21 Schindler's List

Profound... History telling in a manner that is bound to leave you thinking and pondering over a lot of questions... From who are we as humans? Are we able to forgive and to share the bond that humanity is all about... Why do we fight when it belongs to no one and yet to all of us.. And yes to see a man crying for the rings he wore... That could have saved someones life is definitely beautiful...

A great way to show the impact of a true tragedy. My daughter sat with her Daughter and watched it about 4 times, the first couple stopping and explaining the historic relevance. My Grand Daughter has some learning disabilities and they planned to watch the movie in school. I am proud to say My Granddaughter was the only one in the class able to discuss the movie and according to the Teacher was able to help the other students understand more about an awful time in history. It is well worth watching and re watching especially with children so they understand. After all those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Just recently watched this movie, and I can say it is absolutely one of the top ten movies I have ever seen in my life. Not too heartretching, but enough, but the character of a man who was wise and by his wisdom acted out a roll that saved many. He did not become evil or even kill evil, he used his talents, wealth, and wisdom to save others. Bravo to this man and Bravo to the writer, and thank you for the experience. With many murders in this day and age, how to not agree with but continue a path of the greater good, and to use it for the greater good had an amazing payoff. I just say WOW!

There is no better movie. End of competition.

22 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2

Its really a good movie and has a well built story. I'm voting this because it is my last harry potter movie and I will really miss Harry Potter. Vote for this harry fans

Can't believe this film at this position. This is really an amazing movie... Might be not in top 3 but it expect at-least the top 10 position. Please potter fans vote for this film.. And surely we are going to miss harry a lot.. Please if you can vote and comment..

I'm a fan of the franchise, it's in my top 10 favorite movies, I didn't vote for it because my favorite movie is The Empire Strikes Back - PeeledBanana

Oh please! This movie here? I really expected it on at least top 3. A good movie, could have been made better, as expectations were running very high from die hard potter fans like me.

Should be in top ten. This movie is god tier amazing.

23 Braveheart

William Wallace is the real man, I could never see a person who can die for his country and his love too, if you saw that movie hundred times I seriously take the responsibility in the and end of movie you'll have a crazy smile on your face.

I love this movie, definitely my favorite movie of all time, better than Gladiator at least.

The best movie I had ever seen. Mel Gibson has the spirit, I how he does his job.

Mel Gibson is an a-hole but I love this movie. William Wallace was a true patriot.

24 Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

Best of the prequels, but doesn't really need to be higher than films like Jaws, Rocky, Toy Story, and RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. This movie was good, and answered many questions I had about the saga. However, I feel there are better films and that this should be lower than 31. - TheWiseOne

This is my best film ever, the drama and the tragic downfall of Anakin and becoming Darth Vader is awesome and the lightsaber duels are the best in the entire Star Wars Franchise! Should be at least in the top 50. - jamie

Yeah... but it did have some AWFUL CGI for the time at which it was made. It looked blatantly fake, while movies 20 years earlier did what they could with their budget. (Like BTTF or Alien) Therefore, the fact it could not make great special effects with a massive budget is just disappointing. And don't forget, Episode III should be nowhere NEAR any of the original 3 films, and episode VII! - sweetbeef

Quit hating on the prequel series, it was really good, some bad casting, but really good

25 2001: A Space Odyssey

A true masterpiece. Seeing this movie for the first time is a unbelievable experience. - miketm

This film is incredible, mostly because it transcends its label of being a "film", which is a feat that only a few pictures have ever achieved. It is an experience. Kubricks vision propelled decades beyond 1968, offering us the chance to contemplate our existence, the advancement of technology and why we are here. The stunning visuals hold up wonderfully even to this day, and the orchestral contribution can take you from awe and beauty, to fear of the unknown in minutes. A truly glorious and atmospheric depiction of what lies beyond.

Can't believe this is only number 128 when it's one of the deepest films ever made. Filled with messages and ahead of its time. Great special effects, everything about it is perfectly done. Stanley Kubrick is so underrated on this list, half of his films should be on here. - Virtuoso

Timeless mistery.
Except some minor details, it looks like is shot today.

26 One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

Number 100? Should have been the number 1. This was a classic. A real, timeless classic. Every human being in this world should watch this movie. I love Jack Nicholson, this is his best role ever. Sorry the Shining fans.

all in all a very powerful film an american classic - heresjohnny

This great story was done as a small theater production in San Francisco. It ran for many years (10 or more) with Johnny Weismuller, Jr. In the Lead Role. Michael Douglas was filming Streets of San Francisco the T.V. series and saw the play... I imagine he thought to play the lead role himself. He purchased the rights and Nicholson was cast. Don't know whatever happened to Weismuller... Likely broke his heart since he'd been the soul of this small theater production for so many years.

