Jordan Rant

2storm Michael Jordan, the player must people call the GOAT. In my opinion, he is not. In fact, he isn't even top 5. He is number 8 on my list. People have asked me ever since I got on the site why? Why do I hate on Jordan? Well today you have your answer in my Jordan Rant. We will be looking only at his NBA career and his personal life while in the NBA.

1. Jordan Needed Help
A lot of people believe Jordan carried the Bulls. That is blasphemy. People will always say Jordan has never missed the playoffs as a Bull, but then they forget Jordan has always had a great team around him. Of course he was always the best player on the team. All players in the GOAT discussion are. He always had a great team. Jordan always had a great second guy. Orlando Wooldridge and Quintin Dailey was there for his first and second season. In his second he also had George Gervin and Sydney Green. In his third and fourth season season he had Charles Oakley. You know in all 3 of those seasons they lost in the first round all 3 times and they were swept 2 times. Those teams were probably his worst teams until the Wizards, but he still had great players with him like I stated. So Jordan simply didn't carry his team. In the next 3 seasons the Bulls lost to the Pistons all 3 times. And I'll admit the Pistons were a great team and Jordan didn't have as much help because Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant were young. In 90-91 Jordan finally got his first title, but note he couldn't get that title without Pippen coming into his own, Grant coming into his own, Phil Jackson, and really good role players. That was the way it worked for every year Jordan won a championship. Let's see how the people above him fair. Kobe always had good players, Hakeem led sub par team to championships, so he beats Jordan in this area. Oscar had a really bad team for his first ten years until he got on the Bucks. Kareem didn't have a great team every year, but he had one for a lot of them. Larry Bird always had a great team and so did Magic. LeBron for a lot of years had a trash team and he brought one of those teams to the NBA FINALS. Jordan has never done that.

2. Jordan Was Never the Underdog
Jordan never went into a championship series as the Underdog. Everybody and I mean everybody rooted for his team. Jordan never exceeded expectations. His team was predicted to win every time. Jordan was never mentally challenged and that makes some of his achievements not as spectacular. The only times he overcame something was when he lost to the Pistons and Celtics. The only reason he overcame the Pistons was because the Pistons were getting older and he never overcame the Larry Bird Celtics. He faced good teams in the Finals, but he was never projected to lose. Kobe was the underdog in a few of his series. Hakeem was the underdog a lot. Oscar was always the underdog until he got to the Bucks. Kareem was never the underdog. Magic and Larry were so evenly matched, so they went back and forth. LeBron has always been the underdog besides his time with the Heat, but even in 2013 they weren't projected to win the title.

3. Jordan had his Share of Controversial Calls
Jordan push off. Everybody glorifies Jordan to a point of where he never did anything wrong. They ignore his push off. They say the Nick Anderson strip was just because Jordan was rusty not Jordan just messing up, but yet they praise him for scoring 55 on his 2nd game back. You can't have it both ways. Fans do that throughout his career.

4. Longevity and Personal Life
Jordan didn't have good longevity because he quit twice and he played 15 seasons. My question is does a GOAT of a sport quit in the prime of their career? Jordan literally quit playing in the NBA. I think that takes him out of the GOAT spot. If Jordan maybe got injured or had a life threatening disease I would put him top 5 guaranteed, but he didn't, he literally quit. Then for his gambling issue, usually I don't dwell on stuff like this, but Jordan literally had everything and he decided to gamble. That is all I am going to say because usually I don't dwell on players personal and social life.

That is pretty much it. Jordan from a talent standpoint is amazing and he is definitely top 10. Everything else kinda makes me think he is overrated and hyped up for something he isn't. Well that wraps it up. I want to hear what you think. A update post will be coming soon.

I respect your opinion, you should be more vocal on topics like this... passionate takes something we need now more than ever. - visitor

Kinda wrong on the "Jordan was never an underdog" part. When he was younger, he was short and nobody thought he would even make it to the team. - DarkBoi-X

That was really in high school and college. I am talking about in the NBA only. - 2storm

Oh ok. - DarkBoi-X

Jordan is top 5 but his brand makes him so popular. - TheFriendlyMex

Yeah I moved him to number 4, but I still think he is severely overrated. - 2storm
