22 Amon Amarth Amon Amarth Amon Amarth is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Tumba, formed in 1992. The band takes its name from the Sindarin name of Mount Doom.

Amon amarth should be #1

#2 behind Machine Head

One of the more talented metal bands out there that aren't metalcore

Come one this makes a True Metalhead sad to see all this crappy Metalcore and Nu Metal bands up there.

23 Between the Buried and Me Between the Buried and Me Between the Buried and Me is an American progressive metal band from Raleigh, North Carolina. Formed in 2000, the band consists of Tommy Giles Rogers, Jr.

Between the Buried and Me are the greatest modern progressive death metal band, who also are the greatest progressive death metal band of all time already. They are the Metallica of progressive death.

24th? These guys are doing what a lot of metal isn't doing nowadays: being creative. Listen to Parallax II, Colors or Alaska to see what I mean!

They are MODERN metal
They have great drummer
Just listen them they'll impress you for sure
Really heavy

24 Korn Korn Korn is an American Nu-Metal band from Bakersfield, California, formed in 1993. The band's current lineup includes founding members Jonathan Davis, James "Munky" Shaffer, Brian "Head" Welch, and Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu, with the addition of Ray Luzier, who replaced the band's original member, David more.

Korn may have defined the genre of "Nu Metal" according to the "media," but in all actuality they are not so easily classified. I freely admit that a few of their albums have missed the mark. However, when they get it right, they are a force to be reckoned with. They are the only band, I can think of, that that has managed to try something different every time they've released new music. Not only do they try new things, but in doing so still manage to have a unique and recognizable sound. Of all the bands on this list, they should certainly be in the top three. Whether one wants to call them "Nu Metal," "Alterna-Metal" or something a bit harder to define, Korn has been rocking out for 23 years. They defined a genre and beyond. They're coming out with their 11th album in October, 2016.

Such an amazing band

Even if you don't like them you can't deny that they are influential and influenced amazing bands like system of a down and slipknot they have 11 albums and still have great diversity.

They hammered a school with a law suit when a fan got suspended for wearing a 'Korn' t-shirt...

25 Metallica Metallica Metallica is an American Thrash Metal band formed in 1981 . The original lineup was James Hetfield (Vocalist and Rhythm guitarist), Dave Mustaine (Lead Guitar), Lars Ulrich (Drums), Ron McGovney (Bassist). The group came into mainstream from their Self-Titled album and the hit single "Enter Sandman". more.

The reason why they are down here is because they are not classified as a "Modern" band. Their first album came out in 83. They are worthy of this list but don't necessarily belong on it.

Not really good for their modern stuff, but their old stuff (80s) is just amazing.

They are what is known as metal gods. They brought metal back to Earth, and without them, this argument would be invalid. And their new stuff has gone back to their original style, and nothing is going to stop them

1. They are not modern
2. Even if they were, all their material post...And Justice For All has been rather weak.
3. At their prime though, they smash every metal band ever aside from Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath - DavidBondra

26 Cattle Decapitation Cattle Decapitation Cattle Decapitation is an American Deathgrind band from San Diego, California formed in 1996. Cattle Decapitation's songs protest the mistreatment and consumption of animals, the abuse of the environment and touch subjects such as misanthropy and genocide of the human race. Much of their music is based more.
27 Five Finger Death Punch Five Finger Death Punch Five Finger Death Punch is an American heavy metal band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Formed in 2005, the band's name is derived from a fictional martial arts maneuver in the 2003 film Kill Bill.

Five Finger Death Punch is a killer metal band. If you have never heard of them you should really listen to some of my favorite songs "100 Ways to Hate", "Remember Everything", "No One Gets Left Behind".

Badass band and amazing work on their albums, war is the answer is possibly the greatest metal album released in the past 10 years, Not to mention they came over to play for us when I was deployed to Iraq, it was the greatest concert ever

I'm not going to spend much time on this because I don't want a fan war, but the only reason they fall into 8th is because they are a fairly new band, and because it's a little difficult to relate to them.

This is a band for people who want stereotypical, unoriginal, Nickelback-y metal. I hate this band and their music stinks.

28 Dragonforce Dragonforce DragonForce are a British power metal band based in London, England. Formed in 1999, the group are known for their long and fast guitar solos, fantasy-themed lyrics, and electronic sounds in their music to add to their retro video game-influenced sound.

DragonForce might me studio-cheats, or not, I dunno. But nonetheless, their last three albums have been their best yet, and I really dig what they're doing. They embrace modern technology and make extreme power metal, and that's what you get.

Helloween are better.

Dragon force OWNZ! Where is killswitch engage? THEY DESERVE TO BE IN THIS LIST!

- Through the fire and flames
- Fury of the storm
- Cry thunder
- Three hammers

The bands members all changed in the time between 2010 to 2014, with the exception of Ben Burnley (Vocals). The Ex-Members included Chad Szeliga (Drums), Aaron Fink (Guitar) and Mark Klepaspi (Bass). more.

Are you kidding me, bb is the best should be in the top tens. They have about 50 songs, each one is breath taking. Every song is amazing, not one song you won't like. Why are they 23?

Whats wrong! This is an amazing band deserves to be in top 10, the melody, with metal in the chorus and touching lyrics the best combination ever!

