Best Nu-Metal Guitarists

The Top Ten

Brian 'Head' Welch - Korn, Brian 'Head' Welch

He is such an inspiration to me. I too was addicted to meth along with other things. To see someone else experience true deliverance is such a blessing. I love his music. I love to hear someone not be ashamed of where they come from and where it has brought them. Plus he has the opportunity that I only wish that I had and that's to scream (literally) to the world of how Jesus saves and is still in the miracle business! Danielle Bennett

All respect to Korn, but they aren't the same without Head. Brian's new stuff with BHW and Love and Death is amazing. He creates some of the best chunkiest, thickest, grooviest riffs and can sing(Obeeyy) and has a great stage show. He gave up a lot for the Lord(20m+ a year), kicked some hard habits and has scouted out some great talent to help him keep the momentum going. I can't for their LP.

Brian 'Head' Welch has saved a lot of people who were struggling with similar incidents that he was going through. He is an inspiration to us all. A Great Musician, Great Personality, A Great Father. Was definitely impressed with his album 'Save Me From Myself'. Loved the Chemicals EP & can't wait for the upcoming album under Love & Death! Much Love & Respect

Listen to Korn from before 2006 and listen to Korn's newer work... Than listen to any of Brian's work with Love & Death or his album "Save Me From Myself. " It has the edge and intensity that Korn is missing. Aside from the fact that he is role model to thousands and an extremely nice person... Hands down on talent alone Head wins!

Mick Thomson - Slipknot Mickael Gordon "Mick" Thomson is an American heavy metal musician. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, he is best known as one of two guitarists in Slipknot, in which he is designated #7.

Slipknot is not nu metal, people just assume they are because they are often grouped with nu metal bands like S.O.A.D., KoRn, and Linkin Park because they are all popular. Slipknot is a blend of many genres, including nu metal, but is not nu metal, nu metal also rarely uses guitar solos, unlike Slipknot. Mick Thompson is a great guitarist though.

My inspiration, my favorite guitarist. He is so good probably the best metal guitarist alive. Let's not forget his famous riffs and technique. And his Low B tuning. Slipknot has found one talented musician. I wonder how he feels about being #1.

He deserves number 1 not just for his techniques, which by the way are brilliant, and slipknot are still one of my favorite bands thanks to mick thompson but his stafe presence is awesome

Of course he is. One of the fastest guitarists and the best at pinch harmonics

Wes Borland - Limp Bizkit

Wes is not only brilliant in doing/playing what he's known for, he's also brilliant in anything else I've heard from him until today. He definitely deserves the first place in this list for sure - I wish he'd record a solo album only playing guitar so that I could listen to it 24/7 (just watch some videos on YouTube from some of Limp Bizkits live concerts such as Rock Am Ring 2013 and try to concentrate exclusively on Wes' guitar and you'll know what I mean)

I don't understand people saying LB is a wannabe band or stuff like this.. I mean, come on, everybody's got an other taste of music. I understand people saying they don't like their lyrics etc but lyrics aren't the only thing about music! And I think their music is great! First of all it's different than the most other bands or artists (if you hear a song of Limp bizkit that you've never heard before you already know just after a few seconds that it must be limp bizkit), very interesting, rhythmic, entertaining and ...more

Seriously? Korn's guitarist over Wes? Super creative riffs, good technical ability. Not only that, but as stated, his riffs are some of the most creative I've heard, and he's able to play different types of music. Best nu-metal guitarist by far

Such a creative guitar player, with a amazing look! More talented than most in this genre. Only Wes can go from a 4-string, 7-string and a 5 String and still write brilliant hooks while keeping heavy.

The most creative guitarist ever
Compared to the other guitarists who just keep creating the guitar part with the same guitar skill
I like wes borland more since his creativity

Daron Malakian - System of a Down

Daron is definitely one of the best guitarists I ever heard. He has an incredible creativity, his riffs are really powerful and he is a giant inspiration for me and a lot of people.

