The Top Ten
There is no such flag that has a true heroic and national meanings in its colors, only the Turkish flag's red can describe a nation's whole history from Middle Asia to Anatolia... The most beautiful design and the most charming meanings!
Turkish blood red in the flag represents the blood of the martyrs shed. At midnight on the blood in the form of a crescent moon and a star with the reflected image of the Turkish flag occurs.
In Turkish flag, red comes from blood that we shed on wars. Moon and stars comes from sky, that symbolizes freedom and democrasy.
Turkey has the most beautiful flag.V 130 Comments
The United States of America's flag, (Also known as "The stars and Stripes) is another very famous flag. The 50 stars represent the 50 states, and the 13 stripes represent the 13 ORIGINAL states. The blue background of the stars represents the azure sky and love for god. The red stripes represent courage, enthusiasam, valor, blood and life. The white stripes represent purity, and peace.
The American flag is by far one of the most aesthetically pleasing if not the most. It also captures with it a history that most national emblems don't, the 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies that gained their independence through sacrifice and within the blue chief the 50 stars represents each of the sovereign states within the union. Even the colors have their own meaning, justice being a founding virtue of the great republic.
"The colors of the pales (the vertical stripes) are those used in the flag of the United States of America; White signifies purity and innocence, Red, hardiness & valour, and Blue, the color of the Chief (the broad band above the stripes) signifies vigilance, perseverance & justice." Thank God I'm American and I love my flag so much the best flag in the world number 1
The most overrated flag, any flag that a little kid can represent well, is a bad flag, many stars, many stripes...in fact is his first template is equal of the East India Company, with the 13 stripes and the Union Jack...if the 13 stripes represent the 13 colonies why also put 13 stars in the canton? ;) Also in the 1800 still flags were used with blue & white stripes and others blue, white and reds nothing to do with the 13 colonies, only the stars...V 48 Comments
Bhagwa or the saffron colour denotes renunciation or disinterestedness. Our leaders must be indifferent to material gains and dedicate themselves to their work. The white in the centre is light, the path of truth to guide our conduct. The green shows our relation to (the) soil, our relation to the plant life here, on which all other life depends. The "Ashoka Chakra" in the centre of the white is the wheel of the law of dharma. Truth or satya, dharma or virtue ought to be the controlling principle of those who work under this flag. Again, the wheel denotes motion. There is death in stagnation. There is life in movement. India should no more resist change, it must move and go forward. The wheel represents the dynamism of a peaceful change.
India, s Flag is best in world as it defines Peace, Leadership & Happiness in its three Colours.

Brazilian colours have no such qualitative symbology, they are the colours of the imperial house (Green and Yellow) with the blue sphere being, in fact an armilary sphere showing the sky in Rio de Janeiro at the night of independence saw from space. The stars, beside being the stars that can be seen in that corner of space also represent the sates and the federal district. The motto (Order and Progress) comes from the Positivist motto "Love as a principle and order as the basis; Progress as the goal" which was a strong philosophical doctrine among the first republicans.
Definitely the best symbol of a nation, with striking and really meaningful colours, reminiscent of the past but minding the future.
This flag always catches my attention. I really like its awesome colors combination and shapes composition. I, too, think it stands in the crowd. Thank you very much for sharing the interesting meanings of each color and elements in the flag. Not in a million years I'd suspect that the green and yellow represent the Brazilian Imperial House. Finally, I loved your definition of this flag: "Definitely the best symbol of a nation, with striking and really meaningful colors, reminiscent of the past but minding the the future". I also happen to love the British Union Jack, Barbados and Albania. Thanks again.
The Brazil flag, displays its national motto, "Ordem e proggresso" (Order in progress) in a small white banner inside a blue circle, inside a yellow dimond, inside a green background. The green most likely represents the massive rain forests Brazil is home to.
Despite having many colors, each one occupying somee space, they are harmonic, in their own way.V 22 Comments
If you're travelling around the world and you run into someone with a Canada Flag on them... you know you just ran into someone friendly. It's a symbol of all the good things Canada stands for. - VADERtheIMPALER
With it's bright red maple leaf, Canada defenetly chose a flag that suited them well. The Maple leaf is for all the maple syrup they make, and is one of two countries that have the right climate to make it. The red stripes beside the maple leaf represent the heraldic colours of Canada and the white square surounding the maple leaf is known in heraldry as the Canadian Pale.
There is no other flag in this world that stands out like the Canadian flag. When traveling throughout the world, many Americans will wear this symbol so they can be safe from threats that would come if they wore their stars & stripes. The Canadian flag is very new (1965) but it has been flown in every corner of the planet and has been the symbol of peace, friendliness and honour.
May she always fly free.

