Best Morbid Angel Albums

Morbid Angel is a Tampa, Florida, United States-based Death Metal band assembled in 1984. They, along with Deicide, Death, Possessed, Autopsy, Suffocation, Obituary, Massacre and a handful of others were crucial in the development of the death metal genre and its standards. Their songs are complex in arrangement, owing to the considerable technical skills of both guitarist Trey Azagthoth and drummer Pete Sandoval.

To date, they have 8 Studio albums (all of them are just EPIC! ).

So, I think it will be hard to choose and vote for a Morbid Angel album for you, the voters.
Let the voting BEGIN!
The Top Ten
1 Altars of Madness

One of the best Death Metal albums of all time. Every second from the start to the very end is a 100% great. No crappy interludes. Very rarely is there an album that every single song is excellent. The speed, the solos, the composition, everything is perfect.

I don't think I'll ever be able to make a top MA list... They're all just so good
But if I do then My top 5 will be :
1. Alters of Madness
2. Covenant
3. Gateways to Annihilation
4. Blessed Are the Sick
5. Domination

Classic, I am a big fan o MA, and, sorry, this is the best one, co pioners of death metal made the best offer on this little piece here!

2 Covenant

There are only a few albums that you can classify as perfect and this is one of them, from beginning to end there are no weak spots. Songs are well written, leads are beyong amazing and the sound of the albums is legendary with the help of Metallica's old producer of great records like Ride, Master and Justice. A must have.

I love Altars of Madness and Blessed are the Sick, but Covenant is the best of all. Flawless, ultra fast and brutal. Even more catchy than the other two, and that's saying something!

3 Blessed Are the Sick

A pure majestic master class in musical beauty and Death Metal brutality.

COME forth Ancient Ones, Tiamat Kutulu
RISE, greet the cursed with your wrath
My enemies are yours
Twist their minds with your spells
Crush their souls
With your infernal grasp

4 Gateways to Annihilation

This should be number one in my opinion, an absolute masterpiece that takes you into a cold dark Lovecraftian nightmare, altars is great but there isn't a single death metal album remotely like this one, its just so original, fast and furious mixed with slow and crushing, the vocals are outstanding, morbid angel at there peak, if your going to try any morbid angel album get this one.

YES! That is exactly how I describe this album. Somehow, impossibly so, it is really fast and really slow at the same time. This was like the 4th Morbid Angel album I listened to, and it is so original and amazing. Not just great solely because it's original.

5 Domination

The production is huge and equals the band's major status, songwriting near perfection, amazing Rutan's leads... Apart from some the childish lyrics this is an absolute masterpiece.

Great album again, definitely get this if you're a MA fan. I like this album almost just as much as the three above it

This was playing in the truck for over a year straight.

6 Formulas Fatal to the Flesh

The riffs are fantastic on this. Heavily underrated album and one of Trey Azagthoths most creative.

7 Heretic

Heretic has the most counterpoint of any Morbid Angel album to date and that gives each track an underlying layer of depth hitherto undertaken in Morbid Angel's entire catalogue. Beneath the Hollow is one the best songs Morbid Angel ever composed and the counterpoint on Curse the Flesh when the chorus kicks in gives it more sonic nuance and sophistication. They're are the trademark Morbid Angel otherworldly dynamic moments like on God of Our Own Divinity. Every track possesses contrapuntal textures like those and I always am satisfied when hearing something that has worthwhile hidden secrets you have to unlock yourself. Maybe a "thicker" or "bassier" production style would work against the sonic fabric welded into the songs. Either way, highly underrated and misunderstood. One of Morbid Angel's best offerings dampened by an incredibly awkward track listing and obtuse production. The unorthodox production is initially off putting but later becomes an acquired taste.

8 Abomination of Desolation
9 Kingdoms Disdained

A brutal masterpiece of contemporary Death Metal. Achieves what so many new generation D.M. bands strive for. Songwriting is efficient, arrangements are concise and complex simultaneously, meter changes are masterfully handled and production sounds new and fresh. If you love rhythmic DM then this sets the standard.

10 Thy Kingdom Come
The Contenders
11 Illud Divinum Insanus

I don't think that it's supposedly that bad of an album, people and idiotic metal fans have this tendency to over-react and act like clones of each other, just because it has been severely criticised by some bunch of critics and metalheads. I'm very much sure if this album suddenly got approval and praise from the critics for the bold undertaking that the band took, then those numbskulls who were sitting comfortably in the couch commenting and dissing his album would change the color of their chameleon skin.
Half of the population is commenting without actively and consciously listening to the album, as their brains have been wired through relentless garbage opinions.
