson. Actors who are compelling and act from the "gut" are Brando, Pacino, Kingsley, Rush and the two Hoffmans - Dustin and Phillip - Seymour. - venusman
8 Marlon Brando
Marlon Brando, Jr. was an American actor, film director, and activist. He is credited with bringing a gripping realism to film acting, and is often cited as one of the greatest and most influential actors of all time.
Brando is a once in a generation actor. He meets my criteria for being an elite, gifted actor. He is versatile, transformative, compelling and envelopes a character from the "gut." Two of my favorite performances by Brando are "On the Waterfront" and "Last Tango in Paris." Many viewers are distracted, focusing on Tango's sensuality. To me, the film was more about coping with his grief, his anomie and desperately filling an emotional void. - venusman
