Best Movies In the Nightmare On Elm Street Series

Which Freddy film deserves to be #1? List includes cross-overs and remakes.

The Top Ten Best Movies In the Nightmare On Elm Street Series

1 A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

This one is by far the best! It took itself more seriously than the others. even though some of the kills in it are not that imaginative like the ones in the other movies (I admit that I like the sequels. they're not as good as the first one, but they're still entertaining). the nightmare series does have a way combining many different kinds of genres. Action, Comedy, Science Fiction, Mystery, and of course Horror. the last one just seems to stick with the comedy and mystery aspect, which for a nightmare film, isn't good.

This is the original and the untainted version of freddy! No one can touch Robert as freddy and yea the guy who plays warshack or whatever is creepy, but its wrong to replace robert. This is the first and the best!

The original one was actually scary

This list is exact how I'd list it except I'd put freddy vs jason befoer number 5 and 6

2 A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 - Dream Warriors

Out of all the sequels in the series this one has to be the best. A very sick but enjoyable horror film.

It's outdated by today's standards but for it's time it was epic.

This movie has a great screen play not only by Wes Craven, but also by Frank Darabont. I've seen other movies he's written for including The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, that 80's remake of The Blob, and that 2010's remake of Godzilla.

It is one of the best because will made it seem like it was harry potter

3 Wes Craven's New Nightmare

I always thought this film didn't get the credit it deserved. This was such a creative way to revive the series. After so many films, the stories do tend to get a little repetitive. They were really thinking outside of the box for this one, so I give them lots of credit. I really love this movie.

Yep they thought out the box...way far from the box I despised this horrible and annoying movie! - spodermanfan1000

This was a awesome movie

Wes craven's new nightmare is as good mabye even better than the original.

Kind of good - ElSherlock

4 A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 - The Dream Master

This movie was the first time Robert Englund got his name in the opening. he wasn't a mystery anymore, he was Robert Englund!

This should be number 1 or at least number 2. For the best I'm stuck between this and the first one

Better than Wes cravens new nightmare

I think this one is the best one

5 Freddy v. Jason

Of course, not the greatest, but I still love the movie nonetheless. Great acting, and I LOVE Robert Englund... Am I the only one?

Described by Robert Englund as a "love letter to the fans", Freddy vs Jason is an absolutely entertaining entry into the slasher genre that finally pits the two biggest villains against one another, and their over-the-top, gory fight is just what fans had been waiting for. - JR302

I like the actors in this movie. especially Jason Ritter (John Ritter's Son) He did a good job.

So cool to see the two most famous killers in this movie, even if this is not a masterpiece. - Olive855

6 A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 - Freddy's Revenge

My fave is the first one as far as I am concerned but many people hate this one (for whatever reason), and I just want to say this one was also excellent. Picture yourself as Jesse, anyway. If you don't want that happening to you, I'd say you should vote for this.

Here's something weird. one of the posters for this movie shows Freddy without his glove, but there are razors coming out of the fingers on his right hand. kinda looks like he didn't clip his nails for so long.

This movie socks ass because it doesn't have any good kills

Freddy returns in this one - ElSherlock

7 Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare

Peter Jackson's original screenplay was that Freddy was a joke and the kids of Springwood would take sleeping pills just so they could go into their dreams and beat up Freddy. wonder what made the producers skip that script?

This movie was also in 3D. terrible 3D by the way. the DVD comes with 3D glasses so you can try it at home, but it still looks bad.

Another positive moment is that it's cool to see Robert Englund as his Freddy character without the makeup.

Those close up shots of Freddy and The Dream Demons are just annoying it's trying way to hard to be scary.

8 A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child

Why is this movie so low, and so hated by the fanbase? For a ANOES film, it's actually pretty great.

The dream sequences are very Gothic and surreal, and the consistency of environment was an interesting concept hearkening back to the boiler room of the older films. The kills, while relatively few in number, are very elaborate and gruesome, and this film likely shows Freddy at his most sadistic and cruel. Alice really becomes fleshed out as a character more, with the film using her as a method by which to tackle mature themes of abortion, pregnancy, and motherhood; as for her friends, they are used to engage in thought on drunk driving, excessive parental pressure, and the nature of human relations. Also, the characters in this film are simply some of the better ones in the franchise.

Freddy is also at what may be his best: he's particularly chatty, actually fairly clever and funny; but, he's incredibly menacing, and unlike the previous films where one may have laughed ...more - JR302

I liked the concept of Freddy trying to come back through Alice's unborn child. - Roach

Robert's least favorite. He said he really disliked this one. I love all them the same, but if he wants it that way, maybe it is meant to be. But one thing: Greta's death was so creepy.

I like this movie because the tone is more darker and the dream sequences are more Gothic and imaginative. and I also like the special effects.

9 A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

Doesn't even deserve to be on this list as far as I'm concerned. Wasn't good. Freddy looks like an alien. And in the last Nightmare, the 6th one, I actually turned the T.V. off because I couldn't watch Freddy die. I'm buying all the Nightmares at Amazon, too! Original's always better, anyway. This one just wasn't good. Or as good as the originals.

This movie was not that bad (I like it), but it lost all the psychological suspense of the first movie and this is sad. Also, the make-up of Freddy could be better. Even the main actor Jackie earle haley couldn't save the movie from the critics - Olive855

This one is the best it is the scariest by far - Zzxusdjakkkd

Why do people hate this movie I loved it was great and it was just as scary as the original