Funny, sad, real. Watch it over and over. Should be top 10.

27 Toy Story

I watch this every year of my life - jakeocchipinti

All toy story movies are fantastic

I love this movie it's the best Disney film to date no one does a child targeted movie but make it fantastic like Pixar does while movies like boyhood get praised for stupid things like showing what it's like growing up this movie shows what your imagination can do and that's how the movie was created

Yes is The Best

28 Jurassic Park

My name is Dustin Bible and I cannot believe that Jurassic Park is only 33. I mean I love dinosaurs, despite the fact that mixed dinosaurs from two different time periods and that doesn't make sense to a dino expert like myself. I mean come on who was the fact checker on this. I read the book and the dang T-Rex doesn't have such a dramatic part. Since we are on the book what happened to the aviary. They saved it for the crappy third movie just so they could get that overrated short-armed chicken looking T-Rex more screen time. Why didn't they have an "brontosaurus", sorry I prefer the unofficial name.

If you can make a movie about dinosaurs that awesome and believable then you deserve to be number one - lopedogg55

Hi, I'm Tom Jeferson and I believe that if the movie had actually tried to follow what the booki was, it would've been too long but still, the book had way better scenes like the boat chase. One thing the book had was more characters and Muldoon actually lived. While I'm typing this, the first Pirates of the Caribbean was better than the second, and harry potter was an alright book series, wasn't a fan of the movies. Though I concure, the genetics could be used to make cloned dino's, but their molecular structure would be too unsecure for them to adapt that fast. I doubt if in reality they could even breathe out air, if all of the parts were even there.

Love it... this is the movie that got me into dinosaurs ya know And I can't wait for jurassic world fallen kingdom aka jurassic park 5/jurassic world 2

29 Apocalypse Now

NO other movie compares to this experience! You are drawn in and become a member of the boats crew on a psychological journey of vast and hellish proportions. You are in the minds of Captain Willard and Colonel Kurtz. You will KNOW insanity. Too many scenes to list are forever burned into memory: Surfing to "Satisfaction", Napalm in the morning, "The Ride of the Valkyries" attack, the Do Long Bridge trip, the Water Buffalo's "End", music from The Doors, members of the Grateful Dead, all based on Joseph Conrad's masterpiece "Heart of Darkness. " See this before you die! - IgnoreThis

I know that if I am going to watch this film I will need to be without interruption. This film engrosses me every time I watch it. Coppola was blessed with a gift for movie making. I would also add the documentary, 'Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse'. Just as engrossing and dramatic. - mgenet

I am relatively new to movies in general due to my age. I love them and I have seen many more movies than the average adult has. But compared to some film buffs; and I mean real film buffs ( no not you ), ones who would never dwell on such a site as toptens or even particularly care about your mediocre opinions on movies(sorry). I am nothing. That said I have seen the basics and know bad from good. I believe a film is rated on the feelings it gives you, and sure something like The Dark Knight has been filmed well and has good acting. But I felt nothing it was superficial and bland and left my feelings dim and cold. Apocalypse now on the other hand did not need to be analysed to be good like so many other films. Instead you just sit in awe. It is beautiful and no movie ever (and that is including the majority of this toilet of a list) has ever made me feel the way it did.

good

30 The Shining

From Stanley THE MAN, the Shining is one his best movies. So dark, troubling, and haunting that it bothers you for years after you see it... A masterpiece of cinema and the greatest horror movie ever made.

Could you believe that this film was nominated for two golden raspberry awards? I'm not even kidding, it was. one for worst director (Stanley Kubrick) and the other for worst actress (Shelly Duvall). but we can agree that shelly wasn't that good of a performance in the movie because kubrick was so displeased with duvall on set that he immediately terrorized her and mistreated her to get the acting right. shelly being so stressed that some of her hair fell out.

I'm getting a little sidetracked here. so yes the shinning received mixed critical response for not being a conventional horror film and was nominated for two razzies.

But don't worry. when it was released on VHS critics immediately re-assessed it. even Roger Ebert saying it is one of the greatest horror films ever made, calling it "strangely disturbing".

