Heavy Metal music is a sub-genre of rock music that originated in the late 1960s-70s, featuring more distorted and heavier instrumental work and darker lyrical themes. Heavy Metal broke into mainstream success with bands such as Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Metallica. ...read more.
Heavy metal is such A ridiculously diverse genre from the traditional metal of the 60s to the much more aggressive complex and extreme genres like Death metal and Neo-classical.
There's something for everybody in metal (including rap, electronic, CLASSICAL, trance, JAZZ, FOLK, punk and even beautiful atmospheric music fans because metal has been CROSSED with all of these styles... which make up the 100s of subgenres heavy metal now contains. )
From the truly beautiful and epic like Nightwish, Helloween, Dream theatre, Blind guardian, stratovarius, While heaven wept, Kamelot, Rhaposdy of fire, Draconian and Ensiferum.
To the blistering complexity and technicality of the likes of ygnwie Malmsteen, Paul gilbert, Jason Becker, Nevermore, Spawn of Possession, Necrophagist, Nocturnus, Brain drill, Coroner, Watchtower, Blotted Science and I hate to admit it but also Dragonforce (they aren't as technical as most of the guys on the list but deserve A mention. )

Rap can have good music with very good written lyrics with artists like 2pac and Eminem, pop can have good artists as well such as Michael Jackson and even classical has amazing artists but without a debt heavy metal is the best music genre. the amount of variety in the genre including the rock genres are amazing from the soul disturbing of black metal to breath taking speed and intensity of thrash and nothing can touch your soul more then a spine tingling awesome guitar solo. Metal has an immortal power that just can't be killed heavy metal and rock can be whatever you want it to be their is a band for everyone and the thing I love about metal is the strength of it's culture and unity and when a hard working band becomes big their never forgotten unlike most pop artists where they just come out bring out a few generic number one singles then they disappear and people forget about them not in heavy metal m/
Metal has been the strongest music genre, all 40 of the years it has been around. In those 40 years, metal has endured far more controversy than any other genre. In spite of this, it is still going strong. Metal has the most devoted fans than any other genre.
Unlike most of the genres here, a good metal song is timeless. With a popular pop song, two years tops and then its off to never never land with the rest of the forgotten stuff. No one remembers Big Time Rush anymore but plenty of people are still headbanging to pantera, and they've been gone for a while. I know people will disagree with this but metal has gotten better as it has evolved. It is also one of the most varied genre of music out there, with all of the subgenres. If you don't like brutal death metal you can listen to some old judas priest, or something like that. With how much it has evolved, I'd go as far to say that its on a new level. All of these things make metal what it is, and makes it a step above ...more
(Why I also hate most of the pop genre) I love heavy metal. When you think about it, a regular pop genre loving person should realize it's not "as bad" as everyone thinks. The heavy metal genre has more songs with more and better meanings than pop music. All pop music is these days is about sex, drugs, partying and really just isn't healthy. A lot of children listen to this music and people still think it's alright to talk about that horrible stuff. 10-year olds are now twerking and smoking weed because they think it's cool, they get encouragement from most of the pop and rap music they listen to. It also encourages boys and girls that only looks matter, which is almost as worse. Almost everything about the pop genre just makes me sick to my stomach. People only think the heavy metal genre is bad because it has a lot of swearing and only is for "Satanists". I am nowhere near 1% a Satanist, and I listen to a lot of heavy metal. But, if people haven't notices, pop ...more
Heavy Metal is the most pure sub-genres of Rock, in Heavy Metal the use of the instruments is more intense than in any other genres. Heavy Metal is not "Satan's Rock", Heavy Metal is the Rock with more instrumental power. In the history of Heavy Metal we had some awesome bands like:
Judas Priest and Iron Maiden in the 70's
Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer in the 80's (THOSE BANDS ARE TRASH METAL BANDS, ONE HEAVY METAL's SUB-GENRES)
IN the 60's we had Led zeppelin, one of the best bands in history.
(Sorry about the bad English)
"You can't kill the metal. The metal will live on." Metal is the only genre that never dies out. "Others challenge or imitate, but it never goes away." It goes in waves of excellence. When the mainstream starts to suck (like it does now with metal core), just head underground and you will find New Wave of Thrash. Then the mainstream will just evolve into something else. This alone is enough reason to say metal is the best. My statements don't even include the highly valid points like: Talent, musicianship, fans, lyrics, diversity, role models, etc. Believe me. I would much rather have kids who idolize Dave Mustaine, Bruce Dickenson, Cliff Burton, or anyone else then kids who follow lil Wayne, Miley Cyrus, and other musical abominations.
