Best Progressive Metal Songs of All Time

The Contenders: Page 3

41 Third Eye - Tool
42 Goddess Bound - Protest the Hero

I'm so glad this song is on here, every one of their songs are great, but what a excellent choice. That instrumental portion at the end of this song was just perfect!

Excellent concept lyrics matched with incredible otherworldy vocals and instrumental work make it that worth while to listen to over and over again. This is a hard, layered, and complex song that I'm sure anyone can enjoy!

Chaos controlled! Rody's vocals are so unpredictable and manage to fit in every nook and cranny in this song. Instrumental work finds ways around itself to never be "noodling" and is finely structured.

Protest The Hero and Tool deserve to share the entire top ten.

43 Panic Attack - Dream Theater

4 DT songs in the top 5? That's awesome but Lateralus should be Number One and this should be at least in the top 10. And some Opeth!

44 April - Tesseract
45 The Great Escape - Seventh Wonder

This is by far one of the most epic songs in the Prog genre. I highly recommend it. Great musicianship, technicality, good vibe, solid story, this masterpiece took me a couple of listens to start to comprehend that I was in front of an epic.

46 When All is Lost - Symphony X

The best progressive metal balad! with one of best solos of Romeo!

48 Paradise Lost - Symphony X

Simply, beautiful. No36? That is far too underrated!

49 Awakenings - Symphony X
50 Way Out of Here - Porcupine Tree
51 Dance of Eternity - Dream Theater

This song has an absolutely insane Honkytonk keyboard by Ruddess, followed by an equally as insane guitar solo from Petrucci, followed by a breathtaking bass solo from Myung. By far, one of the most complex and technical songs out there, as it combines so many different elements and styles into a single 6:14 song.

52 Visions - Haken Visions - Haken

This should be in the top 10 at least this is the best song this decade easily

53 Pareidolia - Haken

One of the more technical prog songs recorded recently, it nevertheless also has great songwriting. The major highlight would be the banjo solo at around 3:40 in. - petrucci75hammet

54 Hallowed Be Thy Name - Iron Maiden V 1 Comment
55 Empire of the Clouds - Iron Maiden V 1 Comment
56 Silent Lucidity - Queensryche

At 45? The raters are deaf I guess. This song should have been at top 5.

57 On the Backs of Angel - Dream Theater

This is a real masterpiece. I mean from the arpeggios at the beginning, James La Bries voice until the fantastic piano and guitar solo almost everything is perfect

58 Gutter Ballet - Savatage

One of the must underrated bands of all time. I'm just glad one of their songs made it on here. Jon Oliva is in my top 5 songwriters, if not top 2. The vision he has for his music is beautiful

This song shows how deep the band is. After listening to it many times in different moods it gradually make it way and you probably repeat "You got to be so high! "
