Rock n' Roll

Rock music is a music genre that was created in the 1950s . The genre really got popular in the 60s, 70s and 80s . It generally consists of a guitar player, a drummer, bass player and singer . There are a lot of rock subgenres .

This genre in terms of music in general is probably holds the advantage because it is the most musical. It isn't just an electronically altered voice over a repetitive melody. It takes actual talent to create this music and the people who create it are actually people, not pretty faces and whacky costumes that seem to be the only method that person has of getting attention. Rock artists earn this attention through a mix of hard work and real musical talent. They love what they do because they love music, not attention.

I love all kind of rock and I'm happy to see them all leading on this list but I'm voting for rock n roll because it was the first step on creating this great music these great genres of rock I listen to bands that were created 30 years before I was born and I wish I could live in that time to see the doors jimi hendrix and many other bands and singers I can't see anymore live so lets just rock n roll my dear friends

This genre has taken elements from other genres and combined them. It inspired songs in other genres and people still listen to it. People vote for this, you know this genre gave us the music of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Beach Boys, Cream, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Eagles, Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Velvet Underground among many other greats. How in this crap world is rap and pop even on this list? Listen to some Rock, Metal, Jazz, Blues, Country, Classical, Alternative, Easy Listening and you will see what music is. Dance? Electronic? Pop? (old pop is good but modern pop sucks) Rap? Hip-Hop? Whoever that likes those 5 genres has no taste in music.

Electronic is underrated, it has some really good songs and artists. - MChkflaguard_Yt

The Beatles.
David Bowie.
Led Zeppelin.
Jefferson Airplane.
The Verve.
The Rolling Stones.
The Hollies.
The Zombies.
The Animals.

How in the world is this genre not number one? These people raised the USA. They're more legendary than your One Direction and Jonas Brothers (at least THAT'S not number one! ), whatever people listen to lately. But... heavy metal?

Rock n roll is by far the best because
1. Led Zeppelin
2. The Beatles
3 the Rolling Stones
4 Pink Floyd
5 jimi hendrix
6 Guns n roses
7 the who
9 the doors
10 Nirvana

And everyone needs to stop calling Led Zeppelin Heavy metal because they aren't. They are a rock n roll band, one of their songs is called rock n roll you idiots and songs like Stairway to heaven, fool in the rain, Going to California, and hey hey what can I do aren't metal at all!

Thank you, I am a huge fan of rock, and metal and I hate when people call Zeppelin metal

Heavy metal for the most part is garbage. It's just a bunch of guys screaming about blood and guts. They focus more on being shocking and provoking to get more attention then they do on making good music. I have no doubts that most of them are very talented musicians, but the music still sucks for the most part. Classic rock is where it's at. Bands like Queen, Led Zeppelin and Rush put their hearts in the music and not their image. This is very different from most genres today, like heavy metal and pop. Long live rock!

You literally have no clue what you're talking about. I love rock, but metal is amazing both lyrically and musically. If you would get your head out of your ass and open your ears you would realize that.

I picked this because my favorite band is AC/DC, AC/DC are a pretty flexible band in that they could come under a number of genres, I.E. rock n roll, Hard rock, Classic rock, Blues rock, some would even class it as heavy metal. All in all I picked this one because it's AC/DC and it's the highest category they can be placed into so I thought I'd contribute.

50's Rock N' Roll 60's psychedelic and 70's progressive are by far the best music genres ever. Hard Rock and Metal are fine. Punk is too basic and stuff like death metal is just silly. Rap, RnB, Techno and the rest of modern music isn't even worth mentioning. Every one who listens to it is ether an idiot or never had the opportunity to listen to good music.

Rock is a very misunderstood genre. Some people, especially Christian groups, define rock as Satan's music, but I don't think it's as evil as people try to make it out to be. And not all rock is nasty or violent; it can be mellow and peaceful too. It depends on who's singing it.

Rock n roll is the most diverse genre, with its roots in blues and r&b it became a distinct genre yet has so many subgenres and the best of what is good in today's popular music is pop rock and alternative, both of which are rooted in rock. And let's not forget bands like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin! Let Rock Rule!

Rockabilly, The Blues, Classic Rock, Metal, Hair Bands, as Billy Joel said, "It's still rock n' roll to me"!

I think rock n roll is the best. Music today is distasteful. Some songs today are good but coming from people who listen to actually muscular they aren't. Music is an art that can't be mastered with a hit single that is fully autotuned. It is earned with hard work and dedication. If you looking to listen to some real music take a couple minutes listen to stairway to heaven or imagine. Some of the best songs ever written.

Are you telling me the greatest genre of all time isn't number one? This just doesn't make sense. Rock and Roll is better than anything the world has had to offer. And metal is just really, really hard rock. Nothing else comes close to Rock.

Perfect taste for all types of people. A great variety of rock, like classic rock like Elvis, Punk rock like the Sex pistols and the Ramones, and anything that's not Pop "rock" Pop is trash!

One of the best genres of music! I used to think pop is number 1 and hate rock, but when I found it again, man. I thought I was missing out! I love all the guitar solos, all the meanings, all of the instrumentals, everything. It's really worth listening too. This genre is the best! - MissRWBY202

I hate to see metal at number 1. Some bands and artists that I enjoy come from many different types of rock music like Glam Rock: Roxy Music, T. Rex, David Bowie, Mott The Hoople (around the release of all the young dudes); British Invasion: The Kinks, The Zombies, The Who, Small Faces; Rockabilly: Elvis Presley (duh), Buddy Holly (duh), Chuck Berry (rest in peace), Fats Domino; Pyschobilly (a weird one): The Cramps, The Gun Club; Punk Rock: The Clash, The Jam; Post Punk: Wire, The Fall; Singer Songwriter (this is quite broad just in case you didn't know): Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Townes Van Zandt, Van Morrison, Billy Joel, Elton John; New Wave: XTC, Squeeze.

Rock in roll is music everything else is not a genre and also you haven't lived until you have heard Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, AC/DC, Van Halen, guns n roses, paul mccartney, Metallica and anything that has the name rock along with it

Every genre currently in the top 8 besides classical are all just variations of the same genre. ROCK, ROCK, AND AGAIN ROCK! THE WORLD, QUITE LITERALLY WOULD NOT BE HERE WITHOUT IT!

Best music out there way better than country which seems to be music that is only about love or some one that died. I love this music and it always pumps me up when I go out for a run. Don't know what I would do without this music.

THE best genre. All other genres have at least a little influence from this. The best part is that it can be a lot of different things. It can be sad, soothing, upbeat, violent, edgy, funny, powerful, or many other things.

Guitars, bass, amazing drum beats with powerful vocals to wrap it around with. Classic Rock N' Roll has got to be number 1. Many legendary musicians are rock artists! they don't fake around. Their attitudes are as real as it could ever be, matching their songs. No auto tunes or synths, just pure amazing talent combined together to produce amazing songs! Oh and yes, my absolute favorite has got to be Guns N' Roses! nobody can every beat Axl Rose's voice that is angry loving raspy that has different ranges!

Punk, metal, psychedelic, heavy metal, blues rock (an actual thing), alternative, it's all there and is summed up under rock and roll. This is a great genre. Should be first then metal then psychedelic.

I didn't know whether to vote for this or alternative. But because alternative is a sub genre of Rock I voted for this.

Hot funk, cool punk, even if it's old junk, it's still rock and roll to me. - PetSounds