Yes heavy metal is the best. I mean there's black Sabbath, megadeth, slipknot, disturbed, Metallica, tool, death, cannibal corpse, immortal, gorgoroth, mayhem, burzum, carcass, slayer, iron maiden, avenged sevenfold, motorhead, pantera, dimmu borgir, mushroomhead, korn, opeth, morbid angel, summoning, behemoth, bloodbath, cattle decapitation, vader, danzig, enslaved, emperor, darkthrone, helloween, dragonforce, nile, obituary, cryptopsy, possessed, dio, satyricon, suffocation, take, system of a down, venom, rammstein, napalm death, led zeppelin, katalepsy, GWAR, deicide, drudkh, decapitated, bolt thrower, autopsy, arch enemy, bathory, benighted, aborted, amon amarth, abigor, silencer, xasthur, hellhamer, celtic frost, testament, exodus, lordi, kreator, anthrax, dream theater, judas priest, alice in chains, merciful fate/king diamond, agalloch, killswitch engage, lamb of god the list goes on and on. it goes on forever, I probably named you 1/100 of the metal bands out there. there are ...more
Heavy Metal is the best genre of music, because it takes a lot of skills to play the instruments such as guitars, drums and bass. Heavy Metal has the best lyrics, the lyrics are about society, love, positivity, inner-struggles... but there are SOME who have satanic lyrics, those are the bands that ruin Heavy Metal and those are the reason why people think that the Metal genre is satanic or it'll make you a bad person. Metal is different, if you develop a taste for Metal you will be able to comprehend things better than before. Heavy Metal is like a lifestyle, people who get into the genre consider it a very very BIG part of their life, they take it very serious, unlike people who prefer other genres of music. Straight to the point, Metal = Metal and it's the BEST, I'm saying it from experience I've had with other genres. I respect the other genres, I also listen to those, but Metal... different, way of life, passion... just GREAT m/
Heavy Metal where do I begin with this? Before I discovered this amazing genre, I was branching to many genres of music and I wanted to find what sounds best for me. After being bored of hearing pop music everywhere, I looked up a band called Disturbed and when I heard it, it sounded awesome and I continued to listen to other bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Slipknot, Three Days Grace and the list keeps going on. Some people think that metal music is just noise but you have to look above and beyond for the metal band that sounds right for you. Heavy Metal is here and it's not going anywhere anytime soon
Heavy metal. You can't kill the metal.
I was so happy to actually see that metal was at the top. Metal shall tear down all other genres, especially pop and rap.
Disturbed, A7X, Metallica, System of a Down, Bullet for my Valentine, Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc. for the win!
Rock music, in general, is not a part of the culture where I come from. My soul has been searching for comfort for a long long time in music. I've listened almost every genre of music out there, but I never found peace, till I started listening Rock. Especially, Metal. Everyone of us has a dark side inside us. We can't just unleash them and it is too bad. Heavy metal just feeds sufficient to the darker side of me. He doesn't come out and he will never until Heavy metal exists in this world!
You want a list? A7X, As I Lay dying, august burns red, becoming the archetype, the devil wears prada, children of bodom, dark tranquility, dream theater, in flames, iron maiden, kalmah, judas priest, megadeth, Metallica, meshuggah, Opeth, eternal tears of sorrow, queensryche, symphony x, slipknot, amon amarth. And you know what? Those are only the very best off the top of my head.
The first heavy metal bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple attracted large audiences, though they were often critically reviled, a status common throughout the history of the genre. In the mid-1970s Judas Priest helped spur the genre's evolution by discarding much of its blues influence; Motörhead introduced a punk rock sensibility and an increasing emphasis on speed. Bands in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal such as Iron Maiden followed in a similar vein. Before the end of the decade, heavy metal had attracted a worldwide following of fans known as "metalheads" or "headbangers".
Heavy Metal is ablsolutely nothing but awesome! I appreciate all genres and have to say that heavy metal is definitely at the top. I am a guitarist myself and have to say the riffs, breakdowns and solos are clearly the most difficult to play. Some people say metal sounds crap because of the screaming and negative lyrics. But if you take a minute to realise how well put together most metal is I'm sure you will agree metal is much more awesome than you think. Some really good metal bands that have not been mentioned yet are August Burns Red, Killswith Engage, As I Lay Dying, Parkway Drive and I cannot believe PANTERA has not been mentioned yet. RIP Dimebag
People actually think that one direction is good? How stupid can you possibly be?! Metal is and always will be the greatest music genre in the history on mankind! Screw pop and world music! They suck! Metal rules with an iron fist and the only reason pop is still around is because it's not worth metal's time! Disturbed, breaking benjamin evanescence and slipknot will always rule! Metal will always rule!
