Best Male Performances in a Movie

The Top Ten
1 Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump)
2 Tom Hanks (Philadelphia)
3 Tom Hanks (Saving Private Ryan)
4 Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight)

The best male performance I have ever seen! We lost an awesome actor so early. A true talent. I watch The Dark Knight for only one reason: for Heath Ledger! That performance surpassed Nicholson as the best Joker. The best Joker is Ledger, and he will always be! We miss you so much!... by a Greek fan... a fan of true talents...

He's scary... but in a good way. That just proves that he did great in this awesome movie! He did really, really well!

The Joker, hello! Why so serious? Let's put a smile on that face and vote Heath for the top male performance!

5 Al Pacino (The Godfather)

The best performance I've ever seen on celluloid. "Tell me anything but don't tell me you are innocent.. because that insults my intelligence"... Love it! The greatest of all time, Al Pacino. I am mad about him.

Any day that Robert Pattinson is voted higher than Al Pacino is considered an apocalyptic event in terms of film fans. In fact, Pattinson shouldn't be on this list at all.

He should be number 1 for this role. I mean, he was good, and no one could have really done it without Al Pacino.

6 Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl)

Without him, there are no pirates. Nobody can beat him in this role. Though he missed the Oscars, he did justice to his part.

7 Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl)
8 Tom Hanks (The Green Mile)
9 Jack Nicholson (One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest)

Jack stars as a rebellious, yet sane, Randle McMurphy who is wrongly sentenced to a mental hospital. He won a well-deserved Academy Award for this portrayal, as did the villainous head nurse of the ward, Nurse Ratched, who was played by Louise Fletcher.

10 James Stewart (It's a Wonderful Life)

He should be in first place! However, he is the best. James Stewart is such a man who acted because he wanted to, and played George Bailey so amorously that I fell in love with the pie. Smooches.

He did a very amazing job in this movie.

The Contenders
11 Humphrey Bogart (Casablanca)
12 Marlon Brando (On the Waterfront)

Should be number 1. How do Depp and Bloom beat Brando? This is the best performance of all time.

13 Leonardo DiCaprio (The Departed)
14 Russell Crowe (Gladiator)
15 Jack Nicholson (The Shining)

In this chilling tale of a family's stay at an equally terrifying hotel, Jack Nicholson plays Jack Torrance, the cold patriarch who decides to take care of the hotel for the winter. The cherry on the cake for this wonderful horror movie is Jack's stunning performance, amazingly capturing Mr. Torrance's slow descent into homicidal madness.

A man stuns the audience, and he doesn't get a single Oscar nomination for it. If critics are like these, then there shouldn't be any critics. Great performance!

16 Marlon Brando (The Godfather)
17 Charlie Sheen (Platoon)
18 Samuel L. Jackson (Django Unchained)
19 Jack Nicholson (Batman)
20 Val Kilmer (Tombstone)
21 Eli Wallach (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly)

Wallach is a powerhouse and leaves his co-stars in the dust.

22 Al Pacino (Scarface)

His acting in this movie was so different from anything else he's done, but he did it perfectly. Tony Montana is my favorite movie character of all time.

Best acting I've ever seen. Truly amazing acting.

23 Robert De Niro (Raging Bull)
24 Ralph Fiennes (Schindler's List)
25 Toshiro Mifune (Seven Samurai)