He is just the best. His solos and riffs are really creative, sure he is the best guitarrist of nu metal.

Not only is he a good guitarist but also a good singer too

Good riffs and their live performance is awesome...

James 'Munky' Schaffer - Korn

Munky I think is a great inspiration for all guitarists, especially who plays 7-string guitars. He makes the act of play the guitar with all the effects it has more fun and creative, and I think that make us understand that music goes beyond the from standard, basic and goes so far away if you are creative. Many people thinks the things that Munky plays are easy, but not always is the case, or he not make a lot of solos, but play the guitar is not based only on being the master soloing, you can also make a good distortion base and be an inspiration for other guitarist for make a cool riff.

With every album KoRn churns out munky's riffs just seem I get better and better:)
Honestly adore his sound, technique and presence on stage.
Respect to him for stepping up the way that he did when Head left too, must have been really difficult due to the fact that he'd always played alongside and Head as almost s Rhythm guitarist so having to take over the whole writing process must have been a stretch. He came out better than ever though:) RESPECT

He has created some of the most memorable songs and riffs in the entire metal genre, and the willingness to evolve and experiment make him even better.

Should be top 3 at least with head his former bandmember (Korn) besides they started Numetal in the first place. Munky is the best entertainer on stage ever!

Jim Root - Slipknot James Donald "Jim" Root, also known by his number #4, is an American musician known for being the rhythm/lead guitarist for the heavy metal band Slipknot, and the former lead guitarist for alternative metal band Stone Sour.

He is in my two favorite bands of all time Slipknot and Stone Sour what more can I say he trully is a very talented and amazing guitarist and also an awesome riff master.

He is an incredible guitar player. His solos are amazing and the speed in which he plays is unvelibable, one of the best guitar players around these days in my opinion

Jim Root is best guitaristi I can't believe Jim Root is right there cause him to deserve first place

Sorry to Mick but Jim is much better.

J.R. Bareis - Love and Death

Awesome Guys (Love and Death) and I love their transparency.
It can't be easy to always be exposed to people and have them see your personal life.
I'm looking forward to meeting them one day.
Mark Rosin
Edmonton, Alberta

This guy is more than just a great guitar player. The ability to last as long as he has in a very active band and still remains to be a cool dude shows his passion for what he dose.

He plays in an insanely amazing band, is so young and is such a skilled guitarist, and yet is one of the most humble guys I've ever met! He's proof that hard work pays off!

I saw J.R. this year at Ichthus Festival and he was ' sick! I enjoyed it a lot! The talent that he has is unbelievable! God has blessed him enormously with the gift of music! Keep rocking J.R.!

Brad Delson - Linkin Park Bradford Phillip Delsonis an American musician, best known as the lead guitarist and one of the founding members of the Grammy Award winning rock band Linkin Park.

Well, you may find it weird, that I'm voting for him, but Brad Delson is one of the best guitarists I've heard. I've heard System of a Down, Slipknow, and all the others.

Just hear the ending riff of "A Line in the Sand" and you'll know why.

It's kinda sad that theydidn't use his talent in their previous albums.

Seriously? Sixthplace?! Linkin Park DEFINED nu-metal and this guy is behind it... Best nu metal guitarist ever. So what if he can't sing? His skill with the axe speaks loud and clear...

Brad delson is very nice and great guitarist than others

You Kidding? The man behind Linkin Park's guitar playing!

Dan Donegan - Disturbed Dan Donegan is an American musician and guitarist for heavy metal band Disturbed. Donegan began playing guitar as a teenager and eventually formed a band called Vandal, which was an 1980s-style hair band.

Despite being only one guitarist Dan, really hits the two guitar tones with his overdubs. And he is also the keyboardist and synthesizer player. How cool is that?

Get up come on get down with the sickneSS

He went to my high school lol

Synyster Gates - Avenged Sevenfold Brian Elwin Haner, Jr., better known by his stage name Synyster Gates or simply Syn, is an American musician, best known for being the lead guitarist and backing vocalist of the band Avenged Sevenfold.