Now I'm not biased against any form of genre, but I honestly think metal is the better genre (in my opinion). It has a wide variety of different genres. Folk metal, black metal, nu metal, industrial metal, alternative metal, Christian metal, and many more. A lot of people say metal is just a bunch of screaming and takes no talent but that's not true. Most metal comes from the heart and there are actually metal songs about love, the government, mythology, horror, even about celebrating life.
It beats out the others in my opinion in the sense that it is simply music, there are many different types of heavy metal or just metal in general, and they're all equal. It's that one genre that can't be boxed in or dismissed as stupid and it has given us some of the greatest bands to be making music to this day. I can still love and respect the others, and they don't suck, just saying, guaranteed you like at least one song in that genre you're supposed to hate, but this one just hits home. It will always be the best.
It's always saddening to see heavy metal overshadowed by pop. Everyone at my school drools over things like Justin Beiber and even one hit wonders, but whenever I mention Iron Maiden, they look at me with distaste. They all think it's people screaming into a mic and brainwashing you to be satanists or something, BUT THAT'S NOT TRUE! To be honest, pop has worse messages; it's just sex, drugs, and partying (of course, that doesn't apply to EVERY pop song, but to most mainstream pop).
Rock is the best genre ever because it's most versatile and Heavy Metal is the best sub-genre of rock because it has it all: blues influence, classical influence, modern influence... All combined with such awesomeness and power of twin (or even more) electric guitars, astonishing screaming opera-like voice and furiously fast beat.
In my humble opinion Judas Priest defined what HM is all about.
Absolutely the most technical/difficult genre to play all around, which is probably one of the most objective ways of saying what the "best" genre of music is. Additionally, it has a very big culture to it and the fans are more loyal than say, pop fans. Also, almost all of the sounds heard in it are real and actually played and require skill, versus the songs being put together on a computer without necessarily needing much musical talent.
HEAVY METAL RULES THE MUSIC WORLD!
Its the best, And nothing beats it
I mean I like all kinds of genres Except Techno, BUT METAL IS THE ULTIMATELY GREATEST And it will always be. Shout along "THEY CANT STOP US, Let em try, For heavy metal, WE WILL DIE! " *Fist in the air* - D2Demon
You can beat metal, with bands like pantera, metallica, anthrax, slayer, a7x, slipknot, megadeath, black sabbath, judas priest, iron maiden, disturbed, bullet for my valentine, five finger death punch, basically any metal band that isn't nu-metal or alt-metal (except disturbed, they are alt-metal and they are actually amazing, and a7x if you count them as it) it is easily the
I'm as happy as other people who love heavy metal to see it on top. And deserves to for many resons the biggest ones are, the music is clean, simple and skillful.
The music is clean because they don't have to talk about how straight they are or how much sex they get in a week.
The music is simple because they don't use too many different insruments to make the most awesome sound possible.
The music is skillful because the soul of the music comes from the instuments and not from a mix bord which anyone can download of the internet for free.
Metal, especially power metal and thrash metal, is one of those more technical musical genres, and it's more than just legendary, I WILL tell you that. It may not be as technical as classical (power metal is on par with classical, however), but there's just one unique feature that metal has, and that's POWER. The mind-blowing guitars, the pounding drums, the thundering bass, the melodic keyboards, the vocals- this combo is just plain excellent. You might want to start with bands like Power Quest, Neonfly, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Sonata Arctica, or Manowar.
I'm perhaps the only girl in my school who listens to Nightwish, Device, Within Temptation, Kamelot, Immortal, Arch Enemy, Ozzy Osbourne, stuff like that. I consider myself pretty tolerant, and I also listen to stuff like Evanescence, P! Nk, Three Days Grace, Fall Out Boy, Aaliyah, Bon Jovi, Lita Ford, Halestorm, the Offspring, Ellie Goulding, , hell, evenTaylor Swift! So quite a few different ones. Born in the wrong generation. I'm surrounded by people who have the audacity to say these people suck, and who swear One Direction and Nicki Minaj are the best ever. That is simply not true. It is one of the most diverse genres, metal that is, and contrary to popular belief, requires emotion and talent. Maybe it's the guitars, or the lyrics, or the vocals. But everyone has at least one metal song they like. Check if you don't believe me.