The Union Jack [Potential pedants please note that it is still called the Union Jack when not on a ship. If you disagree, please do some actual research rather than repeating what was said to you in a pub]. The flag keeps to good vexilogical rules of three bold colours and has a very pleasing and balanced asymmetry (wide-wide up at the hoist or it is upside down! ) It is among the best flags due to a level of brand awareness possibly only shared with the stars & stripes. Change the colours or change it to black & white, or even put just one half of it on a t-shirt or bag it is STILL recognizable. This would not work with most other flags unless they had a complex symbol. By the way if Scotland become independent it will still exist. The first Union Flag existed from 1606 to the political union in 1707, because the countries shared the same monarch from 1603 and will continue to do so.
The Britan Flag, (also known as The Union Jack) has many meanings to it, and is one of the most famous flags in the world. The blue background of the flag represents scotand, and the white outline of the red "X" represents Scotland aswell. The white outline of the red cross in the middle, represents England. A beautifull design!
Everytime I see this flag it lites a spark in my heart. a red england cross and a white scottish cross with a red Northern Irish cross inside. Its got to be the best why else would loads of countries used it in their flag. (Apart from how they were members of the British empire.
The best-looking and most-recognised flag in the world. Distinguished, distinctive, hold - all of the attributes which make Britain the country that has given more to the world than any other.V 44 Comments
Well I. M Mexican what can I say I love my flag 'because has history and just few of the Mexicans know the meaning of the colors that has the flag a lot know about the eagle but just few know about the colors. Thanks
The Mexican flag relates the legend of Tenochtitlan. The eagle and serpent, and the colors of the flag represent what it truly means to be Mexican, and it tells the world a part of Mexican history. Viva Mexico!
Our flag represents too much, love, brotherhood, sovereignty, honor, loyalty, and above all means the living blood of men and women who fought for their country, for their beliefs, their family and especially their freedom, thanks to them today we can be free wherever we go, it will remain because we inherited the true honor to our house, and taught us that to achieve many things you have to work and fight for it, for me the eagle represents every Mexican willing to fighting that snake that represents everything that hurts nustra nation, homeland and national freedom. That and much more Mexico is the most beautiful flag in the world!. - RodrigoJJ
I LOVE MEXICAN FLAGV 97 Comments
Really, it is beautiful. You have got to be brave to put black as your primary color, but it works for them.
This flag is one of the most encouraging, simple flags on Earth. All of the colors work to gether perfectly and portray the former beauty of the Fatherland as well as the people's present-day integrity, kindness and pride.
Then why not vote for Belgium?
They have exactly the same three colours and at least their food is better (not that there's much to beat with bratwurst and sauerkraut)
It is a boring design and it isn't any different then Italy.V 13 Comments
The philippine flag is composed of different colors the blue is the symbol for peace the red is for war the white is for purity and the 3 stars are the three main islands luzon visayas and mindanao the 8 rays are the first 8 revolutionary places to go against the spaniards and the philippine flag can be flipped around so that the red color is at the top which symbolizes war
The Republic of the Philippines' flag is called the 'Three Stars and a Sun'. General Emilio Aguinaldo, leader of the revolt against Spain, designed Philippines' flag. The equilateral triangle at the hoist denotes equality. Its white color symbolizes purity. The yellow sun stands for the giant steps made by Filipinos in building a nation. The sun's eight rays represent the first eight Filipino provinces to rebel against Spain. The tree yellow stars represent the main geographical regions - Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The blue stripe stands for peace, truth and justice. The red stripe symbolizes patriotism and valor. If Philippines is at war, the national flown upside down with the red band at top.
The only flag I think, where you can tell if the country is at war or at peace.

