Top 10 Greatest Metal Bassists

The Contenders: Page 3

41 Sao Paulo Jr. (Sepultura)
42 Michael Lepond (Symphony X)

Incredible fingerstyle skills! Hardly any other bassist plays with so much precision at such a high speed. If this was an accurate list, the top three would be Cliff Burton, John Myung and Michael Lepond!

Listen to his solos in Egypt and Seven and you will understand.

Technically speaking, he's incredible; listen to Sea of Lies or Domination, that's all that's needed

43 Greg Christian (Testament) Greg Christian (Testament)
44 Ian Hill

Can't believe he's on number 45! I know he plays mainly simple bass line, but check out the early stuff of Priest classic, like SIN AFTER SIN, STAINED CLASS or metal masterpiece UNLEASHED IN THE EAST, he plays basic stuff but adding some incredible melodic bass note to each songs. I think he deserve on top 10 in metal.

45 Marco Hietala Marco Hietala Marko Tapani "Marco" Hietala is a Finnish heavy metal vocalist, bass guitarist and songwriter (Nightwish, Tarot).

He should definitely be in the top 20! - CenturyChild

Very special with his 'simple' style.

Aslo a very good singer!

There are better bass players but Marco belongs certainly to the top 20

46 Troy Sanders (Mastodon) Troy Sanders (Mastodon) Troy Jayson Sanders is an American musician, singer, and songwriter best known as a member of the Atlanta, Georgia metal band Mastodon, in which he plays bass and shares lead vocal duties with guitarist Brent Hinds and drummer Brann Dailor.

Like all of the members from Mastodon not widely known, therefore never high in these kind of lists. All 4 members are exceptional on their respective instruments and based on skill Troy Sanders is on par with players like Steve Harris and Cliff Burton. Should be at least top 10

He's not the best, but some songs are amazing and he deserves the 10 or 11 position.

47 Masashi (Versailles)
48 Dan Briggs

Dan Briggs is a very talented bassist. I mean look at his work on colors, it's absolutely amazing.

Dan briggs is a brilliant bassist, don't believe me, listen to viridian by between the buried and me

This man and Ryan martinie are my two favourites and HAVE to be up there in top few. These men have the skills to pay them little gimmicks they keep sending in the mail called 'bills'

49 Arif Mirabdolbaghi (Protest the Hero)

A fantastic bassist with excellent technique and exceptionally fluid playing. He incorporates many different styles into his playing, and his tapping is incredible.

50 Frederic Leclercq

How about DragonForce's Frederic Leclercq? He plays brutal, fast, and many more.

52 Oliver Riedel (Rammstein)

Absolutely love Olllie!, his riffsa re simple yet unique. His passion for his band is incredible. Long Live Rammstein

53 Toshiya (Dir en Grey)

Out of every bands I have ever heard in my life, I could say that Toshiya's is the best one yet. I don't get it why he didn't make it to at least the top 20, but Toshiya is just... ugh. His bass never failed to make me drown

54 Reginald 'Fieldy' Arvizu

He brings his own style to slap bass he admits that yes he's not the most technical bass player but when you actually watch him play he brings a edge to KoRn that makes them different from most bands

55 Dominic Lapointe

I actually cannot understand why Forest Lapointe comes after something like fifty other bass players who, having of course been important for the genre, are not nearly close to his level. This man's technique is what every bass player should dream to reach, and it's truly sad to see how his skill is not recognized as much as it deserves.

56 Martin Mendez (Opeth)

The Best I ever saw live. AT least, He has to Stay in the top ten. Very funky play.

Why is Martin Mendez down here? This is just plain idiotic and disrespectful. The list says metal bassists. All I see is stupid rock band bassists of sell out bands. This guy should be much much higher up. Same goes for Dominic 'Forrest'.

The rhythm and groove he brings to Opeth is heavenly. One of the 'classic line up' from the period when they made albums like Still Life, Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Damnation etc. Even after Peter and Martin Lopez left and Mikael lost his knack for metal, he's still there, delivering the goods faithfully.

57 Paolo Gregoletto (Trivium)

Paolo is amazing! My favourite bassist! Listen to anthem we are the fire

58 Twiggy Ramirez (Marilyn Manson)

The genius behind Mansons sound, Twiggys bass is prominent in all of Mansons staples, The Reflecting God in particular is chilling.

59 Kay Brem (Eluveitie)
60 Peter Steele (Type O Negative) Peter Steele (Type O Negative) Petrus Thomas Ratajczyk, better known by his stage name Peter Steele, was the lead singer, bassist and composer for the gothic metal band Type O Negative.

He is cute and strong and his music is op... but I think the bass play was not that op as his music

What the hell? Pete should be in the top 10, at least!

Wow he is criminally low - Sincerity