Breaking Benjamin has been shifting through this list. I feel like they should, at least, be in the top 15. They haven't made a single bad song (that I've heard) and are my second favorite band (not that my opinion matters, but I just thought I'd point that out).

They should be number1

31 Alter Bridge Alter Bridge Alter Bridge is an American rock band from Orlando, Florida, formed in 2004. The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Myles Kennedy, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips.

Alter Bridge is the most underrated band I know. It is my favorite band, and people need to give it a shot. Every band-member is a brilliant musician at their own field. I guess you either love or hate Kennedy's voice, but I think it is best in the business. Their new album is coming in a month, everybody needs to buy it, you won't regret it. ALTER BRIDGE

Hey, check out Mark Tremonti's solo album All I Was. It shows his guitar chops and his vocal and songwriting abilities! He makes Alter Bridge one of the best modern rock bands!

I LOVE Alter Bridge, but aren't they more Hard Rock? - cjWriter1997

Best band ever!

32 August Burns Red August Burns Red August Burns Red is an American metalcore band from Manheim, Pennsylvania. Formed in 2003, the group began their first performances while a majority of the members were attending their senior year of high school, and soon began playing shows around Lancaster, before being signed to CI Records. Afterwards, more.

29? Are you kidding me? All of the top 28 sound the same with few exceptions. This band, along with BTBAM and Dream Theater ARE modern metal/metalcore. I challenge you to A. Find one song that sounds at least somewhat similar to another within one of these bands, and B. Find one song that sounds similar out of all these artists combined. There aren't any. They are creativity at it's finest and have shaped metal and metalcore to what it is today. Each of these bands should be in the top 10 at least, and in my opinion top 5. Every single song they have ever put together are masterpieces in themselves, and the complete albums are heavenly gifts. If you haven't listened to either of these bands, you haven't listened to metal/core at all.

August Burns Red is so underrated. They should be higher up. And why are bands like Three Days Grace on here! I love them but they are definitely NOT metal.

So under rated what the hell people they should at least be like number 3

33 Black Sabbath Black Sabbath Black Sabbath were a Heavy Metal band formed in Birmingham, England in 1968 by guitarist and songwriter Tony Iommi, Singer Ozzy Osbourne, Bassist and Main Lyricist Geezer Butler and Drummer Bill Ward. The band got into mainstream after improving after their debut album got negative feedback. In 1978, more.

I know that these guys aren't modern metal but I think just because of the influence that they have had on every single band on this list they deserve to be number one. Not to mention the amazing body of work they have put out over the last 40 years.

All the singles are good and the vocals too but the meanings don't match.

So the first are modern? - SoldierOfFortune

No Sabbath - no metal.

34 As I Lay Dying As I Lay Dying As I Lay Dying is an American metalcore band from San Diego, California. Founded in 2000 by vocalist Tim Lambesis, the establishment of the band's first full lineup, which included drummer Jordan Mancino, occurred in 2001. As I Lay Dying has released six albums, one split album, and two compilation more.

Why is Metallica modern metal band? So as megadeath. This band has the best screamer/growler, insane drummer and a nice swift guitarist. Also the bassist owns because his clean vocal just makes me piss on my pants

I love this band

There are many metalcore band I called trash because they using to many palm muting style and poppy clean vocal but this? this band is different

This is crap why is this on this list

35 Dethklok Dethklok Dethklok is both a virtual band featured in the Adult Swim animated program Metalocalypse and a real band created to perform the band's melodic death metal music in live shows. Both bands were created by Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha. more.

Formed on October 12, 1991, the group was founded by vocalist and guitarist Robb Flynn and bassist Adam Duce. They have received great critical success especially for their album "The Blackening" which is considered a modern metal more.

They seriously need to be higher. At least top 15, The Blackening was one of the groove metal albums that can be listened to over and over. Listen to Halo & Beautiful Mourning and you'll see what I mean. Absolutely love them. - ViitalShadow

Machine Head's UNTO THE LOCUST! Listen to it! Review of reviewers it 10/10! B*tch -. - - joaocarvalho

Black Veil brides is above Machine head. Who bought the twelve year olds computers?

Been listening to them my whole life! I will always love them

Definitely one of the best modern metal bands, the vocalist can do it all. One of the best singers out there. The guitarist bassist and drummer are all solid as well

One of the best modern metal bands. The voice is amazing!

39 Iron Maiden Iron Maiden Iron Maiden are an English heavy metal band formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. The most critically acclaimed period for the band was from 1983-1989. With vocalist Bruce Dickinson, bassist Steve Harris, lead guitarist Dave Murray, rhythm guitarist Adrian more.

Maiden is a classic metal band & that's the main reason they're rotting down at #56. They don't really belong on this list in particular although they are one of the top 5 best metal bands in general.

They have been around since 175 and they are still awesome. I have been listening to them all my life, as my parents are fans, and I have always lovd them. I admit the vocals may not suit what they are singing but that is't a factor for my opinion in music to be honest though I'm not saying it isn't important. However I find the songs very catchy and I don't see why they are so far down in the list

Should be number two behind Avenged Sevenfold.

The best band in the world lml