This is I think one of the simplest and best designed flags to be adopted in the last 50 years or so - even better than the Canadian one (although it shares the same qualities of symmetry and sharp simplicity as the maple leaf).
The red color represent the blood of martyrs and militants who sacrificed themselves for the freedom of the country, the white color represent :peace & tolerance toward all the other countries and races and religions THIS IS THE BEST FLAG
You can understand the story of Tunisia through this magnificent flag

NOT a country!
The red in the center of the japanise flag represents the red of the sun disk, whick makes sense because the meaning of the name Japan is "Source of the sun. "
Simple (one disc, not fifty! ) yet significant design. Fewest possibly interesting colours, and good ones, too. Definitely not eye-jarring or cluttered like more complicated flags often are. Beats even Canada.
It is beatiful to represent the sun
No matter what happens, the sun will rise again. this is how this flag encouraged the people to stand up after the worst times... that the sun is with the countryV 23 Comments
The Flag of Australia is a reflection of Australia's colonial past. (Discovered by the Dutch, Britain sends prisoners, Britain establishes New South Wales Colony, Granted Dominion, Gain Independence as a Commonwealth). The Aussie Flag includes a Union Flag in Canton (Upper-Left Corner) because when the Flag was designed it was part of the British Empire. The Southern Cross, the stars on the right, resembles a star constellation that can be seen from Australia. The Commonwealth/Federation star, the large star under U.K. Flag, represents the six original states of Australia, the seventh point represents any future states of Australia, at the time they thought it could be Papua New Guinea but it didn't.
Australia is a very beautiful flag. It has the Union Jack on it (See Great Britan) which signifies the link with Britan and the Commonwealth. It also has the Commonwealth star on it, with 7 points apposed to 5.
Yeah, I agree but that's bias coming form me :D. - tony26

United Kingdom is not a flag. The flag is called the 'Union Jack' and it's on this list already. - LemonComputer
The United Kingdom is in Great Britain. Great Britain was already on the list!
Just lines and not in anyway special.
Officially the Flag of the Kingdom of Great Britain and the Flag of the United Kingdom are different. The Only difference is that the Red Cross as a letter X isn't include on Great Britain's Flag but is on the U.K's Flag. But the People above probably mean the Current Flag not the previous one. And say Great Britain instead of the United Kingdom because lack of geography or history skills. (J.K. G.B. and U.K. are similar but not the Same lucky they didn't say England instead because the Scots will be angry).
Great Britain - Island of Great Britain - England, Scotland and Wales.
United Kingdom - Island of Great Britain and North-Eastern part of the Island of Ireland - Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The blue in the Greek flag represents the sea and the sky. The white represents the purity for freedom and the cleansing of the soul. The cross is for the religion. It has 9 lines to represent the phrase " Freedom or Death" during independence from the Ottomans. It also represents the 9 muses of Greek mythology
The Greek flag is a very beautiful flag. The white cross in the top left corner represents the religious orgins of the freedom movement. The nine stripes represent the number of syllables in the common greek battle cry, "Eleutheria H Thanatos", translated as "Freedom or death, "
It's the most elegant, peaceful and harmonious flag there is in the world these days. It fits perfectly with the beauty of the sky and its surroundings, no matter the weather.
This flag warms my heartV 19 Comments
Armenia's flag catches the eye of any viewer with incredible and mysterious beauty, not to mention the meaning behind the flag. Red for the blood shed for the Armenian land. Blue, symbolizing the sky. Orange, symbolizing agriculture and the soil.
The colors are much more balnced than some other countries, and that gives Armenia its beauty.V 3 Comments
Everybody know the French flag. Besides its beautiful, not particular but which inspired other countries for their own flag. It's more than a flag : it's the symbol of the French revolution and freedom. - lili117
Unlike its terrific national anthem, France's flag is neither distinctive nor inspired, and indeed, is outright boring. It is similar to flags of Russia, Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Colours area amazing. Symbolism is great.
The French Tricolour represents Freedom, Equality and Brotherhood (Fraternity). However it may also represent the three states of France when the flag was made, Nobility, Clergy and Commoners (You).
It was a variant of the Dutch Tricolour and was popular during the French Revolution but at the time the colours were reversed. The French Tricolour influence many nations to adopt flags with three banners/colours. Also the Dutch influenced many nations. After the 2015 Paris Attacks many Landmarks were showing the French Flag.
It's Simple, Elegant and Natural. How life should be.V 4 Comments
Iran's flag is just amazing with warm colors and sign of Allah at center of it. It looks like Mexico and Italy flag of course but with 45 degree rotation to right. It is also a historical flag

White is a traditional color of the Korean people. The emblem in the centre of the South Korean flag represents the dual forces of yin (blue) and yang (red). The yin and yang balance each other and maintain a harmonious existence by being complementary opposites, positive and negative, active and passive, male and female, night and day, good and evil and so on. Yin is the passive or static mode and yang the active or dynamic mode. The trigrams represent the elements of fire, water, earth, wood, and metal.
It is the national flag currently used from the time of being a colony in China.
The flag meaning is very interesting and also the colors shows a balance
Should be above Japan it is only because Japan is more popular.V 10 Comments