I wish Stanley Kubrick didn't exclude the hedge animals from the book. In the book, there were 7 hedges that looked like animals and they came to life. They're not in the movie. I think they should have had this one scene where after danny runs outside from jack, he runs into the hedges that come to life, danny then closes his eyes hoping for them to go away just like he did with the twin girls. Then when he opens them the hedges are covered in blood, guts, and body parts which frightens danny. Now that would've been creative and scary.

Best film. It actually draws with Mulholland Dr for me, but this has a far better chance of getting in the Top 10 than Mulholland Drive at a shocking 398.

31 Marvel's The Avengers

This movie was the perfect creation. It was made at the perfect time of the Marvel character development stage, and with modern technology, comic book heroes with the incredible depth and allure of imaginative geniuses came to life. With the vast data pool of Marvel knowledge collected by most to see and enjoy The Avengers, they will only ever see it as THE compliment to the universe Marvel Studios has created. With a refreshing mix of action, comedy, emotion, predictability, and unpredictability, it creates new pathways and ties in others, and leaves you only wanting more.

The plot was perfect. The animation was completely amazed me. It reached a big success in super hero movies. Defeat the other else income if I could say so...

I don't even know why this isn't on the list. This movie has been recognized internationally as the best movie ever made, not to mention the extensive budget used in it. Basically, it has a platoon of great actors. I mean, please: Robert Downey Jr, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, etc...

It's the best movie of 2012. - Fullwalking2

34 Gone With The Wind

Gone With the Wind is the absolute best all-time movie ever made and it has the Staying Power to prove it. Most of the voters here have probably never seen it. What a story! What a movie! I have watched it many, many times and love it all the more each time. See this one if you want to see a Real Epic!

How can people say gone with the wind is not the ALL TIME GREATEST MOVIE. I am only 20 years old, but this is the best and always will be the greatest movie ever made. I mean you put fight club, and gladiator at top 10. Those don't even compare to Gone With The Wind.

This is the greatest movie & book ever made because it really depicts a greater understanding of the time during the Civil War and everything else rolled up into one!! It's captivating and thrilling for the soul!! My favorite of all time!!

The best ever. I have to watch it at least one time of every year...

35 A Clockwork Orange

Confusing, beautiful and hilarious. This movie confronts the audience with only the finest, most carefully crafted chaos. Whacky characters and superb irony. This movie has cult-followers for a reason.

Controversial, Futuristic, Masterpiece, Alex DeLarge and Droogs, Milk Plus, Humanity spirit, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Ludovico treatment oh this movie will cure you alright why not in the top 10?

36 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

This movie is considered to be in the top 20 movies of all time, and it is this low? You have got to be kidding, nominated for 14 oscars including best picture. It had some amazing scenery and visual effects and excellent performances from the actors.

The most amazing journey and quite possibly the greatest movie of all time if you really think about it! The greatest Fantasy of all time, nominated for 14 Oscars and won 4. Any website would definitely put this in their top 20 movies, I don't understand why it is so damn low!?

top 20 for sure, this is one of the best movies of all time in my opinion and in everybody's opinion this website is so corrupt

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! WHY IS IT THIS LOW?!

37 Gladiator

Maximus to Commodus: "My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."

Most bad ass quote of all time

This has to have the best series of fighting scenes ever, and just the story alone is a really good story, why its not at the top I don't know.

Russel Crowe did great acting
And its one of my best movie
He didn't gave up because he loved his family and he wanted revenge

I will stop to watch this any time it is playing, no matter if the beginning middle or towards the end.

38 The Silence of the Lambs

How is this so low, its one of the best I've ever seen!

Every second of this masterpiece is perfectly crafted. It is the most spine-chilling, horrifying journey into the human psyche imaginable and it terrifies me every time I watch it. There will never be a better movie made than this one.

Disturbing insight into the mind of a cannibal1 Anthony Hopkins gives the greatest performance on screen and Jodie Foster the same!

From the very first moment, it will drive you in suspenses and great direction will tell you a common serial-killer story in a very different and great way.

39 Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

Sensational conclusion to the greatest franchise of all time. This movie was an amazing hit and it will always be in our heart, also just plain awesome! "IT'S A TRAP! " is the best quote from Admiral Ackbar

Most definitely better than a lot of movies on this list and is thrilling as anything. The most amazing Sci Fi of all time, but had a stupid ending!

It was the weakest of the trilogy. But it still is an amazing movie to watch over and over again, great action and an unforgettable conclusion.

Awesome movie! All the characters remain great and it concludes all the themes in this classic trilogy!
