Album Review #4: Korn - Korn

Oh yes, I'm finally getting around to review something else that's good. I really need this after witnessing the terror that is Significant Other. Anyway, this is one of my favourite albums of all time. The raw production and heaviness just makes it an adventure for me! It's also one of the most important albums in music history. With that being being said, let's just get straight into it
Blind:
This album definitely starts off strong, with a catchy but aggressive song. I think this is the first nu metal song and I must admit it's a great way start off an infamous genre. It's one of the few songs that everyone knows and I'm glad it is. Overall a fantastic opener
10/10
Ball Tongue:
I can't understand the lyrics but that's what makes it so fun to listen to! also that riff is just superb, honestly one of the best nu metal songs and that's saying something because I'm not a big fan of nu metal.
10/10
Need To:
Yep, it's one of those songs that has an evil opener. I admit the first 3 chords are rather ominous but then it's so fast that it just leaves you speechless. Also, I like how this song get slower as time goes on. Kind of reminds me of progressive metal
10/10
Clown:
Although I don't think it has anything to do with a clown, it's still catchy nevertheless. Also that riff at the beginning is probably one of the best riffs I've ever heard. I'm serious, if there is a riff better than that, It would the one from Hallowed By Thy Name - Iron Maiden
10/10
Divine:
This one is definitely creative with Jonathans extremely fast vocals along with the memorable riff. I also like how Jonathans vocals go from extremely fast to extremely slow. I think that's what metal is all about, not rappers like Fred Durst rapping about how broke they are *shudders*
10/10
F****
Yeah I censored the title so admin won't suspend me, anyway, this one is so dark yet so memorable at the same time. I think it's about Jonathan being bullied at school. I think he wore eyeliner (I might have to do my research later) also I love how he just screams "I'M NOT A F****!" Near the end of the song
10/10
Shoots and Ladders:
Probably my favourite off the album (don't judge me) it shows how nursery rhymes can secretly have a dark story behind them. I think Ring-a-round-a-rosie (or whatever it's called) was about Black Plague which is sorta interesting in my opinion. This song does have a great message along with a great riff
10/10
Predictable:
Much weaker than the previous track, Jonathans groaning kind of annoys me along with that riff that has been done a million times. Also it isn't that memorable, it's not terrible, it's just not that good.
5/10
Fake:
This one isn't very good either and is also my least favourite off the album. It doesn't make sense at all! Jonathan groaning the word "fake" is pretty repetitive and repeats throughout the song. Which is so annoying considering the fact that korn are known for making UNFORGETTABLE songs.
4/10
Lies:
Ahhh...now that's more like it. The riff at the beginning is just perfect and kind of soothing, unlike the other 2 tracks, Jonathan's groaning is actually good. Also that growl is amazing!
10/10
Helmet In The Bush:
This one is well known among the metal community and I'm glad it is, it isn't really metal but it still remains an unforgettable classic. To be honest we need more song like this nowadays instead of modern pop
10/10
Daddy:
This song is depressing and dark, it's about a neighbour molesting Jonathan when he was a kid and how his parents would not believe. Trust me, if I was Jonathans mother I would call the cops on that dude to get him arrested. It doesn't help that he literally breaks down crying In the middle of the song, the silence is also creepy. Nevertheless, it's still a good song
10/10
Michael and Geri (Hidden Track):
Hilarious. That's all I need to say
10/10
Reception:
Overall it's a great experience and definitely one of my favourite albums of all time, it's also one of the most important albums in all of metal music as it created an entire subgenre. That being said, it's also a traumatising experience.
10/10
Anyway...this is the koopa singing out
(Jesus, that was a lot to type)