When I think best guitarist, I think more of most talented. Viewing this list from that angle, Syn is the best guitarist on this page (even though he isn't nu metal).

No one can really beat his solo's from great songs like afterlife, nightmare bat's country and more

Syn doesn't play nu metal. Can anyone see traces of hip hop in a7x's music?

This guy is definitely the best guitarist out of this list!

The Contenders

Mike Mushok - Staind

It was a hard choice, but I have to go with Mike. Listen to his brilliant work on Staind's 'Tormented', because he doesn't really to show much of this raw energy on the other albums + you can hear him playing solos (which were absent from the band until their self-titled 2011 album).

Most creative energetic guitarists period. Unique style with virtuoso background!

He creates some pretty complex chords with his odd tunings. And is also quite the shredder!

Great guitarist but he isn't nu-metal.

Max Cavalera - Sepultura / Soulfly Massimiliano Antonio "Max" Cavalera is a Brazillian singer, guitarist, and songwriter who currently plays in heavy metal bands Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, and Killer Be Killed.

Haha he's the best because he did play Nu Metal but he can also play Thrash/Groove Metal and he is very good

Miguel Rascón - Coal Chamber

His riffs are very powerful and simple. This creates a very heavy sound but one that is distinct and perfect for the vocals of Coal Chamber.

Visceral and energetic sound like a non stop rolling steam engine!

Greg Tribbett - Mudvayne

Tom Maxwell - Nothingface
Twiggy Ramirez - Marilyn Manson

Not a nu metal guitarist.

Ben Moody - Evanescence Benjamin Robert "Ben" Moody is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and actor.

Awesome and very underrated guitarist. Listen to Fallen and lyrics, beautiful.
Evanescence forever.

Ben Moody is should be in top 10 and better than Brad Delson, sorry Linkin Park!

Ben is great guitarist. Also, Evanescence is my favourite rock band.

Ben is so skillful guitarist, he plays versatile tunes.

Tom Morello Thomas Morello is an American musician, singer-songwriter and political activist. He is best known for his tenure with the band Rage Against the Machine and then with Audioslave.

You have to be kidding me no one on this list solos and Tom is rolling-stone's 40th greatest guitarist of all time. And get avenge sevenfold off this list they're not nu metal they're metal core. A7x isn't entitled to be on every list just because they have lots of stupid fans who don't know what good music is. Word yo.

Tom Morello should be near 1, his unconventional and innovative techniques deserve better

Tony Rombola - Godsmack

Tony is one of the most underrated musicians of this generation!

Godsmack isn't nu metal

Trent Reznor - Nine Inch Nails

Trent has been around the block a few times. I wouldn't consider him best nu guitarist much less put him in best guitarist category. Not saying he is not talented but just not a guitar god.

Uh, Trent isn't a nu metal guitarist. He's an INDUSTRIAL metal guitarist. Do some research.

Trent is possibly one of the best artists ever, so creative

He doesn't play nu metal at all.

Stephen Carpenter - Deftones

Ambient and dark but brutally heavy and creative as well. Great guitar tone as well.

Creator of the best nu metal riff (my own summer) in my opinion

What? Number 17? What?!

Marcos Curiel - P.O.D.

Only one guitarist and still give a complete sound to the band, curiel rocks!

Mike Shinoda Michael Kenji "Mike" Shinoda (born 11 February 1977) is an American musician, rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, graphic designer, manager and film composer. He co-founded Linkin Park in 1996 and is the band's rhythm guitarist, primary songwriter, keyboardist, producer, and co-lead vocalist. more.
John 5

No one on this list even comes close to this guy, ONLY buckethead, listen to his solo records and u will understand.

Paul Gray - Slipknot Paul Dedrick Gray, also known as The Pig or by his number #2, was an American musician, best known as the bassist and one of the founding members of the Grammy Award-winning metal band Slipknot.

He's an amazing guy but he's not guitarist

This is a bassist lawl
